I sat on the fence post, my leather pants protecting me from splinters. I couldn't help my sleeping yawn as I watched Gabriel train some of the warriors, and the humans that wanted to join. Apollo and Artemis were a bit in front of me, following the training as best as they could.
When I told them I would be watching their father today, they insisted they accompany me and participate in the training. Their attempts at pushups were comical, but I had to hold back my giggles and encourage them. They were young and seemed to be having even if it was difficult for them.
"Punch Punch!" Artemis squealed, her small fists clumsy and slow. Apollo was quieter, his strikes surprising good for how old he was. Autumn had told me he would be physically stronger. Luckily, Artemis hadn't attempted any magic yet, but even I could feel the buzz of magical energy radiating from her. Apollo had magic too, but it wasn't as strong as his sisters.
"Are you guys getting tired yet?" I asked them, pushing off the post, my feet landing in the grass. they shook their head, turning to face me and offering their biggest smiles.
"Nope, Nope! We are having fun!" Artemis squeaked, running in a circle around me. I had no idea how she was so hyper right now.
"Momma, why don't you show us your moves?" Apollo suggested, his round eyes big as he stared up at me. I couldn't help but say yes when he gave me those puppy dog eyes. I sighed, nodding my head and sliding into my best fighting crouch.
"Hand to hand isn't my strong suit..." I told them, biting the inside of my cheek to help me concentrate. My mismatched eyes landed on my mate, watching how he demonstrated, then copying him. My fists were not quite as fast, nor were they perfect, but they were good enough to pass as a punch. I knew it would hurt if I smashed someone's nose in.
"A kick, do a kick!" Apollo put in. I sighed, throwing three punches, then twisting my body and shooting my leg out. It was faster than my arms, surprisingly, and perfectly executed. I was better with my legs.
"How was that, little one?" I asked him, lifting my eyebrows. He nodded before taking up the crouched position I had been it, attempting to replicate my kick. It was quite impressive, but I had to quickly grab his arms before he fell over. "Nice job, but maybe wait until you have better balance," I suggested with an encouraging smile. He nodded up at me.
"Mommy, you should show us how to do pushups!" Artemis suggested. I gave her a look. By the mischief in her eyes, I could tell she just wanted me to work out.
"Ah, no thanks, oh is that Mary over there?" I asked, turning my head. The female was walking towards us from the castle, a tray of fruits in her arms. She lifted her hand in a wave and I replicated the gesture.
"Hello, Yuki! And the two little ones~" She added. "I have lunch for you guys since you are hanging out here. There is some for Gabriel too, if he stops by," she said, her eyes lifting to peer at my mate training the others.
"Yeah, maybe he can send them on laps and more pushups so he can eat with us," I suggested, all of us giggling. Those that joined the training class wouldn't be too happy about that. Mary laid out a blanket, setting the different food onto it. My two children settled onto is, setting their shoes on the grass.
"Thank you Mary!" Artemis said in excitement, grabbing a small triangle sandwich easily, shoving it between her lips. Apollo gave a little smile and shy nod, grabbing a watermelon slice and taking a small bite.
"You're welcome, little ones," she replied, waving once more as she turned on her heel. Her dress swished around her as she headed towards the castle one again, the door closing behind her.
"Alright, you two eat, I will attempt to convince your father to join us," I told them, ruffling both of their hair before facing the training field.
My steps were fluent and graceful, the grass below my boots barely disturbed by my walking. I couldn't help my little smirk as I walked through the warriors, my hands behind my back.
I stopped beside Gabriel, placing my hands on his shoulder and standing up on my tiptoes so I could whisper in his ear.
"Wanna eat lunch with us? You can make them run laps or do push ups or something~" I suggested. He returned the smirk, planting a kiss on my cheek.
"Sounds likes a good idea," he hummed in reply, snaking his hand around my waste and pulling me flush against him. "Time to run laps, after twenty laps, do one hundred sit ups or pushups!" He called. The warriors groaned, but accepted as they started running.
"Shall we?" I giggled, intertwining my fingers with his. He nodded, stealing a chaste kiss from my lips.
"Yes, lets go have some lunch." He agreed.
And the book is OVER. For real this time, lol. There is an Epilogue soon to come and maybe a book two, depending on how I feel, lol. Thank you for reading!
