Yn's POV

"Adam" I say and poke my head outside. "We need you inside." That's when I noticed that he wasn't alone. "Are you Wendy" I ask and step outside. "Hi" she said. "I'm Yn." She looked a bit confused when I said my name. "I'm Adam's partner." "Adam didn't tell me he had a partner." That part got me a little bit. We had been through so much together, and he didn't mention me to her. "Good. Then he's following protocol" I say. "I will see you after work" Adam said and kissed Wendy's head.

We headed inside and climbed the stairs. "Yn, I'm telling you, she's killing me with this wedding planning, and she does not understand that making my parents eat together, it's the Ruzek nuclear option. Just China patterns and registries. This is gonna be a nightmare." "Hey, are you through" I ask. "Because when you're here, you're here. So don't pass through that gate until you are." "Okay" he said and followed me inside.

"All right, so our girl in the E.R. is Amber Morris. Amber and her three friends here are all undergrads at Central Chicago University. This is who we're looking for" Jay said. "We checked Amber's Facebook page. There's pictures of them living it up in Cabo, but not just from this trip. Amber's been down there twice in the last three months. First time, she did the run herself. This time, she recruited friends" Erin said.

"We gotta assume all these girls are mules and ingested the same type of balloons packed with coke" Jay said.
"You guys, I ran down those girls' addresses. All three live on campus. We gotta move. Let's go." Antonio said.

Adam, Al, and I stayed back to continue looking for any leads. We then got a call to pursue a stakeout on a tattoo shop. So we headed to the store to get supplies. "No, those are loaded with carbs and sugar. Stakeout 101. You gotta go all-natural, all-protein. Too much carbs leave you tired and unfocused. You don't wanna be in a carbohydrate coma" I say.

"That's what these are for" Adam said and held up some drinks. "So patrol already confirmed that the Collins brothers aren't at this tattoo parlor. Why do we got to babysit it?" "That's what they pay us for. You're 32 right" Al asked.

Adam nodded and Al reached for some adult diapers. "Wait, wait, wait. What are those for" Adam asked. "You're on a stakeout for who knows how long drinking that fluorescent poison. You're not gonna be able to hold it" I say. "You can't be serious. I'll find somewhere to take a leak" Adam said.

"You know, when I was a rookie, I was assigned to keep eyes on this B&E crew that nobody could touch. The first time I got eyes on him, I lost him. You know why? Because I had to take a piss. And I'm gone three, four minutes tops. And I say to myself, next time I got eyes on him, I'm not gonna move. I'm not going anywhere. And that's where these came in. And I nailed the crew pulling a million-dollar score. All right?" Adam grabbed his drinks and slowly backed away.

The stakeout soon began and nothing had been happening. "You know, there is no way these guys show up here with three kidnapped girls" Adam said. "Criminals get desperate, cops get overtime. Are you in a hurry to punch out" I ask. "Well, I've got this dinner tonight. My mom and my stepmom hate each other, so it's on me to make sure they both show up to the wedding and don't kill one another. Ask me if I'm excited" Adam said.

Then Adam's cell phone rang. Al grabbed it from his hands. "Hey, Al, no, that's Wendy. Come on, don't clear it. Don't clear it." Al declined the call and gave him back his phone. "Focus on the task at hand" Al said.

Later in the day, it became clear to me that Adam was getting a bit restless. "How do you lay here this long? I'm bored out of my mind" Adam said. "You train your mind, your body will follow" Al said. "Yeah, well, I'm gonna go stretch my legs, all right." Adam got up and walked a few feet away. I saw him on his phone and nudged Al. He looked at me and I nodded towards Adam.

Al made his way over to Adam and grabbed his phone. "What'd I say" he asked Adam. "Al, come on. I need to talk to her real quick" Adam said. That's when Al threw the phone over side of the building. "Al. You gotta be kidding me." "Rookie mistake. I don't wanna have to say it again. You stay focused now" Al said angrily. "What the hell is your problem" Adam asked. "Just get your ass to the edge of that roof." "Fine. But you're buying me a new phone."

A bit later, Adam got restless again. This would be the first and last time he goes out on a stakeout. "All right. Well, I think they're closed. Maybe it's time to move on to something else." He moved to get up but I grabbed his arm. "Just lay down and shut up" I say. Then Al's phone went off. "I got an alert from Jin" he said. "That's great. I'll just check my phone. Oh. That's right, it took a nosedive off the roof" Adam said.

"Get down. Get down" Al said. "He's got a medical bag. That's our play doctor. And there's Sean Collins." "Say cheese you son of a bitch" Adam said and snapped a picture of them. "This is Ln" I say into my radio. "We've got eyes on the bad guys. They have the two girls. I repeat, looks like the two girls are with them." We climbed off of the roof and edged along the building.

"Are we going in or what" Adam asked. "The team is on its way" Al said. Adam didn't listen and kept moving forward. "Ruzek, wait for backup. You have to wait for backup" I say. But he ignored me and entered the building. "Damn it" I mumble and enter in behind him. "Chicago PD! Get your hands up! Drop that knife. Get away from her" Adam said.

He handcuffed one of the men while the other took off. Unfortunately, one of the girls had already been cut open, and was bleeding badly. I put pressure on the wound to stop it from bleeding. The other girl was seizing and had foam escaping her mouth. "Help is coming" I say to the girl I was trying to save. "An ambulance is on the way." Soon the paramedics came and took the girls. We then met the rest of the unit outside.

"Hey. You know how stupid that was" Al asked Adam. "What are you talking about? If we didn't go in there, they would've killed that girl" Adam said. Al shook his head and walked away. "I thought it was a good call" I say. "And don't worry. Al is just tough on people that he doesn't know too well. He'll get used to you." I patted his shoulder and walked away.
