You always thought that the Serpents were a gang of criminals who had no regard for actual human contact. You felt bad for most of them because they lived in tents and old beaten up trailers. And, to be honest when you heard that they were going to be joining Riverdale High; you were more than frightened. You've only seen them as rowdy teenagers who like to fight people from the north side. You tried to keep an unbiased opinion because there were always two sides to a story, but they came to your home and fought in the streets with your friends and then boyfriend. But, you met Toni Topaz and Fangs Fogarty, they changed your perspective on the gang. They were brilliant and kind. Not at all how you used to imagine them.
"Hey, T," you smile at the pink haired girl at your locker.
"Hey, Y/N... We are having a small party at the Wyrm tonight and so I wanted to invite you," she said. "Fangs will be there, so will Jughead and the others. You won't be alone with people you don't know."
"That sounds great," you have a little hesitation in your voice though. "What's the party for?"
"We are celebrating Cheryl becoming a Serpent," she explained. "She is quite the extraordinaire."
"Believe me, I know," you shake your head. "I will definitely be there. I do have one more question though... Will there be alcohol? I have had the worst week known to humanity."
"Of course," she laughed. "What's up?" You shut your locker to lean against it. "Y/N?"
"You know how Chuck and I broke up? Well I found out that he had put me in this disgusting book that the football players all use," you sigh. "It like rates girls on their hotness and if they boned or not."
"That's sick," she gave a sympathetic smile. "We can get back at him... If you want?"
"No," you sigh. "I'm just tired of going out with guys who are jerks."
"Well, then you are definitely going to the party," Cheryl said coming up behind Toni. "We will pull you out of your horrendous rut you've gotten yourself into. Let's go, T.T we have things to do." She held her hand out.
"She already said she was," Toni shook her head as she grabbed her beloved's hand. "We will see you there." You nod as the two walk away.
"They are really cute," you sigh sadly walking to the lounge. You spot Archie and Betty at the couch. "Hey guys."
"Hi," they say slowly. Betty gives you sad eyes. "I heard about the book, are you alright?"
"No," you sigh. "How can I be? We went out for months... And he was just using me and he went out with other girls the whole time."
"Who?" Fangs makes you nearly jump out of your skin. He chuckled and sits across from you as Jughead sits with Betty.
"Chuck," Archie explained. "He put Y/N in a book that the older football players made and it rated how good looking she is and if they..." He trails off when he looks at you.
"The book is filled with other girl's names and what they were rated. It's disgusting and I even found out that he was with multiple girls during the entire time we dated," you explain. "He also rated me a seven. The whole thing was just to get points."
"That's... Y/N," Fangs sighed. "Everyone in this school are jackasses and horny all the time."
You laugh and nod, "Yeah."
"How are you gonna get back at him?" You give Fangs a look. "What? On the north side, revenge isn't allowed? Let me tell you, my bud Sweet Pea and I would never let that go by."
"He has a point," Jughead agreed. "You should get back at Chuck and the whole team."
"Hey!" Archie whined. "I was not apart of that."
"You know... I can't believe that Reggie had something to do with that," you sigh. "He was my friend."
"Talking about me?" As if on some cue, Reggie Mantle comes up smirking. "Hey, Y/N."
"Jughead, can I borrow your drink?" You ask and he nods passing it to you. "Reggie... I am disgusted by you. I cannot believe that you of all people were part of that disgusting book!" You pour the drink on him in rage. "Using those poor girls just to rack up points for a stupid game? And letting Chuck use me? I thought we were friends? Remember that? God, I don't ever want you to speak to me again!"
"Y/N," he sighed wiping his face with his shirt. You could hear nearby snickering from other students. "Look."
"Don't. Reggie, I thought I could trust you. You consoled me after Chuck broke up with me and every time we fought! But, it turns out you're no better," you spat. "I hate you, Reggie Mantle." You throw the cup at his feet and walk out of the lounge with Betty on your heels.
