The Same Nightmare

I had a dream, a terrible dream,

I wanted to cry, I wanted to scream,

As I had this dream,

This terrible dream.

In this dream were those I hold dear,

And this has been my greatest fear.

One who is strong and silent,

Another who questions the world.

One who helps her friends,

Another who does the same.

One who is like a sister,

Another who can be kind.

One who is a reader all the way,

Another who causes many laughs.

One who plans many events,

Another who is strong despite her circumstances.

All were there in the dream,

And all was fine as it would seem.

We sat beneath a tree,

In a field as calm as it could be.

I talked with all,

I laughed with all,

And I received a tragic call.

I picked up the phone,

And the first thing I heard was a moan.

In the background I hears crashing and a yell,

And it sounded like some sort of hell.

A voice told me to run and hide,

He said a meteor had split the earth open wide.

At first I thought it was a lie,

And then what I saw almost made me cry.

As I heard the line go,

I watched meteors in the distance fall like snow.

They seemed slow at first,

But then they sped up and the impact was the worst.

I ran back to my friends under the tree,

And gave then the worst news there could be.

And before we could arise,

The tree exploded and knocked us aside like flies.

I jumped up to find my friends on the ground,

But there was one that could not be found.

We helped one another to our feet,

And fled this force we could not defeat.

I looked again for the friend who disappeared,

But I saw him dead as I feared.

We ran through the field in hopes of getting away,

But a crack formed in front of us to our dismay,

And trapped us all the way.

We tried as hard as we could,

But no matter what we did,

We fell one by one.

I dodged a meteor and another hit my friend,

I tried to push one away but missed,

And the rest met similar fates till we were but two.

The terrain was destroyed and a second crack opened,

Directly under my last friend.

I dove for her,

I caught her,

I caught the wall,

But I slipped.

That one moment where I almost saved her,

The one moment I thought we could make it,

Was gone when I lost my grip and we fell.

And I awoke with tears in my eyes.
