Areum,
Today I can't stop thinking about you. I mean, that's a usual occurrence but your presence in my mind is especially strong today. Do you know why? It would've been our anniversary! Remember on our two year anniversary, I took you on a canoe ride and then I accidentally flipped the canoe? Both of us got soaking wet, but that beautiful smile never left your face. Then we went to that new American restaurant, and we ordered spaghetti. Spaghetti at an American restaurant in Korea. That was a weird concept. But you wanted to try it, so we did. When the waitress was adding cheese to mine, I just let her keep going and going- I didn't know I had to tell her to stop, but when there was a mountain of cheese on my plate, she gave me those 'are you serious' eyes and I was so embarrassed. After that, you called me cheesy. A cheesy boyfriend, you said. I didn't disagree. I was glad to be cheesy with you. Wow, even now I sound cheesy. I still don't regret it though. I'll be cheesy for you for the rest of my short life. I really miss you, Areum. I miss everything about you. I haven't seen you since that day you came to me in the hospital. I'm still here now, actually. These white walls, beeping machines and this completely sterile smell are driving me crazy. If I'm going to die, I would rather die in the comfort of my own home but I can't even do that. My mom is obsessed with the doctors finding a cure, something to prolong my life. So far, there haven't been any breakthroughs though, and I don't really look for any to come. I've already accepted my death. My only regret is that I can't love you longer. I'm sorry, Areum.
Yours truly, Kim Namjoon.

Tears streaked Hee-yong's eyes.
"I have to stop reading these letters, they're no good for my mental health," she cried. She'd began feeling an attachment to the author of these letters and his words broke her heart. Hee-yong found herself wishing she could find the girl- Areum, and knock some sense into her.
"He loves you, pabo!" She exclaimed to herself. With a huff, Hee-yong put the letter back into the box and retrieved the next one.

Areum,
I have big news. It's not for certain yet, but the doctors think they have something that could help me. It won't cure me, but they said it may extend my lifespan. Do you hear that? I may have more time than we think! I wanted to tell you this face to face, so I went to your house but I saw his car there, and I saw you and him, cuddled up in your garden. I don't blame you. Kai was your first love, I get that. I just wish you would've been honest with me about it before. I'm not going to lie and say that seeing the two of you together didn't completely break my heart, but I'm happy that you're happy. In the end, I guess that's all I've ever wanted. To see you smile. You look so beautiful when you smile. Did you know that? I especially love the way you have that one single crooked tooth, it just makes your smile even cuter. I love that little freckle right on your bottom lip. I love the way your smile reaches up to your eyes and lights your whole face up. I wonder if Kai notices these things. I'm sure he does. I wish I was him. I wish I was as healthy, good looking and loveable as him. Then you'd want me. I wish I could change but I can't. I'm stuck being just me. Just plain old Kim Namjoon, the ugly, boring, dying ex boyfriend. I'm sorry.
Kim Namjoon

Hee-yong gritted her teeth in anger and squealed in frustration.
"Pabo! Pabo! Pabo!" She yelled. Hee-yong covered her face with her hands.
"She doesn't even deserve you," Hee-yong mumbled.
"Who doesn't deserve who?" A voice suddenly piped up behind Hee-yong. She cursed, jamming the letter back into box and stood up. Jin stood in her doorway, a small smirk on his face as he watched his sister clutch her chest.
"Pabo, you gave me a heart attack," the girl fussed, but she still smiled at her brother and ran to give him a hug.
"Why does it feel like it's been years since I've seen you?" Hee-yong asked with her face buried in Jin's shirt. The older sibling ruffled her hair affectionately.
"Jimin told me what happened," Jin said cautiously. Hee-yong sighed. She knew this was coming. She released her big brother and turned away, flopping herself onto her bed. Jin chuckled and flopped down beside her.
"I still love him," Hee-yong admitted. Jin didn't say anything, he knew she wasn't finished talking yet, despite her pause.
"But he doesn't love me. I-... I still don't know how to be around him yet." Jin whistled lowly at his sister's words.
"Hee-yong, you were friends with Jimin for years before you ever began dating. Don't let that breakup ruin your friendship. Jimin does love you, maybe not the way you want him to, but he loves you. I see it all the time," Jin looked at his sister before he continued,
"He asks about you constantly, he talks about you almost all the time, he smiles whenever anyone mentions you. You're his best friend. After me, of course." Hee-yong smiles. Her brother was right. Yes, they dated for years, but even before that, their friendship dated back to diaper days.
"How do you always know what to say?" Hee-yong asked as she rolled over and hugged her brother. Jin grinned cockily.
"I'm perfect," he replied. Hee-yong rolled her eyes at him and slapped his head slightly.
"Pabo," she insulted her brother before sitting up again.
"Can we go get ice cream?" Hee-yong asked. Jin groaned at her and said,
"Which means you want me to pay right?" Hee-yong just pouted, giving her brother her best puppy eyes. Jin closed his eyes tightly.
"Not the eyes!" He shouted. Hee-yong laughed and Jin smiled as he stood up.
"Let's go, short stack." Hee-yong glared at Jin, but said nothing as they went to the door, put their shoes on and left for ice cream.

