Another two years goes by and everything's doing just fine. Except for the fact that DJ skipped the terrible twos and went straight to the horrifying Fours.
"DJ! Get back here!" "You can't catch me!" I caught him and lifted him up but he began to scream and kick around. "Dallas Johnny you Stop this right now!" "I don't want up!" "I don't care." "No mommy!" "Dallas Johnny Stop misbehaving!" "That's not my name Mommy!" I growled as I walked up to sodapop who was helping me shop. "Sodapop Curtis take your newphew right now before I pull my hair out." Soda smiled, "Aweee are you giving mommy a hard time little monster?" "Uncle pop!" I handed Sodapop, DJ and he instantly calmed down. "Seriously!? You behave for uncle pop and not for your mother?!" I sighed in defeat and placed my face in my hands. "Little monster why don't you pick out a toy, I'll buy you one." I looked through my fingers and saw DJ wiggling in sodas grip with joy, then he let him down and we both watched as he looked at the toys that were nesr him. "Sodapop! He's misbehaving!" I slapped him in the shoulder and he grabbed it. "Look. I know he's giving you a hard time kourtney but he's Four." "So what? You can't just reward him with a toy and act like nothing happened." Sodapop rubbed my shoulders as I sighed. "Relax kourtney. Just talk to him, don't yell at him." I sighed again. "Yeah...your right." "Always am." With that I smiled and hugged Soda. "Uncle pop, can I have this one?!" DJ ran up to us so we pulled Away, he was holding up a limited addition racecar toy that matched the one Steve got him for his birthday two years ago.
"Ask your mother DJ." DJ turned to me and smiled, "Can I have it Mommy pleaseeeeeee!" His brown eyes were big and pleading, his voice was high and child like and his baby teeth just looked so cute with the smile he gave. "Okay fine but let uncle pop buy it so we can have a talk." "Thank you mommy!" I bent down and picked up DJ while handing Sodapop the car. "Say thank you uncle pop, he's buying it." "Thank you uncle pop." "Anything for my little monster." Soda gave me a smile and I mouthed the words, "Thank you Sodapop." He just nodded and headed on his way to buy the car.
I looked at DJ who was looking at me. "I'm sorry mommy for being bad." He placed his tiny hands on my cheeks, "Then why are you being bad. Your never like this DJ. What's going on?" He looked down and moved his hands, "I miss uncle pony." I took a deep breath and hugged my son. "Oh baby. You know uncle pony's got school." "But I miss him!" He began to cry and I held him closer.
Pony's been on a school trip for the past week. He's due back home tomorrow, but it's the fact that he's been gone for a while. "DJ... Pony comes home tomorrow, if you straighten up you'll be the first person who will see him tomorrow, okay?" He looked up and wiped his tears. "Promise mommy?" I kissed his cheek, "I promise baby." He sniffled and nodded his head.
"Daddy!" DJ cheered as we came home. "Hey there little stinker, daddy missed you!" Darry bent down and picked up DJ, "I missed you to daddy!" I smiled, Darry's eyes met with mine and his smile grew. "You know daddy missed mommy to." Darry walked to me, "Well, mommy missed you to." We kissed. "Eww! Mommy, daddy that's gross." We pulled away and rose an eyebrow, then we attacked DJ with kisses and he giggled. "Eww! Mommy, daddy stop!" We all laughed but stopped when the land line rang. "I'll get it." I said and Darry kissed me on the forehead before I was on my way.
"Hello, kourtney Curtis speaking." "Hello Mrs. Curtis, are you the legal guardian of Ponyboy Curtis." "Yes I am one of them, why... is something wrong?" "Everything's fine ma'am but Ponyboy signed up for the extended class, I was calling to confirm that your okay with him staying for the next few days." I Swallowed hard and looked down at my feet. If pony's not coming back tomorrow... DJ would be heartbroken, and if I said no to Ponyboy he'd be devestated. "Mrs. Curtis?" I cleared my throat and blinked back the tears. "Yeah. Of course Ponyboy can stay there." "Thanks Mrs. Curtis." I hung up the phone and sighed. "Fuck!" I almost yelled and ran my fingers through my hair. "What's going on?" I turned and saw Sodapop standing there, I sighed and leaned against the counter. "Ponyboy isn't coming home tomorrow." "What?! Why not?" "Cause he signed up for a class or something I don't know." I walked out of the kitchen and saw Darrel holding DJ as they laughed together.
