The world is composed of opposing sides. No matter what the circumstances, there is always an opposing view. People only see what they want to. They only hear what they believe they should hear. Things mostly never end well. Much like Frost said in his poem, the world can either end in fire or ice. You watch as your boyfriend talks with his ex as they walk down the hall. She aimlessly runs her fingers down his arm and flips her raven hair over her shoulder. You never minded Veronica. She wasn't always bad. She has good intentions with most of the things she does. But, watching her with him made your blood boil.
"Hey beauty," Reggie smiles as he pulls you in. "What's on your mind?"
"Just my mom," you shrug. "I think she's hiding something."
"You talk to Jughead about it?" He asked and you shake your head. "Well, you should. He is your brother."
"I know. He's just got a lot on his plate right now and I can't add more," you sigh. "You want to grab a bite after school?"
"I can't," he sighed. "I have work but I'll call you after." You pout. "You can't do this every day."
"But, I don't like you going off with your ex. I don't want her to use you again," you sigh.
"I know babe," he sighed. "We are still friends though. She isn't going to do anything with me. Promise." You look away as his fingers grab your chin. "Come on baby. I gotta work. Give me a kiss."
   "Why?"
"Fine," he backed off a little. "I'll just go then."
"Wait," You sigh grabbing his shirt and pulling him in. You kiss him roughly and passionately. Wringing your hands through his hair and down his arms. His hands hold your waist tightly and you hear whistles of passing by students.
"That was intense for a goodbye kiss," he chuckled as you pull away.
"Gives you something to think about while you're working," you smile. "And something for her to go off of."
"Bye babe," he chuckled before leaving a chaste kiss on your forehead. "I love you."
"I love you too," you smile widely watching him walk away.
"You two are disgusting," Sweet Pea says from behind you. "I love you. I love you too. You said it like seven times." You roll your eyes as you fix your bag on your shoulder. "You tell him yet?"
"No," you snap. "And, I can't risk someone here saying something to him; so shut up."
"Calm down, this school doesn't care about our crap. They care what's going on with prom and who's going to get laid next. You cannot keep putting it off, Y/N. You have to tell him. He can help you and if you don't do something soon. Someone is going to get hurt."
"Help me?" You stop. "I don't need his help. I can find someone else. I don't want him getting hurt or something. She already took his car. He robbed his dad and was shot for it. All because of of my mother. I don't want him having to go through that."
"Well, if you get hurt. He won't forgive himself."
"I know. Neither will Jug," you sigh. "I haven't told him yet either. I don't know how."
"It will be fine," Pea reassured you. "He already knows your mom's bad news. All you have to do is tell him the rest. You have to at least tell Jughead."
"How do you even start that conversation?" You ask. "Hey, you know how moms a drug dealer and wants to build her empire here? Well, she threatened to kill me if I told you this but she also is using all of us. She is getting under dad's skin to use his power as sheriff by JB. And she also threatened you and all of your friends."
   "It's a start."
"You are delusional," you groan. "Honestly, there are no right words to say that. I don't even know how to start that conversation."
"You told me," Pea pointed out as the two of you opened the doors to his truck. "It wasn't hard then." You give him a look.
"That was a different circumstance," you remind him. "I was just ran off the road by someone who worked for my mother and flipped my car. You were the first to answer."
"Is that not another reason to tell your brother? You know he will kill her," He said. "That is, if Reggie doesn't first."
"I am so proud that you can say his name now," you smirk. "It's really come to brighten my mood."
"I bet," he sighed. "What was the excuse? The one you gave for flipping your car?"
"I told everyone that a deer ran out in front of me and I hit a rock which caused the car to flip," you explain. "It's what I came up with when dad asked." He nods while keeping his eyes directed in front of him. "I couldn't tell him the truth both in fear for losing my life and I didn't want to hurt him."
"Alright," He nods again. "You gonna be alright being at home alone?"
You think for a second. Since the incident you haven't wanted to be alone. You were scared, so you've had Reggie stay with you on days Jughead was busy and you had been able to go to a friends place other days. But today everyone was busy, "yeah, I'll be alright Pea." He pulls in front of your new home and gives you a questioning look.
"Okay... Well, if there's a problem call me. I'll leave," he said.
"Don't be such a worrier, Pea. She won't do anything while I'm home. It's when I'm out, alone. And, don't worry I'll call you or Jug," you say pushing your door open. "Thanks for the ride. I'll see ya later."
"Yep," He said as you close the door. You make your way up the stairs and to your room. You're extremely careful when walking through the house so you don't run into your mother. You shut your door behind you and sit on your bed. Sweet Pea was right earlier; you needed to tell someone.
A knock was sounded on the door, "Hey Y/N what do you want for dinner?" You give your mother a small shrug. "Guess we will call your dad then. How's that head?" She gestures to your healing gash on your forehead.
"It's fine," you say. "You know there are a lot of people who don't survive rolls like that. Especially when someone is trying to run you off the road."
"Well it knocked your head straight didn't it?" She asked. "Next time you won't be so lucky. Gotta be more careful."