In the end, the siblings had decided to try out the new ice cream shop downtown. It looked like a very whimsical place and it immediately caught their eyes. Their was an eating area outside with benches that were surround by a fake garden where fake butterflies and unicorns were decorating the space. Small, colorful flowers were everywhere and the inside of the shop was painted a sky blue color with a double rainbow painted on the back wall behind the ice cream counter. It was a lovely place.
"I think we'll be coming here a lot," Hee-yong said in awe. Jin nodded in agreement. The two approached the ice cream counter, eyes scanning the ice cream flavors provided. Hee-yong glanced up to the cashier, and asked,
"What is this rainbow butterfly field flavor?" The cashier gave her a handsome smile and began to explain.
"It's a vanilla ice cream with gummy butterflies, caramel syrup and rainbow sprinkles." Hee-yong grinned and ordered that, and Jin beside her ordered the same thing. They retrieved their delicious looking ice cream and headed outside to the garden area. It was a warm day with a very slight breeze, and the scenery made the day seem even better.
"This feels very nostalgic," Hee-yong said. Jin nodded.
"Reminds me of when mom took us for ice cream and then to the park," he agreed. The two of you ate in silence, simply observing your surroundings with awestruck faces. It really was a beautiful place. Jin finished his ice cream rather quickly and excused himself to the bathroom. Hee-yong began to think about what Jin had said to her earlier that day. It was true that she and Jimin were friends long before they dated, so why did a friendship between them feel so difficult now, she wondered. She pulled over it until a deep voice interrupted her thoughts.
"Excuse me, can I sit with you?" They asked. Hee-yong's breath caught in her throat as she observed the boy. His hair was blonde, and perfectly styled. His eyes were dark, but they sparkled with life and his beautiful smile showed off two adorable dimples. The boy held a notebook clutched in one hand and a bowl of ice cream in the other hand. It took Hee-yong a moment to realize he had been asking her to sit and she cleared her throat awkwardly.
"O-of course," she stuttered and motioned to the bench across from her. He smiled again, showing off his dimples and Hee-yong just barely managed to contain her squeal.
"I'm sorry if I'm bothering you," the boy said apologetically. Hee-yong smiled kindly and shook her head.
"You're definitely not," she said. Her words came out a bit more flirty than she intended and she blushed.
"I- I mean," she was silenced by the boy's laugh. He had such a cute little laugh, but he covered his mouth while he let out the melodic sound, blocking Hee-yong's view of his dimples. She nearly pouted.
"You're really cute," He said and Hee-yong blushed even more. Just as she was about to respond, her brother's voice cut her off.
"Woah, woah, woah, who are you?" He asked the stranger. The boy shot out of his seat, and bowed.
"I'm sorry, I didn't know she was in a relationship," he said, beginning to gather his things. Jin busted into laughter and pointed at me.
"Her boyfriend? No way, that's my sister," he said, still barely managing to contain his windshield wiper laugh. The stranger's expression turned into one of relief, and he relaxed.
"Oh okay, well I'm still sorry for intruding on your time together," he said. Jin smiled at the boy, he was also clearly affected by the stranger's cuteness.
"What was your name?" Jin asked. The stranger extended his hand for a shake and said,
"Namjoon, my name is Kim Namjoon."

A/N: So they finally met. How do you think Hee-yong will react? Does this feel rushed to you? It feels kinda rushed to me, but I hope you are enjoying it nonetheless. xx, Angel.
