I woke up early the next morning, but it's not like I slept well. I kept having steamy dreams involving Louis. I brushed my teeth before going to the kitchen for breakfast. Stepping into the common area, I froze. Someone was here, standing in the living room. It was a man. He was tall, broad, and extremely handsome. His blue eyes stood out with his dark hair. He gave off an aura of importance, even though he was only in jeans and a simple long sleeved shirt.
"Um... can I help you?" I asked hesitantly. I didn't really know what else to do in this situation. He smiled warmly at me, which threw me off even more.
"I'm here to speak with my brother," the man said. It only confused me even more.
"Your brother?" I repeated.
"Yes, my brother, Lucifer," he clarified. My eyes widened slightly. If he called Louis his brother, then did that make him an angel? I turned and went to Louis' room. I barged in without knocking; the situation allowed it.
"Luci! Luci!" I said as I shook his awake. He looked at me confused and sleepy. "You have a visitor," I explained. Louis sighed before getting out of his bed and throwing a plush robe on. I followed him back out to the living room. He sighed when he saw the man.
"My, my, if it isn't Michael. What brings you here this early in the morning? I haven't seen you since I decided to walk amongst the living part time," Louis said sarcastically.
"Dad sent me. He's heard of your new pet human," Michael answered.
Pet human? I'd never felt so small and insignificant in my life. He made it sound like I was a goldfish.
"What about it?" Louis said unmoved.
"We agreed you can do as you please so long as hell runs smoothly, but you can't keep your pet," Michael explained further. Louis crosses his arms and stared Michael down. It's like I wasn't even in the room anymore.
"Why not? I've never had interference from you before on this matter," Louis challenged him. Michael sighed and shook his head at Louis. They really did act like siblings.
"You can mess around with anyone you want, but not her," Michael replied.
Me specifically? Why?
"Why care now?" Louis asked.
"Because she's different," Michael answered.
"I've noticed," Louis smirked. Michael seemed to finally notice me then. He glanced at me before looking at the ground.
"Her purpose isn't to entertain you. I'm afraid you'll have to make other arrangements for that," Michael said, bringing the conversation back on the track he created.
"Sorry, can't. I signed a contract," Louis said with a shrug of his shoulders. I couldn't believe he was using a homemade, handwritten contract as a basis for arguing with an angel. He truly was Lucifer.
"The arrangement also mentioned no kissing, but you broke that rule with no problems," Michael countered. The fact that they were actually arguing over the stupid contract was absurd.
"I amended that yesterday," Louis defended himself. Curiously, I went to the paper on the fridge. Sure enough, the kissing rule had been marked out.
"It's simple, Luci. Find someone else. It's not that hard for you," Michael finally sighed.
"I'm more interested in why you care so much," Louis said taking a step closer to Michael.
"Megan is... special. She can't be tampered with by the likes of you," Michael answered vaguely.
"How am I special?" I blurted. Both of them turned to look at me. It was like they were noticing that I could speak for the first time.
"Megan, How many times have you died in your lifetime?" Michael asked me. That was a question I wasn't expecting. Louis scoffed as he turned back to Michael.
"What kind of question is-"
"Three," I answered, cutting Louis off. Louis stopped before staring at me.
"Don't you ever wonder why none of them stuck? Each time you die, you come back stronger. You're resurrections are part of the reason Luci here can't use most of his powers on you," Michael finally explained.
"That's why my wings come out when I kiss her?" Louis asked. Michael smirked this time.
"No. That's just because you're strongly attracted to her," Michael said. I stepped around the counter and into the living room.
"So what am I?" I asked Michael out of curiosity. He smiled warmly at me.
"You're a visionary," he said simply, like that was supposed to connect all the dots.
"She's not," Louis said defiantly.
"She is."
Louis apparently knew what he meant, but I was still confused.
"Anyway, that's all I came to say. If I know you, brother, I'm sure I'll be back," Michael said before he disappeared from the living room with nothing but a warm glow. My eyes snapped to Louis.
"What the hell was that?" I asked softly. Louis wasn't looking at me; he was staring where Michael was just standing. I walked to stand in front of him and grabbed his arm. "Luci," I asked quietly. He looked at my hand on his arm before looking at me.
"A visionary is a person who doesn't follow the rules of fate. They can't die until they do something. Something no other human can do. Something extremely beyond the norm for humans," he explained. It only left me even more confused.
"What is that supposed to mean? What am I supposed to do?" I asked. Luci took the hand that was on his arm and led me to the couch to sit down.
"I don't know. None of us do. That's the whole point of a visionary. No one knows until it happens, and no one is allowed to interfere. Another visionary is Martin Luther King Jr. or Abraham Lincoln, if that gives you any idea," Luci said. I thought about it hard. To me, that didn't make any sense.
"But he died," I noted.
"Only when his task had been completed. You don't think anyone tried to kill him before then?" Louis informed me.
"So after I do whatever it is I'm supposed to do, I'll die?" I asked. Louis only looked at me sympathetically.
"That seems to be the pattern. When you cheat death so many times, it catches up with you," he admitted. "But I'm not going to let that happen. I don't care what Michael says. You're staying by my side," Luci said as he squeezed my hand firmly. I only felt slightly reassured.
