i can't talk to you.

lauren's pov

"Alan. What if they don't find her." I asked him beginning to cry.
"Lauren. They are going to. Even if they don't, she is going to come back. Have you tried calling her sister if she ever came home?" Alan suggested.
"I don't have her number. Should I try calling Lanie?" I asked him.
"It's worth a shot right?" He said. I went to my favorites and called Lanie. I waited and waited as the phone kept ringing until it stopped.
"Lanie? Lanie? Is that you?"
"Hi it's Lanie. I'm so sorry I can't get to the phone right now, but uh leave me a message and I'll get back to you as soon as possible. Bye." I heard her voicemail end.
"Lanie... please call me back. I need you to tell me you're safe. You left without warning. I just need to know that you're okay and that you're safe. I need you to know that you have people here that love you. There's so much to explain. Please call me back. I love you Lan." I said as I ended the call. I went into Alan's arms and sobbed. "I'm worried Alan. She's never done this before. She's always answered my calls before the phone could even ring. Even when she was asleep it would be at most two rings and she'd answer it." I said into his chest.
"Lo. She's going to be okay. I know her. She'll be okay. She needs time away. She needs time to herself to figure things out. She'll call. And she'll tell us that she's okay and coming back." He told me sitting me on the bed.
"Thanks Alan. I love you." I said to him getting my breathing back to it's normal pace.
"I love you too Lo." He said giving me a kiss on the cheek. I looked at my phone and lingered over Owen's contact. I pressed the call icon and put the phone to my ear.
"Lo? Are you okay?" I heard him ask.
"I'm uh I don't know. I still haven't heard back from Lanie. Have you found her yet?" I asked him hoping to hear some good news.
"Not yet. We combed through the city three times. We're not done yet though. We're gonna look again before we come back. Well let you know what happens." He said.
"Okay. Be safe. I love you O." I said to him.
"Love you too Lo. I will. Be careful okay?" He said into the phone.
"I will." I said as I ended the call and hung up the phone. I locked my phone and laid on the bed. I was ready for Lanie to come back. And I never wanted her to leave without me knowing ever again.

lanie's pov

"Hey Lanie. Do you want to come to our practice today?" Steph asked me peeking through the door as I finished my makeup and styled my hair.
"Uh sure. How long until you leave?" I asked him.
"I think we're gonna leave in like maybe 20 minutes?" He told me.
"Okay. I'll be ready in like 5 minutes. I'll meet you in the living room." I told him as he closed my door. I put some leggings on and one of Milos sweatshirts that I had kept. Even if we weren't together and he hurt me, I still missed him. I put on my white nike air max theas on and headed out to grab some breakfast.
"Morning Lanie. You feeling better?" Ayesha asked handing me a cup of tea.
"Yeah. I'm definitely feeling a lot better." I told her with a smile. For the first time in a while, I felt happy. But I didn't know if I was okay with that.
"I heard you're going to team practice with Steph?" She asked.
"Yeah. I'm gonna spend some time with him and the team today." I told her.
"That's good. I'll be home with the kids. Let me know if you want to leave early. I can go pick you up." She said fixing some breakfast for the kids.
"Thanks Yesh. I will." I said grabbing my mini backpack and slinging one of the straps over my shoulder.
"Hey Lanie, you ready?" Steph asked me as he gave Ayesha a hug and a kiss.
"Uh Yeah. I am." I said thinking of Milo.
"Good good. Alright let's go! We'll see you guys later!"
"Bye guys! Be safe!" Steph said to Ayesha as I waved and we walked out the door. I got into the passengers side as Steph got into the drivers seat. "Okay Lan. What's going on?" He asked me seriously.
"Everything's okay. Nothings wrong!" I lied with a fake smile.
"No. There's something wrong. Riley told me you were crying and I saw the article about your relationship. You can talk to me Lanie. We've known each other for so long. You can trust me." He told me.
"I know. I just don't know why he did it. That's why I left LA. I was having the time of life with him. He helped me after an incident with my ex boyfriend. He was my good luck charm. And then he was seen kissing his ex girlfriend." I explained to Steph.
"Have you tried talking to Milo? I mean. There are two sides to every story. You don't exactly know what happened." He told me.
"I don't know if I can. Ayesha told me the same thing. I just don't know if I can see him without being reminded of what happened." I let out.
"I understand. But one of these days, you're gonna ask yourself why you didn't ask sooner." He said truthfully.
"I'll call him. I think I'm ready." I said with some confidence.
"Even if things don't work out. And that's if they don't. My family will be here to help you pick up the pieces. You're not alone Lanie. We love you and you have people that support you." He told me with a smile.
"Thanks Steph." I said as I looked out the window. I never realized how much I missed the Bay Area. I never realized how much I needed this time to myself. But, I also didn't realize how much I wanted and needed to talk to Milo.

