Yn's POV

Adam dragged me to work the next morning which made me a bit mad. I walked upstairs and saw Kevin and Kim standing with Voight. "Ln, glad to see you back" Voight said. "I'm only doing this for Platt" I say. "Alright, these are CRs filed against Platt. The top two are lawsuits she's racked up. We think she knows her assailant. A guy came in the district last week, made threats. I want to know why, and I want to know who, and fast" Voight said. "Sarge, you know we got those new cameras installed downstairs? It's a new security measure, so if the guy was a walk-in..." Voight cut Kim off. "I'll contact OEMC, get access. Meantime, every page."

We managed to get the security footage from downstairs and pulled it up. "All right, these are all Platt's shifts since the cameras went in. That's me walking in right there" Adam said. "We see that. Adam, now go faster" I say. "Wait, what's that" Kevin asked and stopped Adam from scrolling. A tall, dark skinned man was having an argument with Platt. "That's Malik. He runs the liquor store on 22nd. Let's go" Kim said.

"Y'all got body cameras on" Malik asked as we walked in. "Nope. Not us. Where were you tonight, Malik" Kevin asked. "I was here, all night. I got here at 8:00, and I haven't left." "Who's gonna back you up" I ask. "How about your Sergeant" he said. "What the hell are you trying to say" Adam asked. "You work for Sergeant Platt, right? She came in, she walked my nephew out to the car. Tonight's when we do our cash runs. We go collect from my other shops, but we've been robbed twice" Malik said.

"Okay, well, I'm confused because you were just in our district, making threats" Kim said. "We supposed to get more patrol on the block but budget cuts or whatever. Look, she came here on her own, bury the hatchet, and do the security herself" Malik said. "Wait, she came here tonight, after her shift" I ask. "That's what I'm telling you. Is there a problem?" "Did she seem out of sorts at all? Upset" Kim asked. "She always upset. Look, tonight's big complaint was, she had to go see her old man. Guess he's some type of hard-ass too." We all looked at each other before heading out to the car.

We dropped Kim off at the station because she had paper work to do. Then, I called Al and told him to meet us at Platt's dad's house. When we got there, the front door was unlocked. We pulled out our guns and made our way into the living room where there was a body on the floor. I took out my radio and held it up to my mouth. "5021 Lincoln, we got a man down with multiple gunshot wounds. Roll the crime lab and make the proper notifications" I say. "Copy that, 5021." I sighed and looked at everyone else. "No need for an ambulance."

Voight and the crime lab showed up minutes later. "There's no sign of forced entry, except for us coming through the front door. Could be he knew the guy or guys. Could be they had a nice dinner, and somebody said something wrong thing" Adam said. "He was tortured for information. He was tortured, and Platt was hit three blocks from here" Al said. "They came here looking for Platt's whereabouts. That's what you're thinking" Voight asked. "So, Trudy has dinner, she left, guy or guys enter, they rough up Mr. Platt till they get Trudy's location, but they waste him anyway?" "But why were they after Platt" I ask. "That's what we're trying to determine" Voight said.

"Robert Platt, age 72. Well, this is no longer an isolated attack against a sergeant in our district. Mr. Platt was found in his apartment. He'd been beaten, shot several times with a .357 caliber" Voight said once we got back to the district. "He's got no priors, but he was investigated by Financial Crimes and the IRS. Three buildings, his development company put up, they went bankrupt" Adam said. "He made a lot of people rich in the '80s and lost money for them ever since" Al said. "Neighbor called in shots fired at 10:04 p.m. Patrol responded by throwing the zone operator a code 19-Paul" Antonio said.

"And nobody else called in the shots" I ask. "No, so patrol didn't knock, but that gives us a timeline. Platt leaves her house, offender enters, shoots Robert. Platt buys a water bottle at CVS. 15 minutes later, she's attacked" Antonio said. "And he wasn't robbed" Kevin said. "Nothing appeared to be disturbed, except for the living room where there was an apparent struggle" Antonio said. "All right, listen. I liked Robert, but I think we're looking at the wrong Platt. I want you to cross-reference everybody he did business with against anybody Trudy arrested, beefed with, anything. She's counting on us to get this right, so is her husband. So am I" Voight said.

"Well, since you've got the case started, I'm going to head home" I say. "You don't want to see this case through" Antonio asked. "As much as I would, I'm not wanted here" I say and look at Voight. He didn't say anything and headed into his office. "Like I said, I'm not wanted here. Bye everyone." After leaving work, I headed home, but went to Molly's a few hours later.

I was sitting at a table drinking a beer when someone sat down in front of me. Voight. "I'm not looking to get yelled at again" I say. "I'm not here for that" Voight said. "I wanted to tell you why I haven't been letting you on runs. It's because you remind me so much of Justin." "Really? I find that hard to believe. Justin went to prison, and I send people to prison" I say. "Listen Yn, when you set your mind to something, you have to see it through. Justin was the same way, and look where he ended up. You're a good cop Yn, and I want you to be a good cop until you retire" Voight said.

"How can I be a good cop when you won't let me go out" I ask. "That's why I'm here. The next case we have, I'll let you come with. I've realized that it was wrong of me to hold you back. You're a great Detective Ln. And I want you to know that I'm proud to have you on my team" Voight said. "Thanks Voight. That means a lot" I say and stand up. "But I should really get going. I'll see you tomorrow."
