We walked outside hand in hand as we strolled along the sidewalk. It was a nice evening. The sun was lower in the sky, signaling the coming sunset. The air wasn't too hot or too cool.
"Where are we going?" I asked. Luci only smiled at me without answering. A random guy came up to me, handing me a Rose. I thanked him before glancing at Luci suspiciously.
"Just keep going," Luci smiled. A little further down a woman handed me another rose. Then there was another and another and another. Luci followed closely behind as I was handed a dozen roses. When we got to the square, a woman with a flower booth took my flowers and wrapped them up in a bouquet, adding in a gold dipped rose, before handing it back to me. I turned to ask Luci what was going on but stopped when I saw him down on one knee. My hand went over my mouth as my other arm cradled my rose bouquet. I knew he said he would propose but I had no idea he meant right now.
"Megan, you know what comes next. That gold rose will never die, and neither will my love for you. Be my queen and stay by my side. Marry me," he said as he opened a soft turquoise blue ring box to expose the most beautiful ring I'd ever seen. I felt my eyes water and quickly blamed it on my hormones. The sunset came at the perfect time.
"Luci, when did you have time to plan all of this?" I asked, shocked.
"I ordered the ring and roses on the plane back. When you were in the shower I put my plan in motion. But you still haven't answered my question," he reminded me. I giggled and nodded.
"Of course, my answer is yes," I smiled at him. He stood and pulled me into a hug as he kissed my cheek. The crowd that gathered around us began clapping and cheering as flashes went off. He took the ring out of the box and slid it onto my finger. He wrapped an arm around my waist and pecked me gently. Anything more and he would probably sprout wings right in the middle of the crowd. He took my hand in his before we walked along the shops. He stopped at a tea shop and we went in. It was empty but Luci pulled out a chair for me anyway. I sat and waited as he sat across from me.
"I called ahead and reserved the shop," he answered my unsaid question. A server came out and set a cake in the middle of our table before setting a cup of tea in front of each of us. I sipped my cup gingerly as Luci cut a slice of cake for me.
"How are you feeling?" Luci asked as I took a bite of cake. It was fluffy, light and not too sweet.
"Pretty normal actually, and a lot better for some reason. I had no idea what was going on," I admitted.
"I'm glad," he smiled before taking a bite of his own cake. When we finished eating, we went back to the District. There was already a line to go to the club. We didn't go the back way this time. I think Luci just wanted to show me off as much as possible today. He greeted the people in line as we passed them and went to the front. Luci was holding my bouquet of roses for me as he held my hand. He led me up to the second floor and sat me down in the platinum section before sitting next to me.
"What are we doing here?" I asked curiously. Rose walked into the section and smiled when she saw us.
"Megs! Let me see, let me see!" She smiled as she rushed over and grabbed my left hand. I hadn't even gotten a proper look at the ring yet, and I didn't really need to.
"Oh my gosh! This is the new Schlumberger collection from Tiffany isn't it?" Rose asked. I stared at her with wide eyes.
"It is," Luci chuckled.
"How do you know that?" I asked. She shrugged.
"I'm subscribed to the email list. I always imagined my engagement ring would come in a little mint colored box," Rose said dreamily. I rolled my eyes and smiled at my friend. "What would y'all like to drink?" She asked.
