Pain.
Pain was all Namjoon felt. His entire body felt as if it was on fire. Blood flowed freely from his nose and mouth, seeming to never end. Every bone in his body felt like it was breaking in half. He wanted to cry, wanted to scream but he had to be strong. He had to stay calm and put on this facade so his wife and friends wouldn't be so affected. Hee-yong had sent Minji and Chanyeol to their grandparents house, they were only three, they didn't need to see their father in such a condition, and Hee-yong was in no emotional state to take care of them right then. Jin, Taehyung, Jungkook and Rosella, Yoongi, Hoseok and Jimin and Sidney had all shown up to the hospital as soon as they could when they heard about Namjoon. Together, they huddled up with Hee-yong in the waiting room. The doctor had told Hee-yong that Namjoon wasn't doing well and his likeliness to make it wasn't very high, but she held hope. They all did. After all, he had made it this far when he'd thought he would die back in his teenage years. Jin and Taehyung had their arms wrapped tightly around Hee-yong, their own tears falling into her hair.
"I know that not all of us are religious," Rosella began speaking out of the blue. Everyone's attention turned to her. She took the attention as her cue to continue.
"But let's pray for him right now," she said. And so they did. The group of nine gathered in a circle and linked hands. Rosella, being the most religious one of them all, led the prayer.
"Dear gracious heavenly father,
Please wrap your loving arms around Namjoon and help him to overcome this difficult battle. He has family and friends here who love him and need him. We thank you for listening to our prayer and we thank you for all your blessings.
In Jesus name, Amen,"

Six hours later, the group had finally calmed their hysterics and we're sitting properly in their seats. Some of them had dozed off while others including Hee-yong hadn't slept at all.
"Mrs Kim?" A doctor called. Hee-yong immediately snapped out of her seat and scurried to the doctor. His expression was grim and before he even said anything, she knew what was coming.
"No," she said. Hee-yong shook her head in denial. Tears cascaded endlessly down her face and broken sobs began echoing off the insides of her ribcage.
"He's not gone," she said with a broken voice. The doctor looked down at her sadly.
"I'm so sorry, Mrs. Kim, we did everything that we could," he said. Without warning, the group was once again surrounding Hee-yong, holding her tightly. This time, they all sobbed. They grieved for the loss of their best friend, the loss of a truly kind and good person. Namjoon was one of the very few genuinely good people in the world, and now he was gone. It didn't seem real to Hee-yong. Just the previous day, she had went out to eat breakfast with Namjoon and the kids and they all were so happy and lively. Nothing seemed wrong with him at all, so she didn't understand how he could suddenly be gone.
"This isn't fair!" She cried out. She was sure she was attracting attention but she didn't care. She didn't care about anything in that moment. Her husband, the love of her life, was gone. She hadn't even gotten to say a proper goodbye. The last thing she'd said to him was that he needed to be careful on his way to work anf that she loved him, but it didn't feel like it was enough.
"I should've told him I loved him more, I should've done so much more for him," Hee-yong sobbed. Her chest ached with the force of her tears and the grief over her lost husband.
"I loved him so fucking much," she cried.

Three years later....

Hee-yong lazily combed through her hair, not really wanting to go to work. Minji and Chanyeol had already caught the school bus and were headed to school, and Hee-yong couldn't help but miss them even though they'd only been gone for maybe thirty minutes. The house was empty save for Hee-yong, and it was dead quiet. If Namjoon were there, the two of them would be loudly joking around, or making love so loud that the neighbors would be worried. There wouldn't be a moment of silence in Namjoon's presence. Hee-yong sighed, feeling that empty space in her chest that Namjoon had left begin to ache.
Her eyes flitted to the picture frame that sat on her dresser. It was a picture that was taken on her wedding day. Namjoon had his arms wrapped securely around her waist and his dimples were so prominent due to his wide smile. His eyes were sparkling with happiness and so we're Hee-yong's. The beach breeze was gently blowing their hair in the picture and Hee-yong faintly recalled the smell of the salty sea air. Tears bubbled up in her eyes and she shook her head.
"It's been three years, I need to get over it," she said to herself. She stood up and straightened out her work uniform before grabbing her keys and heading off to work.