"Wait," Betty called trying to catch up with you. "That was amazing, Y/N. You stood up for every girl in that book by doing that."
"Well I feel stupid," you sigh. "I shouldn't have done that in front of everyone. I am just pulling more drama in and now everyone is going to say that I am crazy or something."
"No," she shook her head. "They won't. I won't let them and neither will Jughead or Archie. We are gonna do a piece in the Blue and Gold. It's gonna get shut down."
"Thanks, Betty," you sigh going into the girls restroom. You felt so overwhelmed. You were angry and sad. "I can't believe that I let him do that to me, I'm so stupid. He said he changed."
"It's not your fault," Betty said. "Really."
"It is though. I trusted him. I trusted Reggie. I trusted them all because they told me too," you cry. "What is wrong with me?"
"Nothing," she wraps her arms around you. "Y/N/N... It's not your fault. He's just a bad guy."
(Y/N/N is your nickname btw... lol...) You feel tears brim your eyes as she tries her best to comfort you. "Hey... It's gonna be alright. Are you coming to the party tonight?" You nod. "Good. We are gonna have a good time."
You go home and change into something a little slutty and curl your hair. You knew that some people from school outside your small friend group were gonna be there and you needed to show that you are alright. Even though you weren't. You wanted to be though. You were strong and didn't need to be upset over a few stupid jocks. You meet Betty and Jughead at the front of the Wrym and they eye you.
"Showing that I am not one to be upset over a dumb jock," you shrug. "For all I care, Chuck and his friends can fuck off. I have no affiliation with them."
"Good for you," Jughead said. "Just don't be bothered by the older guys in the front."
"At least I'd be getting some sexual attention," you shrug and they give a scared look. "Joking guys."
"Let's go then," Jughead coughs like most men do in weird conversations. You follow him in and to the bar. "Hey, Toni."
"Hey guys! Welcome to the Wrym, Y/N," she smiled. "You look..."
"Hot," Cheryl finished. "Damn, who knew there was a girl under all those hoodies and sweaters." You roll your eyes. "Thanks for coming to my party."
"If we didn't you would crucify us," Jughead chuckled. "Where's Fangs and Sweet Pea?"
"Playing pool," Toni points to a table. "Sweet Pea is getting cocky."
"When isn't he?" Betty laughed.
"Which is Sweet Pea?" You ask following their gaze. "The tall guy?"
"You don't know Sweets?" Toni gasped. "How?" You shrug. "Well, come on then. I will thoroughly introduce you."
"You don't have to," you laugh as she pulls you to the table. "Hi Fangs."
"Hey sis," he waves. "I'm in the middle of losing the seventh time in a row to this jackass."
"I heard," you chuckle.
"Sweet Pea this is Y/N. Y/N this is Sweet Pea. I noticed the two of you haven't been introduced which makes no sense to me," Toni said.
"Hey." The two of you said awkwardly.
"You know... I am pretty good at pool," you say. "My dad taught me when I was young." (I know nothing about pool, but I am doing the research... Tryna impress him)
"I doubt you could beat me," he shook his head. "I'm the best around here."
"You wanna bet? I am in the mood for a little fun," you say giving him a daring smirk.
"You really wanna play me?" He asked chuckling.
"You afraid to lose against a northsider or a girl? Or both?" You tease. You had a secret competitive side that you tried to hide most of the time.
"Serious trash talk is going on here," Veronica said coming up to the table. "I will attest that Y/N has beaten my friends from New York as well. Won big money."
"She beat my dad," Archie shrugs.
"Fine," Sweet Pea gave in. "Don't cry when I crush you though." He looks you up and down. "What happens if you win?"
"I say if I win you have to..." You look at the others for help.
"If she wins you have to buy her drinks," Fangs said. "And, make sure Chuck Clayton and his friends leave her alone."
"Chuck Clayton? What does he want with you?" Sweet Pea chuckled.
"He recently used me for points in his sex playbook," you say. "We were dating for months and he was with other girls the entire time." He bit his lip and didn't say anything. "If you win?"