You roll your eyes and scoff, "how about you be more careful, when you hire someone to run your daughter off the road. I knew the guy, mom. It's the same kid you hired to shake down Fangs."
"I told you there would be consequences for your actions, girl. You better watch that tone and remember who you're talking to. I'm your mother," she said. "And there are a lot worse things then a kid running your car off the road."
"At least now I can have a warning. I also want you to know that you aren't going to get away with all of this. Eventually more people are going to catch on to your act. You aren't as good at playing mother of the year as you are at playing the bitch," you say.
"You're lucky that I don't smack that content smirk off your little face," she shook her head. "And for that remark you can sleep with the dogs tonight because I sure as hell am not letting a spoiled brat stay in my home."
"But I thought it was the family home?" You say. "And honesty, I would love to stay outside then stay another second in this house with the embodiment of satan herself." You stand up and gather up your purse then throw on your jacket.
"Satan would be lucky to have me," she said as you passed and she grabs you. "I think you have something of mine." You scrunch your eyebrows and her hand takes your phone and keys. "These are mine."
"Take them," you spat. "Anything else?" Her hand swings at your face causing you to fall back slightly. You grab your face.
"I should cut your tongue out for that tone," she said. "Get the hell out of my house."
"Gladly. I'm going to find Dad and tell him everything. You aren't getting away with any of this." You smile sweetly before running down the steps and out the door, slamming it behind you. "She's going to ruin that family and I don't know how to stop it. What am I going to do?" You could smell rain in the air and hear the discreet thunder in the distance. "Of fucking course! Why wouldn't it fucking storm?" You sigh throwing your jacket over your head as you walked down the sidewalk. You didn't know where you were going to go, but walking helped cool your anger. Rain poured around you soaking your entire body. You gave up on keeping your head dry as you pass the school. You found a small dry spot near the front door and sat there watching the down pour. You could barely see in front of you from it. You could imagine the river overflowing soon and unveiling new secrets of the town. Your old trailer becoming soaked because of the fire soaked holes. The south side was probably a soupy mess right now especially with the old trailer park gone. Car lights in the distance cause you to break from your head as it pulls into the empty parking lot. Two tall male figures step out. One of them being the one that ran you off the road so many nights ago. You stand quickly and run down the concrete into the courtyard. Every step you took was like stepping on soap on tile.
"You know I thought running you off the road would shut you up. Obviously, I was wrong. What's it gonna take? Maybe I should just do Gladys the favor by getting rid of you."
Your foot slips from under you and you fall to the sopping ground, "why do her the favor? You know I'm her daughter right? My dad and brother know where I am."
"Do they?" He asked. He didn't run or even walk fast paced. He just chuckled as he stalked towards you. "Your mom has your phone dumbass. No one knows where you are and they won't find you after I'm done."
"Really, you want that on your conscious? Killing a teenage girl? I haven't graduated high school or even went to prom yet. You want to take the life of someone who hasn't even been able to live yet?" You ask trying to stall him. "What about you?" You look at the other guy who stood a few feet behind. "Do you want to take the life of a teenager? A daughter? Friend?"
"Shut up," the first guy snapped. "You aren't getting to me, so save it." He pulled you off the ground. "Now, let's take that tongue." His hand grabs your face forcing your mouth open as his other flicked his switchblade open.
"Dude," the other guy said. "Do you want to do this here? At the school?" He seemed unsure by the sound of his voice. "She's just a kid."
"Get the hell out of here then! I'll take care of her! Since you're so scared! Go!" He shouts as his grip tightens on your face and the blade connects with your cheek and tears fall down your face. "Oh don't worry, you'll be numb after the first five cuts." He had wickedness in his smile and voice. "Where's that Jones smart tongue now?" You try to push him off, but feel his knife slice at your face and soon you taste metal. You let out a scream and he hits you. "Shut the hell up!" You fall to the ground. Your face sore and bleeding. Tears fell from your eyes as you struggled to get up. He grabs your ankles and pulls you back. "You can't keep your mouth shut, can you?" He said as you let out another scream. His foot connects with your face pushing back into the ground. Your vision blacks and your ears are ringing as you lay in the puddle of mud. His foot connects with your side now and you couldn't let out a noise. The second boy pulls him away. You hear him say something about you being dead but that's all.
You wait for the sound of the car to fade before you push yourself off the ground. Everything was hurting and you were freezing. You could barely see as you stumble into the old diner. You could feel warmth wrap around you. Someone had a hand on your shoulder and was trying to talk to you.
"Y/N?" Betty is in front of you confused. "Oh my god, someone get help." She try's to help you into a booth as you faintly see people rush around you. "Y/N, can you hear me? What happened to you?" The room spun around you as you tried to close your eyes. "No, don't shut your eyes... Okay? Jughead will be here soon and so will help. You cannot shut your eyes."
"What is going on?" You hear Veronica ask coming from the speakeasy. "Oh my... Reggie!" Something cold touches your face and you try to push it off.
"It's ice for your face. Are you hurt anywhere else?" Betty asked. The bells ring sending more vibrations through your head. "Can you open your mouth? She isn't responding, Jug. We called for help. They said they will get here as soon as they can. She walked in like this."
