We had finally made it to the town, my butt sore from sitting on my horses back. It turned out Damion had retrieved Chestnut. The mare was happy to allow me to ride her again.
I gently pat her head, grabbing the hold on the saddle to help me slid off of her back. I ignored the offered hand of one of the fae warriors. They didnt protest.
I had a feeling they would soon. The fact that I could still move well still allowed them to ignore my independence. When I could no longer see my toes, they wouldn't allow me to leave their sight.
I sighed just thinking about it, shaking my head. Autumn landed gracefully onto my shoulder, her her hand over her eyes to block the sun.
"A cute little village, eh?" She said, peering around. I nodded. The village consisted of a few houses and the common market road with multiple stalls and shops set up. I looked to Gabriel.
"Remember my honey buns!" I told him. The sun court king laughed softly, giving my a thumbs up.
"Of course." He smiled, pulling a few things off of Charlie that he would need for bartering. I smiled. They were my most favorite treat from the human world.
The human world.
It had only been a few month since I had been so rudely kissed by Damion and I was already seperating myself from my past life. It wasn't like I had anything else to love that had to do with human.
Except for honey buns of course.
For some reason, I do not regret becoming a Faery. I found so many friends because of it. Autumn, Mary, Jacob, Damion, I guess, and Gabriel.
Gabriel.
He said the plague had not been his idea. He just had to go along with it because of a majority vote. I believe him.
He says he wishes he could meet my family. Wishes he could have known me when I was younger and a child. For some reason, I wish he could have too.
Maybe it was the mate thing. A concept I still didn't understand. I was drawn to him in every way and I loved him. Loved him a lot.
I sighed softly, stretching my arms forward. All of this life contemplation was distracting me from my main goal. Honey Buns!
I could smell it as he walked through the town. The tantilizing scent of crisp honey over a flakey bun. I licked my lips.
Then I saw them. The stall was bright and colorful with red and yellow banners. I couldn't help my excited smile as I scurried over to the stall, peering down at the asortment of honey covered foods.
The apple was tempting. It would be similar to my icing and apple experiment, maybe even better. I looked to my husband.
"Gabriel," I drawled, not missing the laughter from the women running the stall. The sun court king padded over, kissing my cheek as he held out a few golden coins.
"A basket of my lady's choosing," Gabriel recited. He had said it many times at the other villages we had visited. I giggled in excitment.
"Hmm, can I have 2 of those," I said, my giddiness growing as I pointed to the hiney flaked treats. "Hmm, 5, no 4, of the regulars. One of the apple honeys. 10 cookies, to share with the group of course," I added. The woman laughed again, dutifully backing up one of the little baskets with what I had said.
"Blame the pregnancy, sweetheart," the women smiled, her accent thick. It was a bit hard to understand.
"Always. When this baby is born, I will have to eat better though, sigh~" I complained. She laughed again, shaking her head.
"You sure are a lively young lady. How old are you?" She asked. I flushed.
"Seventeen..." I trailed off.
"And thats your first?" She teased. Most had children in their fourteens because that was when women started their period. I was lucky my mother didn't give into the bribes offered to wed me.
"Yes," I replied delicately taking the basket from her. I snagged out one of the classic honey buns, shoving it into my mouth. I was very temoted to moan at the delicious flavors melting on my tongue. "Mm~"
"Have you been here long?" She asked, glancing down the streets. The street that was filled onlynwith my people. The paired up humans of the sun court had returned to their villages, already starting up their lives again.
This woman, I had seen her before, but only once in passing. I wasn't sure if she remembered who I was, but I knew her pair would. He was one of the humans that stayed close to me the first day they were at the castle. With Maya. I shoved away the bitter memory of the short friendship I had with that woman.
"No."
"Oh, well, there is another couple who lives here. Rare to hear, eh? Most villages you come by with be empty. Insufrable Faeries, causing death on all the humans," she muttered unhappily.
I understood their feelings. If I hadn't met all those I know in the sun court, my feelings would be much the same. My family was dead, and even if I wanted to seek revenge for their passing, now was not the time.
"Oh, you are good though. Human once, I can tell by the way you walk. Look at the other Faeries you brought along. See how they act confined even though the village road is pretty wide for a village?" The woman asked. So she knew of my race, yet she seemed comfortable around me. Perhaps it was because of the fact that I was pregnant.
"Hmm, yeah," I mumbled in reply, staring at my companions through calculating multicolored eyes. Gabriel had joined the miniature guard again, in search for an inn this time. Not that they would find one with people running it.
"You act comfortable in this space. S'if you lived in a space like this all your life," she explained. "What's your name?"
"What's yours?" I countered. It was only polite to give your name before asking for anothers. She smirked.
"Nichol. Now you."
"Yuki." Her eyes widened slightly. Then she burst into laughter, placing her hand on my shoulder.
"Shoulda guessed with the way the stag king was acting around you. Did he turn you into what you are?" Nichol asked. I pursed my lips, shaking my head.
"That bastard over there did," I stated, pointing out my husbands advisor amung the guards. "The tall one. I was heading to anither village and all of a sudden he appears. He went on and on about the plague and my 'fearlessness' then he kissed me and knocked me out!" I complained. I had told Autumn the story before, the little pixie that hid my shirt vibrated with laughter.
"Well, chose an inn then, any inn. Sleep for the night, have a feeling you won't stay long. Then be on your way. If you want," she said, leaning towards me.
"If I want?" I questioned, my curiousity rising.
"You can come back here all by yourself, maybe with you babe, and enjoy my honey buns again. I ought to have a child by then too. My husbands been pestering me about a family for a month!" She complained. I smiled at her kindness. A kindness rare to find.
"I won't forget you, Nichol."