"Are you the one who poured her drink on Mantle today?" He asked amused and you nod. "Nice."
"What do I do if you win?" You ask again.
"Hm... If I win, you have to go around with your preppy Northsider friends wearing a Serpent jacket," he shrugs. "I think it'd be funny."
"Fine," you shrug. "Let's get this over with then..." Fangs passes you his stick and you thank him. "Rack em up."
"You have an odd sense of testosterone," Cheryl sighs. "You need anything because I am gonna need a drink."
"Get me something strong," you say.
"Can you get me a tonic?" Veronica asks.
"Oh and can I get-," Jughead starts.
"I was being polite learn to get off your ass," Cheryl rolled her eyes. "I'll bring you a drink though, you have to beat this narcissistic cocky bean stalk."
"Thanks," Sweet Pea rolled his eyes. "I'll let you break." You nod getting your stick and chalking the tip. You break the rack. You get stripes and he gets solids. He was pretty good at the game and obviously liked to gloat about how good he actually was.
"Better than I thought," you shrug taking a sip of the drink Cheryl brought you. "Finally a run for my money."
"Don't doubt people based on where they were brought up," he shrugs as he lands another ball in the pocket. "Thought they taught you something like that in school?"
"They did," you nod. "But, if you haven't noticed yet, we are a bunch of pretentious assholes. We don't really notice the other people." He shakes his head as he draws his stick back. "That's why 95% of the guys at the school are shit and have big dick energy even though they are well below average."
"All of them?" Fangs asks. "Are below average?"
"I wouldn't say below," Archie shrugged. "I think she was just trying to break them down."
"Really?" Cheryl rolled her eyes. "And they are all dumb as a dead stick."
"Fangs fits right in then," Sweet Pea joked. "You're pretty good at the game yourself." You laugh as you get two balls in.
"Eating your own words, huh? About underestimating people from the other side of the tracks?" You ask smugly. "I think we are starting a revelation."
"Guess I'm gonna be buying you drinks then?" He asked and you raise an eyebrow.
"I'm not into to the pre-celebration. I'd feel pretty bad if I were to gloat then lose," you shrug. "Besides we're tied."
"Humble? Didn't expect that from a northsider," he says. "Especially after meeting Cheryl." You hide your laugh with a cough, but you know he sees through it. "I honestly thought Betty might be the only one."
"Offended," Veronica scoffs.
"Please, you aren't humble," Jughead laughed. "You make it known when you want something and when you got it."
"Touché Jughead," she sighed sitting next to Archie. "This is getting super boring."
"Agreed," Betty and Toni say.
"You guys need to hurry the game up," Fangs clapped. "Just kick some ass."
"Who are you talking to?" Toni asked.
"Does it matter? As long as one of them wins?" He asked and you shake your head. "Come on, you can do it. And other fatherly antidotes."
"Why not just call it even?" Betty reasoned. "Sweet Pea will buy her drinks and she will wear a Serpent jacket to school. It will end the game and there will still be some dignity left in them."
"I second the motion," Cheryl said. "This celebration was supposed to be about me."
"Yeah," Jughead nods. "Let's just call it a truce."
"Fine," you both say. "Truce?" You hold out you hand and he laughs. "Shake or call a fore fit." He laughed but shook your hand.
"You aren't too bad," he offered. "You should play on my team next time."
"As long as I don't cheated somehow, then I'm game," you joke. "You aren't too bad yourself either. I'm not sure how we haven't met before."
"Opposing schedules," he shrugged. "Don't go overboard on drinks, I'm no Mantle. Money is an object."
"I promise," you say. "I think I'm just gonna go for a glass of water after this anyways."
"At least let me buy you one drink," he said. "So, I can feel like I actually fulfilled my end of the deal."
"Fine," You nod. "Just one. Your choice too." He gives you a look and you shrug. "I don't know names of drinks or even what I like."
"Fine. I will be back with your drink," he said walking to the bar.
