Robbie blushed a bright red that he thought his face might burst. He turned away hoping Molly didn't notice.
"Are you alright?"
"Yes. Yes I'm fine." He tried figuring out an excuse. "It's a bit chilly out here now." Was all the excuse he could muster. She jumped off of the wall and went to leave with him, "what's that?" She asked pointing to the lit up forest in the distance. Robbie took a look and his eyes widened, "they're setting fire to the forest."
"They're planning on smoking us out of the palace." Molly and Robbie raced down the bridge and back into the drawing room where everyone still sat.
"We should get the troops out there right now." Molly rushed in. "Look out the window."
Everyone flocked to the Windows to see the forest glowing with growing flames.
"They're intending to drive us out of the castle." Martha said. Jewel looked at Spo and then back at the wildfire, "why do that? We're so high up, wouldn't the smoke be useless?" Jewel asked.
"The kingdom isn't just the palace, Jewel. The majority of the villagers live in the trees."
"Oh my God." Jewel ran outside, Sportacus followed her onto the turret, "What are you doing?" He asked her.
"I have to warn the village of sirens down below."
"Your wings will burn."
"So will theirs, you can either help me on the ground or stay up here. Molly, Soraya! Come and help me!"
The three of them descended down towards the fire and alerted the villager Sirens that lived below, a trail of flying creatures ascending the air as they were warned. They headed up to the palace to take cover, Sportacus knew there would be some that wouldn't make it, so he grabbed Robbie and Stephanie and took to the grounds to rescue those whose wings weren't fit to fly. Eventually, every villager near the fire flocked to the palace. Chaos and panic stirred until Molly screeched loudly over everyone, "Listen. I know all of you are in a panic but please stay calm. The hunters have declared war upon the empire, any civilian will be under our protection. Any of you willing to join in the fight will report directly to me."
Robbie leaned over towards Soraya, "Directly to her?"
"Yes, she's the leader of the WindFleet. Trained and skilled fighters apart from the troops."
"She's just full of surprises." He said almost in an exhausted voice. Molly came over to him, seeing his face.
"I know, everyone gives me that face when they first get to know me."
"Is there anything you can't do?"
"Not that I know of, I'll let you know if something comes up." She smiled, making him laugh.
The troops were alerted and stationed around the castle, mapping out a point of attack for the morning. Water was dropped from above to douse the flames over and over until the sunrise.
Spartacus and the royals stayed inside with the civilians that stayed behind. He awoke to something startling, "Jewel, no! What are you doing?"
There she was, standing in her battle tunic, strapping on her wing blades. Sportacus immediately jumped from the bed, "Please don't do this, let me go out there for you."
"No, Spo. This is something I have to do."
"But what happens if you get hurt? Or worse?"
"Die? A few weeks ago, there was a part of me that was missing. Now that she's been found, I realized she's all of me and she's charging forward. These people here mourned over a missing princess and now they have her back. I need to set an example and encourage them."
Spo nodded, "I'm not letting you go out there alone."
"Then cover the grounds with Robbie and the selected troops." She gave him a soft gaze. He nodded and smiled at her, "let's go."
Molly, Soraya and Martha waited for them in the corridor, "Jewel, since you have declared war the troops need your leadership. Molly will help you with her fleet but the army is all yours." Martha told her.
"Okay." Her eyes turned doe like and her mind went blank. What was she going to say to her subjects? As she was rushed into the barricade with warriors of all colors and genders, her heart swelled. Molly took her hand, "Just be real with your people." She whispered.
Jewel looked down at her feet and then at the brave men and women staring back at her, "Uhm..." She stopped.
"Just a few days ago, I knew myself as just Jewel. I didn't know my past and I was terrified of my future..." She swallowed hard. "I had no memories of who I was or what I was capable of. I never knew that a whole kingdom mourned the loss of my father and I. I never knew I was this precious to so many people. But in three days, with the shock of finding out I have a kingdom and a mother who has led you for so many years alone. I took to this place like a bird to the air, some how I knew I belonged here the minute I set foot here. I was finally home..." Jewel fought the tears threatening to overflow in her eyes. "And it's seriously mesmerizing to see all of you before me who trust me enough to lead you to victory. I am humbled and thankful for you all. Some of you know me before I even knew you and that's amazing...Now that I have returned and home, I promise everyone who lives in it will be safe. No one threatens my home, no o e threatens my family!"
Jewels sudden authority in her voice riled up the crowd.
"The prodigal daughter is home now and we will fear no human, no creature that means to threaten us. This is our home, our kingdom, our land and we will fight to the death protecting our way of life and security!"
The crowd cheered and chanted, Jewel looked at Sportacus and Molly standing aside, "Perfect." Molly mouthed. She stepped off the platform and the troop flew into formation in the air.
"Are you ready?" Her cousin asked.
"I'm terrified. I didn't even know I had that in me."
