Left speechless and not knowing what else to say, Snappy got up and hurried out of the restaurant. As soon as he did, his twin brother and his fiancée entered.
"Hey, Snappy," Shelly started. "Why are you—"
"No time," he interrupted her as he hurried past them and down the sidewalk.
Slappy rolled his eyes and slowly shook his head. "He has a serious problem. In fact, he should be the one who should be going to therapy and taking that medicine, not you."
She took his hand into hers and searched for Mary-Ellen. "Your brother is not crazy. That is stretching a bit. I am sure that he has plans that he needs to attend and his own life to live."
"Pfft. I doubt that."
They soon spotted Mary-Ellen and walked over to her table. Mary-Ellen had finished her taco and was sipping on her wine. She noticed them and glanced up at them, smiling.
"Hello, Shelly," she greeted, setting her glass of wine back on the table. "And Slappy. Glad that you could make it."
Slappy glared at her. "Shelly told me that you invited her for lunch," he stated. He crossed his arms. "Why?"
"I am trying my best to be nice. You love her, and I need to accept that. I want to accept it." She rubbed her belly. "Plus, we need to discuss more about our baby. I really want Shelly to be in the baby's life."
"Hmm?" He was getting suspicious as to why she was being so nice and slowly uncrossed his arms. "Are you serious right now?"
"Of course I am." She motioned to the other booth that Snappy had sat in earlier. "Please...sit. And I already got you some water, Shelly." She pointed at the glass of water.
Shelly sat down and smiled at her. "Thank you."
Slappy pouted. "What? No drink for me?" He sighed and went up to the bar that does not serve drinks that can make you drunk.
Shelly tilted her head down and was trying to brush off a piece of her hair that was on her shirt.
That was when Mary-Ellen made her move.
She opened some of the packets of hot sauce that she did not use on her taco and poured the contents into Shelly's drink.
