Chapter 20

Carter's POV~

"No you're not. I am." I couldn't believe the words coming out his mouth. "What?! You cheated on me?" I asked Lox. "Yeah. I did. And it was the best thing I ever did. I caught you with a girl in bed once and had Jacob there for me. Alex is Jacob's real son." "Screw ALL of you!" I walked out furious. I still didn't know why she would do that. But I still have my daughter.

Melanie's POV~

Carter left after Jacob said that. "A-Are you guys serious? Jacob you're Alex's Dad?" He nodded as he walked towards Lox. "You wouldn't believe who he was with." "Who?" "Katie." It was surprising. He's never liked Katie. "Wow. Why didn't you tell us Lox?" "I don't know. I just thought you might've thought different of me for having Jacob's kid rather than Carter's." "I would never Lox. Jacob's been a great father to Alex. And were you in the room with Carter during his birth?" "Well. Carter wasn't there. He wasn't in town the day of, just afterwards. I was in the room with Lox." "Oh. Well you're both happy so I'm happy. Love You Both." I gave them both a hug with Cameron joining in. Derek walked in with Alex. "Can we come back down?" "Yeah D." "What was going on? Why were you mad Dad?" "I'm sorry for yelling. It was just the guy that was in here." He nodded and hugged Cameron. "Who was that?" Alex asked looking up at Jacob and Lox. "No one Alex. Don't worry about it." Jacob picked Alex up. "We should get going. It's getting late." "Okay. Well we'll see you guys tomorrow. Goodnight." I said as I closed the door behind them. "Dad. Why was Carter here?" "Should we tell him?" Cameron asked me. "He can handle it." He sat down and say Derek on his lap. "So you know how Uncle Jacob is Alex's dad right?" He nodded. "Well all these years Carter really was. At least your mom and I thought it was. But it was actually Uncle Jacob." "Oh. So Alex really is Uncle Jacob's." "Correct. But you can't tell him this okay?" He nodded. "Mom. Dad. I'm tired. I'm going to sleep now, goodnight." "Goodnight D. Love You." Cameron walked upstairs with him. I jumped in the shower real quick and changed into sweats and a hoodie. I heard Derek laughing so I went to his room. But he wasn't in there so I tried Emma's room. "What're you guys laughing at?" I said with a smile. "Emma. She keeps smiling." Derek said. I saw Emma giggling in Cameron's arms. I let out a slight laugh. "Okay. You should get to bed now D." "Really? Can I just go to sleep when Emma does? Please." He said as he got in his knees. I looked at Cameron. He nodded. "Okay. Just this once." I walked back into my room. Cameron and Derek came in with Emma. Derek laid his head down in my pillow as I placed Emma in the bassinet next to the bed on my side. I turn around and see Derek sleeping in the middle of the bed. Cameron and I just laughed and went to sleep on the separate sides of the bed. I woke up late around 11:30 and saw Derek and Cameron hugging in their sleep. Emma was wide awake so I placed her in her bouncer as I took a shower. I got out and decided to wake them up. "D. Cam. Wake up we're going out to brunch." They woke up and got ready. I buckled Emma into her car seat and Derek sat in the back next to his sister. We went to a diner down the block. I sat in a booth next to Emma and Derek and Cameron sat next to each other. As we were eating a guy came up to us. "Cameron! It's so nice to see you bro." "You too Josh." "Who's this?" "My wife, Melanie, my kids Derek and Emma." "That dare did you good didn't it?" I saw Cameron's eyes full of guilt. "Sure. I'll see you later." We ate in silence the rest of brunch. We went back home. I sat on the couch playing with Emma while Derek was doing online school. Cameron sat down on the other couch. "Can we talk about the diner?" "What?" "The dare. I just want to know Cameron." "Ok. Sure." I sat up straight. "The weekend before I asked you out Josh had a party. We played truth or dare and he dared me to ask you out. I asked you out but I soon fell in love with you, deeply. I cared about you because you were my best friend so it was totally fine to act like a boyfriend around you." "So. You didn't ask me out from the kindness of your heart. But because of a dare?" "No Melanie I lik-" "It's fine. I mean we're here now. Or was your proposal a dare too?" I walked upstairs angry. I couldn't believe after years he didn't tell me. I placed Emma in her crib and walked into my room. "I'm going to get groceries. I'll be back later." I was headed out the door but was stopped my Cameron's grip.
