We were at the table, the humans and jacob, damion, gabriel, kane and myself.
Maya looked betrayed. Everytimes she glanced up from her plate, a look of sadness crossed her features as she saw my pointed ears. I gracefull shoved mashed potatos into my mouth, licking my lips with a soft sigh.
"I am sorry." I told her for the 100th time. Gabriel resting his hand on my knee, the sparks that flowed from his hand helping encourage me. Maya chewed on her salmon, setting the fork down.
"I know you are. That does not change anything. You are a fae." She said in monotone. My frown deepened.
"I was a human 24 hours ago. I did not help with the plague." I attempted to reason with her, but once again she shook her head.
"I do not care. Once I leave tomorrow, I will be glad to never see your face," venom laced her voice as she knawed on more of her fish. That stung.
Soft flickers of flame danced inside me. The flame of rage and anger. I did nothing to her. Just because I am a fae now does not mean I have changed.
My hands were tight fists under the table, my knee bobbing up and down. My teeth bit into my lip. Maya suddenly glared up at me.
"You don't have the right to be angry," she muttered. Everyone stared at her, mouth open and eyes wide. I just narrowed mine, my mouth set in a line.
"And why is that?" I asked. Fusteratingly calm and collected, calm before the storm... so many choices so little time. Calm before the storm it is. My face relaxed, my head leaning on my hand. She pursed her lips.
"Because you are one of them," her eyes glanced over my mate, then damion, then Jacob. I seethed silently. Insulting me was one thing, but insulting my mate was completely different.
"At least I am not a full time b!tch," my voice was eerily calm. I could feel her nervousness building up, a dark feeling stiring inside me. Bloodlust. She gulped.
"I am not either. I am only to you faeries," she spat the word like it was a sour taste in her mouth.
"I dont hide my true feelings either. You were so nice when I was human, who knew you could drive a knife into my back," i tapped my sharp nails on the table.
"I will kill you all," maya whispered in promise. A cruel smile took my lips.
"You cant kill something that is not weak than yourself," I responded. She stood up quickly, stomping out of the dining hall.
"I am glad I will be gone tonight," she muttered as she slammed the doors. The other humans quickly scrambled after her. I sighed, shaking my head.
"And i thought she was a good person," kane mumbled. I leaned into gabriel, his shoulder supporting my head. His hanf tightened on my knee, comfort sent to my soul.
"Me too," I said softly. Gabriel sighed, standing me up and picking my upin his arms. I squeaked a little in surprised, but hugged myself to his neck. He carried me to my room, kissing my forehead as he set me on the bed.
"You okay?" He asked, sitting by my feet, staring down at me. I sighed, nodded lazily.
"Yeah. It is kind of unfortunate, but I had high expections, they only brought me down," I explained. He nodded, tracing a circle on my calf with his finger. Sparks raced up my leg, goosebumps following in their wake.
"We can find you some friends, if you want. We can travel the the continent, you can meet tons of faes and make some friends," he concluded. I nodded, but frowned.
"Your king, you can't leave for that long," I whispered in disappointment. He gave me a smirk.
"I am meeting with my people. Checking up on them in person," he grabbed my hand and kissed my knuckles. "I want them all to meet my queen, my high lady, my mate."
"Your queen?" I asked. He nodded, pulling me towards him and nuzzling my neck as he held me in his warm arms.
"Of course. You are my mate, therefore you are the queen," he said. Obviously. He kissed up and neck and across my jaw, a shiver running through my muscles.
"Hmm, queen yuki, I like the sound of that," I smirked. A chuckled flitted from his lips, his breath dancing across my skin. He kissed the corners of my mouth, my lips brushing his.
"I like it too," he whispered. Then he deepened the kiss, both of us crashing onto the bed.
