The ship, the sail,
The thundering hail.
The man, the crew,
The lightning askew.
The sea, the rage,
The rattling cage.
The slip, the fall,
The survivor's call.
The rope, the rescue,
The helpful few.
The crack, the break,
The mast as a rake.
The tilt, the fall,
The creature begins to crawl.
The slash, the claw,
The creatures maw.
The wounds, the blood,
The hull is a flood.
The man, the last,
The man will hold fast.
The escape, the boat,
The man may gloat.
The oars, the drift,
The man cannot lift.
The last, the survivor,
The creature kills no more.
****************************************************************
This poem is slightly confusing, so I shall explain it.
The first part is talking about a ship in a storm.
The second one is the same, but talking about the crew, not the ship.
The third talks about a creature inside a cage the ship is trying to transport through the storm.
The next part is where a man falls overboard and cries for help.
Only a few men go to save the man overboard.
Next the mast breaks and rakes across the deck, killing all in its path.
The ship begins to sink and the creature gets out of his cage.
The creature attacks the crew.
The hull floods and men are being killed.
The last man is able to get away on an escape boat.
The man is too weak to lift the oars and simply drifts in the storm.
The last part refers to the creature drowning and the last man surviving.