"You two are so hitting it off," Veronica smirks at you. "I see love in the air."
"What?" You laugh.
"Don't act like it's not there," Fangs said. "We all see it." You roll your eyes and look back at the raven haired serpent across the bar. He was cute to say the least. Though he had a hard exterior you could see the softness in his eyes. He wasn't as bad as he put himself out to be. His smile is like a burst of happiness as if he doesn't do it often. It made you think of what his life was at home.
"You're drooling," Veronica teased. "He's coming back, don't be too obvious."
"Sh," You hissed as he approached with two drinks. "You didn't lace my drink did you?"
"Is that an actual thing?" He asked confused.
"It is," you nod taking the glass. "We've had a few incidents."
"Well, I did not," he said. "That's not cool."
"No it's not," you agree. "Chuck did it... To the other girls." You sigh taking a long drink. "Nick did it to Cheryl and V..."
"You are a blast," Sweet Pea laughed. "Really, I'm not sure what I like better, the girl who talks about how awful guys are or the one who pours drinks on guys."
"I knew that would bite me in the ass," you sighed. "It was a burst of adrenaline, you know? I was so angry at Chuck for doing what he did. But, I was friends with Reggie. And it kinda hurt more."
"I'm not judging," Sweet Pea clarified. "I'm just sorry you didn't get to do worse. What they did was gross. But, I don't think you bringing it up all the time, is going to help you get over it."
"Probably not..."
The rest of the night went a lot like that. Sweet Pea would yell everyone time you tried to bring up Chuck or Reggie and you would thank him for not letting you. You actually became really close by the end of the night, laughing and able to talk to each other without the witty or sarcastic comments. And when Monday came, you found a note on your locker and inside was a Serpent jacket.
Gotta do your part of the deal. I figured I'd leave this for you. SP
You shake your head and pull the jacket out. It was large and warm which made the day a little better because you forgot your coat. It was snowing out and you were running late. It had the sweet smell of charcoal and nature with the faint smell of leather. It was kinda enticing. Everyone watched you as you walked down the hall, flaunting the new jacket.
"Y/N," Reggie pulled you aside quickly. "What the hell are you doing? Wearing that?"
"What do you mean?" You sigh annoyed.
"That snakes jacket," he says. "You're a bulldog. Not a Serpent."
"Really? I thought bulldogs were there for each other, I thought they were loyal? What happened to that, when Chuck was using me? When you guys put me in that disgusting playbook? Just because I grew up a bulldog means I need to stay one. They are a lot better the rest of you anyways," you say pulling your arm from his grip.
"You think you can just trade sides?" He asked viciously. "You are a Northsider, Y/N. You can't just throw that away. You grew up a prissy, whiny princess and a jacket isn't gonna change that."
You were gonna say something, but before you could someone was in front of you knocking Reggie over, "Oh my god! Sweet Pea?"
"What the hell?" Reggie yelled. "You think you can do that here? On bulldog territory?"
"You afraid to fight your own battles, Mantle?" Sweet Pea asked. "Is that why you go along with everyone else? Back the hell off of her, or next time it's not gonna be as pretty."
"What is going on?" Toni asked. "Sweet Pea?"
"Reggie was just apologizing to Y/N," He replied looking down at the football player. "And he's gonna leave her alone, along with the other pricks."
"Fuck off," Reggie rolled his eyes. "You really are a cunt."
"Fuck you," you slap him as hard as you could. It rings through the hall and through your hand. Everyone falls silent watching. "Get the hell away from me Reggie. Now."
"Damn," Sweet Pea chuckled as Reggie storms off. "You even know how to hit."
"I know how to do a lot of things," you smirk. "Thanks for standing up for me."
"Hey, I wasn't gonna let that jerk disrespect someone just as good at pool as me," he said. "And, I wanted to see if you wanted to go to Pop's with me after school? Not a hook up. I'm not that kinda guy."
"I'd love to," you smile. "I'll bring your jacket. Now, I gotta get to class before something else starts."
