Virgil's POV
Virgil had sat at the door for about two hours, waiting for Patton to come out for something, before he heard a thump. 'No no he wouldn't have.' Virgil frantically tried to get in, worried about what he would find. Virgil slammed himself against the door one final time, the wood splintering and finally giving way.
"Patton!" Virgil rushed into the room tripping over a chair that was haphazardly tipped over in his path. Virgil froze when he saw Patton......
Hanging.....
'He did this because of you! You caused this, you did this to him! If you had just manned up and explained everything to him in the first place he would never have felt the need to do something like this!'
Virgil propped the chair back up gently pushing Patton up.
"Please don't be dead, please don't be dead, please!" Virgil worked the rope out from around Patton's neck catching him as his limp body fell. Virgil laid Patton or on the bed frantically searching for any sign of life.
Patton's POV
Patton floated in the inky blackness, feeling peace for the first time in a long time.
"You shouldn't have done that." Patton flipped around to see who had spoken. It was a young girl, about 5 or 6 wearing a red poka-dot dress with green trim. "You're already regretting it, I can see it in your eyes."
"Who are you? Are you an angel! Does this mean I'm dead?"
"No I'm not an angel and no you're not dead. At least not yet."
"But he will be soon." A deep booming voice echoed around Patton. He frantically searched for where it was coming from, finally finding the owner...beside the little girl? The owner off the voice was a scary looking man in his early twenties. He had on a dark flowing cape and a top hat. His face was mostly obscured by shadows but Patton could see sharp fangs protruding from between his thin lips.
"Are you sure you're not an angel because he looks allot like a devil to me."
The little girl ignored Patton turning her full attention to the man. "No! Virgil will save him! He probably was waiting outside the door for us!"
"Really! Virgil! The person who basically said that he hated us! Ha! He's probably celebrating the fact that Patton's not annoying him for once." Patton shrunk into himself, every word that the dark man spoke shoving a knife deeper into his soul. "He'll be glad when he finds Patton. One less mistake to ruin his life."
"Virgil is Patton's best friend! We don't even know if that's really what he was going to say! Yes, they've been hanging out less but that's probably just because he was busy or something. It doesn't necessarily mean that he hates us!"
"I'm very confused. Can someone explain to me what's going on?" Patton cut in just to be ignored once again.
"He was hanging out with Logan and Roman just as much as he usually does, maybe even more, and they're a couple now so they wouldn't want him around to be a third wheel."
"Um... Maybe they had a wanted a tricycle?" Patton tried to light up the mood a bit. They both looked at him the man glaring at him and the girl apparently surprised that he was still here. "Oh, well now that I have you're attention can you guys please tell me what's going on?"
"Sorry kiddo, we're the different voices in your head. We're supposed to help you out." She said the last part spitefuly glaring at the dark man. "I'm basically that little bit of childish innocence that tells you to keep moving forward and looking for the best in everyone you meet!"
"Why are you a little girl?" Patton was even more confused than he was before he asked. "And what is he supposed to be?"
"Well this is apparently what you think of when you think of innocence." She paused for a moment before continuing quieter. "He represents the voice of the world. What you imagine those around you are saying."
"Is he Gerald? He sounds like Gerald."
"You know I'm right here." Probably Gerald looked annoyed. "But yes I am the voice that you most commonly hear."
"That means that you have that little crush on Virgil!" Patton wiggled his eyebrows teasing Gerald.
"For the LAST TIME, it is YOUR CRUSH that you have PINNED to ME, because you're a LITTLE WIMP who CAN'T EVEN ACCEPT HIS FEELINGS FOR HIS BEST FRIEND!" Patton started to tear up. This was all too much. The yelling, the anger, it reminded him to much of Dominic. This started out so peaceful. Why did everything always have to go so wrong.
"So you accept that Virgil is his best friend." Gerald opened his mouth trying to contradict her but feel flat, resigning himself to just huffing in acceptance. He soon faded into the darkness. The little girl watched him fade before turning back to Patton. "So you never said what my name was!"
"Don't you have a name that you were born with?"
"No silly, we're figments of your imagination, not real people. Whatever name that you give us is our name. You're kinda like our dad in that sense."
Patton thought for a minute looking her over. "I mean you remind me of a watermelon with that dress so.... maybe watermelon?"
Watermelon giggled. "I like your idea but watermelon isn't exactly the most conventional name. What about something that just starts with a W?
"You're probably right... How about Wanda!" Wanda beamed her approval. "Were keeping watermelon as a nickname though!"
"Of course! It's so fun to be finally talking to yo-" Wanda was cut short by a bright light appearing in the distance.
"Am I finally dead! Is that the afterlife calling to me?! I'm not ready to go! Not anymore!"
"Calm down Patton you're just waking up. Virgil saved you just like I said he would."
"What? But I don't want to wake up either! (my phone tried to replace either with with her😆) I just want to stay here with you!"
"Well sometimes we have to do things that we don't want to. But don't worry about me. I'm always be here helping you to be the best you can be, regardless of what Gerald says. Now go on. Virgil's waiting for you."
Patton stepped into the light closing his eyes against the bright glare. When he opened them he found the dirty white of the ceiling staring back at him.
I scared you didn't I. Don't worry I wouldn't kill Patton off.....without reason.
