lanie's pov
I ran to my room and hid in the corner. I balled up my knees and cried to myself. "Why is it always me? What am I doing wrong to hurt everyone else?" I asked myself getting up and changing into my pajamas. I crawled into bed and began to play music to help me calm down. I laid there for a while before Steph came in and asked me,
"Lanie? Are you okay?"
"Steph. I don't know. I think I should leave. I don't want to mess up the dynamic here and clearly it shows that my trouble comes with me wherever i go." I said getting up.
"Lanie. Its not your fault. You can't blame yourself for everything that happens. That's not how the world works." He said to me.
"I'm sorry Steph. I'm going to leave tomorrow. It isn't fair to you, or Ayesha, or the kids. It's just not how this should be." I told him. "I'm sorry. I just want you guys to be happy and not have to worry about my problems."
"Lanie. If that's what you would like to do, then I can't hold you hostage. But, just know that we are always here for you. You don't have to go through life alone." He said wrapping his arms around me in a hug.
"Thanks Steph. Now go shower up. I don't want to ruin Milo's sweatshirt." I told him.
"You really like him don't you." He said with a smile.
"I really do. How'd you know?" I asked him.
"Well. All of the years that I have known you. You have never been this strong about a boy. And also, you've never been so heartbroken about one too. You love him. That's how I feel about Ayesha. And I'm sure that is how he feels about you too." He told me leaving me in the room alone.
"Love is a crazy thing." I said falling onto my bed.lauren's pov
I was laying on the couch next to Alan when my phone rang and Lanie's ringtone started playing. I jumped up from the couch and ran to the kitchen island when I grabbed my phone to see Lanie's contact photo and name flashing across the screen. I quickly accepted the call and slapped my phone to my ear.
"Lanie! Is that you? Are you okay? Where are you? Have you talked to Milo? Have you seen Owen? Have you texted Mason?" I quickly rambled down my list of questions.
"Lauren. I'm fine. I'm sorry I didn't tell you I was leaving. I just needed to get out of LA. I'm sorry that i worried you. I'm okay though." She said through the phone.
"Where are you?" I asked her.
"I'm back in the Bay Area. I'm staying with Steph and Ayesha. But, me and Milo are gonna stay up here until the end of the week. Just to be safe." She told me.
"Steph and Ayesha Curry?!" I exclaimed. "How do you even know them? How did you even manage to stay at their house?"
"You know, for being one of my best friends, you really do not know a lot about me. Steph is a family friend. They're basically my cousins." She told me.
"That's crazy. And you're staying up there with Milo? Did you talk to him?" I asked her confused.
"He managed to find me when I was leaving the Warriors HQ and practice facility." She said.
"Are you guys, like, good now?" I asked her not knowing what she was going to answer with.
"Yeah were back together. He told me what happened with Holiday. I'm giving him another chance. Plus, its not like either of us can function normally and happily without each other." She said giggling into the phone.
"God, I am so happy to hear you laughing again. I can practically see your smile through the phone." I said as our call disconnected. "What the heck?" I said looking at my phone when I saw Lanie trying to FaceTime me.
"Now you can see my pearly whites." She said flashing a smile at me.
"Geez Lanie! I thought I said something wrong!" I laughed at her.
"I'm okay. But I miss your beautiful face. I'll be down soon though. I miss you Lo. I'm sorry again for leaving you like this." She apologized once again.
"Its okay Lanie. I'm just glad you're safe." I told her.
"Where's Alan?" She asked giving me a smile.
"Love! Where are you! Lan wants to talk to you!" I yelled.
"Love? Is that his pet name?" She asked me.
"Let's just say I have a lot to update you on when you get down here." I said with a slight smirk.
"Hey Lanie! How are you? You look and sound happier so that's a good sign." He told her.
"I am. Ive been a lot better since me and Milo got back together today. Just don't beat him up for me please." She said to him.
"It'll be hard but I'll try my best." He said joking around. "But, if he ever hurts you again. I will not hesitate to hurt him for you."
"Alright big guy. Well, I got to go eat dinner now. I'll call you again later Lo. I miss you." She said pouting.
"I miss you too Lan." I said blowing a kiss as she hung up the call.
"Well, that's all fixed now." Alan said smiling at me.
"We still have to help Holiday." I reminded him.
"I know. But its a start. In the words of Zed himself, 'Baby steps are still movement.'" He told me.
"You're such a dork." I said jumping onto his back.
"Lauren. Are you free on Saturday?" He asked me bringing me up to the bedroom.
"I should be. Why?" I asked him as he put me down in front of the door.
"Well, I was wondering if you would maybe want to go on a date with me?" He asked crossing his fingers.
"Of course! I would love to." I told him giving him a giant bear hug.
