"Oh and before we go inside, I should warn you about my sister. She's three years older than me and a self-proclaimed man melter. Her words, not mine. She may make a pass at you. No doubt, she'll be here. She never left home. Oh, and don't mention my dad, bad subject, everyone will get antsy and irritated. Other than that, let's see," I rambled in the car on the way to my mother's house. It was the week after my mother called, and Luci insisted on coming. Luci chuckled as he placed a hand on my thigh.

"Everything will be fine, Megan. Calm down," he assured me. I sighed and looked out the window as he pulled into the street and parked in front of the house. It took a plane and a rental car to get here, but we were finally in my hometown of Arlington, Texas. To say I was nervous was an understatement. Luci turned the car off before coming around to open my door for me. I sighed before taking his offered hand. He led me to the door where he waited patiently after knocking. Finally, the door swung open. Of course, it was my older sister. She stood there in the shortest shorts she could probably find and a lingerie type blouse.

"Jessica," I greeted her. She eyed me from head to toe before popping her gum audibly.

"Gold digger," she responded. I rolled my eyes. "Ma's been waiting on you guys," she said before disappearing back into the house. Luci gave my hand a reassuring squeeze before leading me into the house. Jessica has already sat on the couch next to our mom as she continued eyeing me. Luci was the first to speak up.

"Hi, I'm Louis Iso," he introduced himself with a smile as he let go of my hand to extend it towards my mother. She only eyed him as she sat there.

"I'm Megan's mother, Mia," she introduced herself without shaking Luci's hand. I sighed and grabbed his wrist before dragging him over to sit with me on the empty couch.

"What did you want to discuss, Ma?" I asked, trying to hurry this awkward situation.

"What do you want with Megan?" My mother asked getting straight to the point.

"I just want to be by her side as long as she'll allow me," Luci answered in his velvety voice. My mom and Jessica immediately started swooning. Jessica popped her chest out a little more as she leaned forward.

"Megan can be immature sometimes. Surely you didn't want a more mature woman? Maybe someone a little older than her?" Jessica said, trying to be seductive. To me it was just gross. I resisted the urge to roll my eyes at her.

Called it.

"No thank you. I like Megan because she's Megan. You raised your daughter well," Luci answered smoothly, diverting the conversation back to my mother. My mother giggled and blushed.

Was the iron woman really acting bashful right now?

"I tried my best," my mother smiled. I couldn't believe what was happening right now. "Jessica showed me pictures of you from the Internet. It seems that you're quite a celebrity. What exactly is it that you do?" She asked.

"I'm a CEO and entrepreneur," he answered easily. From there, the conversation turned to small talk. Jessica and my mother wanted to know all about Luci, and I think it was more for their own gain.

"So is it a possibility that one day you'll marry my Megan?" My mom asked. My eyes widened as my head snapped to Luci. We didn't prepare for this line of questioning.

"It's most certainly is on my to do list," Luci answered easily. My mouth hung wide open. He couldn't be serious. Luci peeked at me out of the corner of his eye and winked at me. I shut my mouth quickly and looked away from him as I blushed.

"Well it looks like you treat her better than her last boyfriend did," Jessica input. "If only we could've met first," she sighed wistfully. My blush deepened as my eyes went to my lap. As if it wasn't embarrassing enough already. Luci's hand slid into mine easily.

"My goal is to make Megan as happy as possible," he smiled as he looked at me. My mom invited him to stay for dinner. The whole time, it was like I was invisible; not that I'm complaining. Everything was 'yerno this' and 'yerno that' as they filled his plate to the brim. And like the obedient son-in-law, he ate everything they gave him and complimented my mom's cooking. Finally, we were able to leave.

"Make sure to come back soon! And start planning the wedding, I want my grand-babies soon!" My mother yelled out the door as we headed to the car. Luci chuckled and waved at them before opening my door for me.

"We'll be sure to visit again when my schedule clears up," he promised. I glared at him before getting in the car. It was already dark outside since we spent the whole day here. Luci got in the car and started it with a sigh.

"That was a lot of food," he said, satisfied with himself. He backed out of the driveway before driving off. I knew I was pouting but I couldn't help it.

"Why did you get their hopes up like that? They're going to be bragging to all of their friends that the little-nothing-Megan is marrying a conglomerate," I pouted.

"Technically, I'm a chaebol," Luci has the nerve to joke with me.

"Technically, you're the literal Devil," I snapped back. Luci only smirked at me as I crossed my arms. "I told you they'd like you better than me," I muttered.  He only shrugged.

"That's what you wanted, right?" He asked. I sighed and looked out the window without answering his question when something popped into my mind. I turned back to him quickly.

"And why would you tell them that you want to marry me?" I asked. His smile went soft, as his eyes stayed on the road.

"Because I do," he answered easily. "If we were normal people, and these were normal circumstances, I would already be planning a proposal of some kind. But we're not normal. I'm not human," he explained sadly. I froze as I let his words sink in. They were true words, but they still hurt. Being constantly reminded that this relationship was going to end in my death, hurt more than I was willing to admit. I released the breath I didn't even realize I was holding before I relaxed against the seat.

"When I die, promise me you'll take care of them," I asked softly.

"I'm not going to let you die," Luci said with an air of determination. We parked in front of a house I didn't recognize.

"Where are we?" I asked, looking around.

"I booked an Air BnB while you were sleeping on the plane. I figured we wouldn't be out of there until late. Come on," he said as he got out of the car and came around to open my door for me.
