Yn's POV
"M.E. was able to pull a couple usable prints off our victim's hand. ID came back as Victoria Wasson, 26. She was in the system for simple possession" Erin said. "She used to be a dancer at the strip club Deluxe" Jay said. "It's up on Kingsbury. Raided it a few times when I was in VICE. It's an Outfit joint, totally protected" Antonio said. "So, Victoria saw something she wasn't supposed to, and the Outfit killed her for it" Adam said. "Give the way the body was drilled full of holes so it would sink, that's a strong possibility" Jay said.
"Hey, this Victoria could have crossed paths with all kinds, dealers, stalkers, jealous exes. Let's put the pieces together, start building a timeline" Voight said. "Closest next of kin is Victoria's little sister. She's a sophomore at CCU" I say. "She shouldn't have to see her sister's body like this, so me and Jay will do the notification" Erin said. "I'll hit the strip club with Antonio and Yn" Adam said. "Yeah, right after you hit the ATM" Jay said. "Al, you go with" Voight said.
At the strip club, one girl stepped up to talk to us. She said that her and Victoria worked together on Tuesdays, but they never really talked. Then she told us what locker belonged to Victoria. Inside, we found about a dozen fake ID's. Back at the district, Adam and I did a little bit of digging and found some stuff.
"Hey, so I just spoke to Financial Crimes about the IDs we found in Victoria's locker. Apparently, they've been looking for the pretty face behind these check-kiting schemes for months now. They just didn't know her real name. As Jen Turner, she bilks 35 grand from Citibank. As Beth Hampton, 44,000 at Bank of America. And as Lana Del Rio, a cool, clean 56 grand from Chase. Bottom line is, she's cashed over half a million dollars worth of counterfeit treasury checks" Adam said. "That's an old-school Outfit scam, using young, attractive women to rip off bankers with that fugazi paper instead of guns" Al said. "Yep, the girls keep 10%, kick the rest back to their handler. That's how the Outfit keeps their hands clean" Antonio said.
After Voight got a tip, he had Jay, Antonio, Adam, and I check it out. Jay and Adam headed into the house while Antonio and I stayed downstairs. After a few minutes, two bodies came flying off of the second story balcony. One was the man we were after, and the other was Adam. Antonio kept his gun pointed at our target while I holstered mine and bent down to check on Adam.
"Don't move" I say and press my hand against his chest to keep him from getting up. I first started checking his body for any cuts. But besides the one on his face, there were none. Next, I checked to make sure he didn't break anything. I ran my hands up and down his arms and then legs pressing on certain points. Nothing felt broken. Finally, I had to make sure his head was okay.
"Adam" I say and hover over him. "How many fingers am I holding up?" "Two" he replied which was the correct answer. "Alright. And what color are my eyes?" "(Insert Color). Their the most beautiful eyes I've ever seen." "He seems okay" I say and stand up before helping Adam get to his feet. "Someone is going to have to keep watch on him though for at least 24 hours." "Not it" Jay and Antonio said at the same time. I laughed and shoved them both. "I was going to take the job anyways you jerks." "How'd you know to do all of that" Adam asked and dusted the grass off of his clothes.
"With people getting hurt all the time, Voight figured that one of us should be certified to help out just in case someone was seriously injured on the job" Jay said. "When Yn first came to the unit, Voight made her take a year and a half of EMT training." "What was with the whole finger and eye thing" Adam asked me. "Well, when people fall, a lot of the time they hit their head. So, you have to make sure that they can see okay, which was why I asked you how many fingers I was holding up. You also have to make sure that the injured person's memory is intact. You've told me many times that you loved my eyes, so I brought them up to see if you could remember something" I say. We then got back into the car and headed back to the district.
"Charlie Koslow, Polish kid, grew up on Taylor Street. He was an up-and-coming enforcer for the Outfit. Then he shattered some guy's jaw over a parking spot, and the judge gave him five years" Jay said. "Six months into his sentence, he pissed off some GDs, who dropped a 45-pound plate on his head, putting him in a coma for two months. His prison psych profile says after that, he never fully recovered mentally" Antonio said. "Who gave us Koslow" Erin asked. "A concerned citizen" Voight replied. "I went back to Deluxe and flashed Koslow's picture. Now, Victoria's dancer friend Sage said that she saw Koslow arguing with Victoria the night she disappeared" Al said.
After interviewing Charlie, he confessed to drilling the holes in Victoria's body. I found that kind of weird because before his lawyer showed up, he told us he didn't do it. "What do you mean you got a confession? Half an hour ago, he was saying he didn't do it" Erin said. "Changed his mind" Voight said. "Based on what? A public defender could get him off on what we have right now." "Guess we're lucky he came clean." "Did he come clean, or did his mobbed-up lawyer get him to take one for the team" Erin asked. "I'll tell you what, you want to volunteer for the Innocence Project? I'll get you that number. Right now, we got a case to close. Roll with crime lab to that address" Voight said and handed her a piece of paper.
About an hour later, more evidence came into play. "Final autopsy results came in for Victoria Wasson. Turns out at the time of her death, she was 16 weeks pregnant" I say. "And Victoria's little sister Lauren was with Charlie Koslow, who she was banging. The night that he supposedly killed Victoria. Two of Lauren's dorm mates will confirm that they saw him there" Erin said. "All right, get Koslow back up here, and tell Platt we haven't officially charged him yet. Still an open investigation" Voight said. We went at Charlie again, and this time he gave us a little bit of information.
"Carlo Tafani. He's a boss for the Outfit's Bridgeport crew. Tied to money laundering, racketeering, and suspected in the disappearance of several witnesses in the family secrets case" Jay said. "Financial Crimes just sent over a report detailing recent transactions by Tafani's front company, Vesta Inc. Now, one of the names that showed up on the report is none other than Miss Lana Del Rio" Mouse said. "Well, that's one of those aliases that Victoria used" Adam said. "Exactly. Now, the check scam paid out in cash, so I'm thinking, you know, hush money" Mouse said. "I'll pick him up" Voight said.
At the end of the day, the case hadn't been solved. We had no more leads, no evidence, no nothing. So the case was on hold for now. "Ready to head out" I ask Adam. "Yeah" he said and reached for his keys. I grabbed the keys before he could get to them. "There is no way you are driving after this morning's fall. I'll drive." "Alright Nurse Yn." Adam said. "Take me home."
