Mary-Ellen's eyes widened, and her hands shook a bit. She quickly hid her hands under the blankets and tried to remain calm and collective, but it was too late. Wally has already caught on.
"What is the matter?" he asked, his smile growing bigger by the second. "You look as if you have seen a ghost. You look so pale."
She squinted and clenched her hands that were still shaking and hiding underneath the sheets into tight fists. She wanted to punch him. But she knew better. She would be in deep trouble if she did not keep a cool head.
"You are bluffing," she said. "And for the record, my skin is pale because of the traumatic event that I had to endure. Shelly assaulted me! I feared for my life!"
Wally frowned at her. He was done playing around. It was obvious that she was not going to confess.
"Liar." He pulled the lid off the container and smelled the drink. "Mmm. Water and hot sauce. How delightful." He put it back on and shoved the drink back in his backpack. "I saw what you did. I saw the whole thing. You putting lots of hot sauce in Shelly's drink." He got up from the bed, picked up his backpack, and swung it over his shoulders. "It would be a shame if Slappy found out. Your plan would be ruined."
Mary-Ellen frowned at him. "What do you want?"
"Clear Shelly's name and make her love me and Snappy...or else."
"What?! H-how can I clear her name?"
He shrugged. "That is your problem. You either find a way to make Shelly innocent and get away with it...or I turn you in." He chuckled. "And I know that Snappy is working with you."
With that, he walked out of the room.
