"Finally came out from your hiding," mocks Charles.

Doug grins widely. He never understand why a nice chap like George got a devilish brother like Charles.

Doug knows he shouldn't say anything. Just wanted to wipe his wicked smile so badly.

Doug comments, "Just returned from awesome honeymoon. You wouldn't know how refreshing it felt."

The other Lords laugh, saying he's one lucky man for having such a pretty wife.

Charles gritted his teeth. He turns around and leaves that spot. A session in the parliament is starting soon.

Duke Exeter says, "You just waved a red flag to a bull. Expect the charge from him."

Doug says, "Not afraid of him."

He looks around them. No sign of his friend so he asks, "Where's Lucien?"

"Not back from countryside yet. Still busy courting a certain Lady."

"Are you sure, Your Grace? He isn't always obedient son..."

"He knows the right move to do."

The session has started. The Lords go to occupy their seats.

Doug sits on a couch.

It has been a long day. Charles and the Prime Minister tackled Duke Exeter's petition for rehabilitation in education system.

Stalemate.

(I must be crazy! Somehow Charles resembled the old Prime Minister. Or maybe Emmie was right? Needed my eyes checked?)

Doug sighs. He's drifting to sleep.

He's walking in a crowded ballroom. George is dancing with Emmie as usual. She looks very pretty tonight. Dazzling.

(Why she looks so happy? Because she's dancing with the man she loves).

Doug looks another way.

Charles is there. In a corner of the ballroom. He is holding his wine glass tightly, his fingers turned white.

He is staring at George and Emmie too.

It's isn't a normal gaze. It's a predator gaze, eyeing his prey.

Doug sips his wine.

Charles fakes a smile when an acquaintance greets him. The smile never reached his eyes.

The carriage stops abruptly and Doug got awakened from his dream. The event happened in the past. When he first met Charles in a party. Strange he would dream about it now.

He rubs his eyes. He stretches his body before he gets out of the carriage.

*****

Emmie is feeling sick. Nauseous. She hasn't feeling well since few days ago. Today is the worst. Continues vomiting.

She smiles weakly when Doug finally comes home. Lately the parliament kept him busy all day long.

"Aren't you feeling well? You look so pale," asks him.

"Must be something I ate. The cod fish might not be fresh."

"Oh, Dear. You must rest up. Let me take care of you."

Doug carries her to their bedroom.

This is what she loved from him. He always knows how to make her feel special.
