Mary-Ellen was surprised. She brushed her hair back and held her own hands.
"That...that is wonderful," she said. "I am happy for you and Shelly."
Slappy's eyes widened, and he raised an eyebrow. He was a bit surprised at her statement. He thought that she would freak out and start an argument!
"You...you are?" he asked.
"Yes." She held her purse close to her. "You and Shelly deserve each other."
He then narrowed his eyebrows and crossed his arms. "I know what you are doing."
"Y-you do?"
"Absolutely. You are pretending to be okay with it to get on my good side. Well, you cannot fool me."
Mary-Ellen sniffed and teared up. But they were fake tears. "I am speaking the truth. I have been thinking to myself. I want to change. I want to be good. Like you. And if Shelly makes you happy, then so be it." She pulled out a folded piece of paper and handed it to him. "Here is what I thought for custody arrangements."
Slappy took the paper and unfolded it. He read it and was shocked.
"You want Shelly to be in the baby's life?"
"Yes. Shelly has every right to be in our baby's life. She is your girlfriend and will make a wonderful addition to the family."
Mary-Ellen then noticed something from the corner of her eye. Someone.
