Rayden's POV:

I woke up smelling something very enticing. It smelled like cinnamon and vanilla. I really liked it.
I got out of my room and followed the scent, which surprisingly did not lead me to the kitchen. My wolf was howling with excitement, which only added to my curiosity. I kept following until it led me to the basement.

I stopped right in front of Sophia's cell. I heard a rhythm of thuds behind her door but I stopped myself from kicking down the door and running in. The scent was really intense here. I wonder what she's doing inside. Is she making food in there or something?

MATE!! My wolf Derrick yelled. Wait what? That's impossible. The wolves from my pack don't get mates.

She's our mate!! Get in there and claim her right now! Derrick yelled in my head. He was struggling to take control and do exactly that, but I fought against him. I turned the doorknob slowly and pushed open the door to find a huge mess.

All her drawings were violently strewn across the room. Some of them were torn to bits and the colours were lying against the wall, as if they were thrown. She sat in the middle of it all repeatedly banging her head against the table while chanting swear words over and over again. She was too busy hurting herself that she didn't notice me come in. I ran to her side and grabbed her shoulders to keep her from hitting her head again, only to see her tear stained face.

"Hey hey hey! What's wrong?!" I asked, frantically. This is the first time she's spoken since she came here and I can't even congratulate her on that because I need to be consoling her.
She didn't answer me and continued sobbing, so I pulled her into an embrace and comfortingly rubbed her back.

Just by touching her, I could feel a tingling sensation ripple through my body, but I ignored it for the moment. Her happiness is more important than our mate situation.
She continued crying for a long while and when the tears finally stopped she let out a long sigh. As much as I would've liked to stay in our embrace, I had to break out of it and clean up the room before anyone else came in. I picked up her drawings and gently placed them in front of her and grabbed the pencil crayons from the floor. I sprinted outside to grab a box of tissues and a box of Oreos that I had hidden in my room and brought them down. I set them in front of her a sat across from her.

"What happened?" I questioned softly. She shook her head and sniffled. I grabbed a few tissues from the box and handed it to her. She took it and buried her head in her hands, shaking slightly.
I got up and softly patted her hair. I didn't really know how to console her and Derrick was yelling at me in my head for being so useless. I ignored him and continued what I was doing until she wiped her face with the tissues and laid her head against the table.
I picked up my chair and placed it beside her, laying my head against the table inches away from hers so we could look each other in the eye. I swept some of her hair out of her face as we stayed in that moment, silently looking at each other.

"Are you hungry?" I whispered. She blinked once before slightly nodding her head and I lifted my head up to grab the Oreos. I opened it up and handed one to her and went back to the same position I was in before. She quietly munched on it as I took three out and shoved them all into my mouth. A small smile escaped her lips, making my wolf swell up in pride for being able to make her slightly happy again. I finished eating seven Oreos by the time she finished her one, and she shook her head when I offered her another one.

"Do you want to talk about it?" I asked her softly.

"I'm tired." She whispered. My eyes widened in shock at the fact that she spoke again. She softly smiled at my reaction, causing me to smile back wider. She closed her eyes, and I couldn't stop myself from reaching up and twirling the strand of hair that fell over her face. She didn't stop me, and I continued to softly stroke her hair. It wasn't long before her breaths evened out and soft snores escaped her lips.