milo's pov

I was scrolling on my phone when I saw an article pop up about Lanie.

This is the first glimpse of Lanie that we've seen since she and Milo Manheim have supposedly broken up. She was seen entering the building with long time family friend, Stephen Curry, the star and premier point guard of the league. Many have speculated that she is here to support not only her family friend Stephen Curry, but also possible new beau, Jordan Bell. Adalair and Bell have been spotted in Oakland having fun together with Adalair sporting her signature smile. A smile we hadn't seen in a while. No one truly knows how long Adalair will be in the Bay Area. But as a Bay Area native, the city of Oakland is happy to have her back.

I ran to Mason and showed him the article.
"Mason, do you think they're really dating?" I asked him.
"I don't know Milo. Why don't we go find her. We know where she is right now. That'll give us the biggest lead." He suggested.
"Okay. Grab Owen. Let's go." I said grabbing my keys from the table and slipping my shoes on. We all left the hotel room and got the car from the valet and drove to Oakland. We arrived when I saw a girl of Lanie's height and figure exiting the Warriors HQ. I ran up to her and asked, "Lanie? Is that you?" I took a shot in the dark hoping it would be her and not a random stranger. When she took off her sunglasses, I knew it was her.
"Milo? What are you doing here? How the hell did you find me?" She asked me.
"Oh my god Lanie. I've been worried sick. You're in trouble. We have a lot to explain." I said trying to convince her to come back to the hotel to me.
"No Milo. There's nothing to explain. Im sorry but I need to go. I can't talk to you. You can explain yourself when I decide to come back to LA." She told me harshly.
"Lanie. I'm sorry. Okay? I'm sorry that we broke up and I'm sorry that I hurt you. But, you and everyone you love is in serious trouble. I'm not asking for us to be together even if I am holding all of my feelings back. I am asking for your help because Arthur is targeting you." I told her. At that point, she dropped her coffee and began to collapse. I picked her up as she told me,
"I'll go with you. But you need to explain everything. You need to tell me why he's doing this and how he found me." She said as she followed me to the car. She pulled her phone out and texted Steph I was assuming since she came to their practice. "Are you going to be able to bring me back to their house after this? My stuff and my car are still there." She asked me.
"Yeah. Uh. Are you going to come back down after this?" I asked her.
"If there is something going on with Arthur, I think it's best if I stay up here for a while." She told me.
"Lanie. Can you call Lauren? She and Alan have been worried sick about you. She hasn't stopped crying since she found out you left." I told her as she looked guilty.
"Yeah. I'll call her once I get to your hotel. I want it to be private." She said looking down.
"Lanie. I love you. I haven't stopped loving you." I told her. "Holiday told Mason the truth. Arthur only used her as a pawn to break us apart so he could get you back. So he could swoop in and save the day."
"Milo. I'm not going to lie. I can't. I love you and still have feelings for you. But, how can I trust you?" She asked me as Owen and Mason day awkwardly in the front seat trying to focus on the road and not on our conversation.
"I know it's going to take a while to build your trust for me again. I just need you to know that I never kissed her back. I pushed her off. I never wanted to hurt you. If that means I have to spend a lifetime fighting to get your trust then I will go down kicking and screaming. I'm never going to give up on you. You have been the best thing that's happened to me. You taught me how to love and how to be a better person. I'm not asking for you to take me back as of right now. But, one day I want to be able to call you mine again." I told her as I held her hand. She looked at me with tears in her eyes and didn't pull her hand away. She laid her head on my shoulder as we drove off. My girl was back in my arms and I wasn't going to let her go.
