what do you mean?

lanie's pov

I was walking out to my car whilst holding Milo's hand, when I saw a car speeding towards us. Immediately, a bright light flashed before my eyes and I was waking up confused in a hospital room.
"Oh my god. Lanie? Are you awake?" I heard my sister say as I opened my eyes. It was hard to adjust to the light but eventually I opened them and tried to sit up. "Don't move. Let me go get the doctor. Stay right there." She said running out of the room. I tried to move but I was just too weak and gave up. I was laying on the uncomfortable hospital bed when I saw the doctor running frantically to my room.
"Lanie Skylar Adalair?" He asked to clarify.
"Uh. That's me. Where am I?" I asked confused.
"You're in the hospital. How are you feeling?" He asked me.
"I'm okay. I feel really weak. Where's Milo?" I asked.
"Oh, the young man. Yes, he'll be here soon. Your sister went to get him. He hasn't left since you came here." The doctor informed me. A smile grew on my face as I saw Milo running into my hospital room.
"Oh my god Milo. Come here I missed you so much." I said trying my best to pull him into a hug.
"Miss me? What do you mean?" He asked.
"You're my boyfriend you goof!" I said.
"Uh. I think you've got the wrong person. I mean I found you. But, we've never talked before." He told me.
"Wha-what do you mean? The last thing I remember was that we were leaving the police department when a car came speeding at us." I said looking at the doctor for answers.
"A car? Oh sweetie no. You were shot at a hotel in Anaheim." He told me.
"No. I was hit by a car. What's happening? I'm confused." I began raising my voice. "What happened to me?"
"Lanie. You've been in a coma for the last four months." My sister said calmly to me.
"That's not possible. I graduated college early, I started my career. I was having the time of my life and getting through the troubles of my past with Milo!" I yelled hitting my bed.
"Lanie. You haven't even graduated high school. What are you talking about?" My sister asked confused.
"Are you saying, I have been in a coma and I didn't even know it? I've been thinking I was living a whole new life and the whole time it wasn't even real?" I asked the doctor. "Is that even possible?"
"I have to say it's not the first time I've seen it. But it is unusual. It's a different kind of amnesia. It can be quite confusing. I think you should get some rest. I will be back to give you some pain medicine." He said leaving the room.
"I need to go call mama and papa. I'll be right back, okay Lan?" Sammy assured me as she left the room leaving me and Milo in the hospital room.
"What happened to me Milo?" I asked him hoping he could give me the answers.
"All I remember is that, you were in the elevator and I yelled to hold it. And suddenly there were gunshots and you fell in between the doors. I ran to you and you were unconscious." He explained.
"Do they know who shot me? I mean, do the police know?" I asked him concerned.
"Yeah. It was this guy named Derek? And his friend Arthur. Do you know them?" He asked me as my face turned white.
"Yeah. They're my ex boyfriends. Oh my god." I said holding my head in my hands.
"All of those things you were saying earlier. About graduating college and starting your career. And having the time of your life with me. Is all that true?" He asked me.
"I thought it was. It felt so real. I really thought I was living that life." I told him beginning to leak tears.
"Well. Maybe you can still make it happen? I'd love to get to know you. If you're up for it. I mean we've basically been through this trauma together. Why not make the best out of it?" He said with a smile.
"That's the one thing that's still true." I said to him.
"What is?" He asked me.
"You always managed to make a bad thing into a good thing. You made me feel like the happiest girl in the world." I told him.
"Well, maybe this is it. Maybe you're my it girl."