"Who is it?" You hear Reggie ask. You couldn't see and everything was muffled by the ringing in your ears, but evidently your eyes were open.
"You need to back up," Jughead orders. You hear urgency in his voice and something you couldn't make out. "Everyone, now!" You feel a hand on your wrist. It hurts. You try to open your mouth but that hurts too. Someone is behind you now their arms are wrapped around your shoulders and they are saying something in your ear.
"Y/N," Reggie says into your ear. "You gotta keep your eyes open. I know you want to shut them and rest, but you can't. Please, keep your eyes open for me baby. Please don't shut them." You wanted to tell him that you were trying but you didn't know your eyes were open. You wanted to comfort his broken voice. "You'll be okay. I promise. We're taking you to the hospital. I love you Princess. Please keep it together for me. For Jughead and your dad. Your mom." She was the reason you were like this.
"What the hell even happened to her?" You hear Jughead ask. "I thought you took her home Pea?"
"I did," Sweet Pea says. "She went inside. Your mom must've..."
"My mom must've what?" Jughead asked. "What were you going to say, Sweet Pea?"
"Your mom... She threatened Y/N. Y/N found out about her plans and confronted your mom. Which obviously your mother didn't like. She was scared to tell you both. She didn't want it to be something else you had to worry about. I told her to tell you. She must've had another confrontation today."
"You knew that my mother threatened her life and you didn't tell me yourself?" Jughead was angry for sure. "What the hell?"
"I couldn't. She had to tell you," Pea argued. "You didn't tell her about what you know!"
"Whatever. Let's get her in the truck and to the hospital," Jughead said. "Reggie... Can you carry her?" You feel movement and then you're being rained on again. That's all you remember after that.
"She's waking up," you hear as you slowly open your eyes. Light burned them as you look around a hospital room. You try to open your mouth but can't. You look at your dad confused. "Hey baby you can't open your mouth just yet. They had to wrap it shut because it's broken." You try to sit up and feel sharp pain in your side. "You also had a broken rib, I'm so sorry baby. What happened? Who did this to you?"
You look at Jughead now, "Dad. Mom did this. We told you. She had one of her minions do it." You look back at your dad with sad eyes. "Don't do this here, she just woke up."
"Sorry that I am just trying to put together pieces. I do not understand why the two of you kept this from me. Now look where you ended up!" You flinch from the noise. "Sorry. Someone should go tell Reggie you're up. He hasn't left since. I'll be right back."
"Alright," Jughead said as he sat next to you and waited for the door to shut. "Alright. Remember when we used to talk without talking? When we were young?" You nod. "Start talking." You sigh and look at your hands. "Please." You look at him and sign out everything that happened. Of course it was real sign language, but it wasn't exactly fake either. You only made up a few phrases so. "Okay. Nod yes or no if I get this right. Mom and JB were talking in the bathroom?" You shake your head. "Bedroom?" Nope. "Kitchen?" You nod. "Alright. And they want to lose dad?" You shake your head and grab a pen. U-S-E. "Okay. She wants to use dad for his job?" You nod. "You confronted her and then she hired someone to run you off the road? Then she had the same guy go and try to kill you?" You nod. "God. I can't even believe. I'm so sorry Jinx." You give him an annoyed look. "Sorry did that bother you? Jinxie?" You swing at him. "Oh stop it." He chuckled.
"Hey babe," Reggie sighed opening the door. "How do you feel?"
"She's in pain, but she's happy you're here," Jughead said. "She's really happy that you're here, right Jinx?"
"Jinx?" Your dad chuckled. "Haven't heard that in a while."
"I think we should give them a minute, dad," Jughead said. "Come on." You watch them walk away.
"Hi," Reggie said. "You scared me. You know? I thought I never was gonna hear your laugh again. Or your voice. Hear you pout because I have to go to work. I thought I wasn't going to see your smile anymore. I thought you were going to leave me and I wanted to say how much I love you. Because even with how we last said goodbye it wasn't enough for me. I wanted more. I wanted to feel your lips again. Kiss you. I wanted to hear your voice, while I was sitting outside in those ratty chairs, so bad. I listened to that voicemail. The one where you angry and drunk. When you confessed that you loved me and you were just scared to say it back. And you told me that you hated the way that I was so cocky." He chuckled. "I love you, Y/N. And I'm sorry that you couldn't tell me what's going on with your mom. And that I couldn't be there to protect you from..." you grab his hand. "And honestly I cannot wait for them to unwrap your face and hear you complain."
"Romantic," you whisper though it hurt. He kissed your forehead softly.
"They are going to figure out what to do with your mom," Reggie said. "And while that's happening you're staying with me. My parents are out of town. And obviously I hear no objections." You roll your eyes. "I love you." You hold onto his hand tighter. "You should sleep. You've been in and out of surgery for the last few days. You were very beat up and hypothermic." What day is it then? "It's Monday."
   "Monday?" He nods. "School?"
"It's gonna be fine," he said. "You'll be fine. And your mom isn't going to hurt you anymore."
