Tw aracniphobia (the fear of spiders)
VIRGIL'S POV
Virgil lead Patton down the hall, deep in thought. He was slightly confused by his perky companion. Patton didn't follow the rules like everyone else.
Not the rules set out by law enforcers or other authority figures but those set out by society. Those unspoken but understood rules that everyone knew. He was kinda like Logan in that sense, only with Logan it was more like he didn't understand or disregarded the feelings of others, always doing and saying the logical thing even if others thought it wasn't necessarily the 'right' thing to do. From what he knew of Patton he was the exact opposite. Hypersensitive to the feelings of others and usually acting on pure impulse. Virgil felt that people like Patton and Logan were the ones that made society better. Questioning the rules and making others realise they needed to be changed.
Virgil was jerked out of his thoughts by Patton just as they entered the training room.
"Don't we need to get changed into a uniform or something?"
"Remy doesn't require it and actually prefers if we don't"
"Why's that"
"Well his reasoning is that if we're attacked then we wouldn't be wearing uniforms, therefore to make it so we can better defend ourselves so we wear our everyday cloths, to make it more realistic. It's also partly because this is a mental health institution and kids feel more comfortable if they're wearing their own cloths"
"That's so cool"
"Well I'm glad to see someone liks the way I teach it" Remy had snuck up behind Virgil as he was talking.
Virgil jumped sending a powerful backhand his way."Calm down little anxiety you're gonna give yourself a panic attack, or me a bruise" he said with a laugh as he caught Virgil's hand.
"I told you not to do that" Virgil said trying to sound mad but obviously happy to see his mentor.
"Hi I'm Patton, you must be Remy" Patton said his hand outstretched in greating.
Virgil about slapped his nieve friend's hand down as he forced Patton to lower his hand. He knew Remy and he knew that he loved to 'take things the wrong way' as he said. This often ment doing things like flipping people flat on their backs when they offered their hand to shake.
"You should probably listen to Virgil" Remy said as he walked away to supervise others that had already arrived.
"Why didn't you let me shake his hand?" Patton asked in confusion.
Virgil explained Remy's little quirk as they made their way over to the punching bags.
"Well thanks for that" Patton said as Virgil began his form.
After a moment he tried to mimic Virgil. Virgil quickly noticed that he was doing it wrong and stopped him before he got himself hurt.
"It's probably best if you don't try to mimic me"
"Why not?"
"I've been doing this for 3 years. I know how far I can push myself and how to do each move properly. Come on I should probably teach you the basics before we try doing jump reverse side kicks"
"Is that what those are called?"
Virgil led Patton to one of the empty mats and started to teach him the basics. He started with how to throw a basic punch, making sure Patton was keeping his first tight and fully rotating his body with each punch. As soon as he had judged that Patton had mastered that move he moved onto the next one. As he started to teach Patton how to do a front kick he started to ask questions.
"So why exactly are you here?"
Virgil saw Patton begin to panic and understood where he was coming from. It was hard to tell others especially on the first couple of days when you thought that you were the only one with this problem or you were scared that people would look at you differently. As he saw Patton internally panicking he decided to try and set him more at ease with the story of one of the other patients that he had met.
"You know Remy. He's so addicted to caffeine he stays awake for days at a time only sleeping when forgets to drink another coffee and he crashes" Virgil said pointing out their instructor who was leaning against the wall sipping coffee looking out at the training students.
PATTON'S POV
Patton liked Virgil. He was a fierce boy who was kind to others. Well once he stopped worrying about what they thought of him. That was one of the reasons why Patton started panicking once Virgil started asking questions. He couldn't lose his friend now. Many of his previous worries stated to resurface. He barely noticed when Virgil started telling him about their instructor.
Suddenly Patton realised something. Virgil hadn't asked what he did to get put in here, he asked why he was here.
"Major aracniphobia" Patton said, and he wasn't lying. That was something that played a major role in getting him checked into this place. If he wasn't so afraid of those creepy crawly death dealers he wouldn't have gotten bullied as much as he had been.
"So it's an extreme fear of spiders" Virgil said his tone almost teasing.
Patton stood bolt upright as the name of his most feared enemy was spoken.
"I prefer it if you call them what they are kiddo" Patton said struggling to keep his voice calm.
"Aracni-" Virgil started.
"Creepy crawly death dealers" Patton told him his voice monotone.
"Oook" Virgil said slowly "we better be getting back to our rooms pretty soon. We don't want to have to go to therapy all sweaty"
"Ok kiddo!" Patton agreed his voice once again it usual chipper tone, now that the conversation had turned away from his nemis.
Second chapter completed, yay. I'm planning on updates every Sunday but I'm extremely forgetful so don't count on it.
