You and Jughead were friends. Friends since you were five years old blowing snot bubbles because it was funny. You've countless sleep overs and make overs, on his side of course. You loved each other no doubt, but when he got with Betty things changed. She didn't like you, though she put on her fake act when she was in front of you. Jughead tossed you aside like trash, but you didn't blame him. He just wanted Betty and you understood, not truly but you wanted to. For his sake at least.
"Hey Y/N," Sweet Pea calls down the halls of Southside High. "What are you doing?"
"Getting my shit and leaving?" You give him a weird look. "It's the end of the day, Pea, what else am I supposed to be doing?"
"Well, we are transferring to Riverdale High," he smiled. "You didn't hear? We are all going to celebrate."
You shut you locker and give him a huge smile, "Really? Transferring? Like to a school where teachers aren't drug dealers and we are gonna get a real education?" He nods. "Oh my god!" You throw your arms around his neck and he chuckled.
"Come on," he says. "Let's go find Fangs." You nod and jump on his back. "God, you're crazy."
"No, I'm just a little psycho," you laugh. "It's fun to have that side." You spot Fangs at his locker. "Fangs Fogarty!" He looks up confused. "We are in the age of celebration!"
"What's going on?" He laughed. "You look like you've won the lottery."
"We did," you say jumping down. "We are getting transferred to Riverdale High." He smiled. "A real school!"
   "Really?" You both nod.
"Celebrating tonight," Sweet Pea says. "Let's get out of this shit hole."
"Let's go!" You shout tossing your bag to the side. "Let's raise some hell on that northsider town."
"Yeah!" They yell as the lot of you push out the door and see Toni and Jughead on the steps. "What's wrong with you?"
"Yeah, we are celebrating," Fangs said. "Come on man."
"It's nothing," Jughead sighed. "Let's get out of here." You give him a look. "Seriously. Let's go, Betty is waiting."
"Right," You nod. "Betty." Toni gives you a look. "Whatever, let's go boys." You pull on your friends jackets. "We gotta get the booze."
"Then, let's go," Sweet Pea said with a wicked smile. That was the start of your hook ups. You kept it a secret for a while. Wasn't anyone else's business. Until, Reggie Mantle called Sweet Pea out for sleeping with some chick.
"Yo, back the hell off," you snap at the bulldog. "It wasn't Sweet Pea."
"Yeah? How would you know?" He crosses his arms and raises an eyebrow. "Don't you have a drug to go take? Or a dick to ride?"
You laugh, "Yeah, his, now back the fuck off you flea filled mutt. Before I climb up there cut that cute little smirk off your face."
"You'd like that wouldn't you? To climb on me? Stop with the snakes and you can have whatever you want from me," he winked and you roll your eyes.
"I'm a snake, you dick," you point to the jacket and then your tattoo.
"Doesn't mean you have to stick with them. Let me show you a real ride," he said. "You'll never go back to a snake again."
"You wanna shut up, Mantle," Jughead rolled his eyes. "Let's go, Y/N."
"Go cry to your girlfriend, Jones," Mantle rolled his eyes. "This ain't with you, it's with this whore."
"You wanna say that again?" Pea asked and he flicked his blade out. "I dare you."
"Sweet Pea!" Jughead shouts. "Stand down." He held his hand up. "Get the hell out of here, Reggie, before it starts something no one can finish." Reggie just laughs before backing away.
"The offer stays for you though," Reggie looks you up and down with a smirk. "Call me if you ever want to have real fun."
"Back off," Jughead said and turns to Sweet Pea. "Let's go."
"Really? What's your problem, Jones?" Sweet Pea looked the kid down and Jughead just give him a look of anger. "Fine." He shoves past the group, including yourself. Later that night you try talking to him, but all he does is blow you off. "I'm not feeling it, Y/N."
"Not feeling it? Is it because Reggie?" You ask confused.
"No," he said. "It's not because Mantle. It's you, you just aren't what I'm looking for, okay? I'm sorry, I just think we are better of just friends. We work better that way anyways." You furrow your eyebrows. "I'm hooking up with Josie."
With that you leave his trailer and go back to your own place, tears of rage and betrayal all over your face. You slam the door shut and throw yourself on the couch in anger. You didn't know what to do. That happened months ago. And you were letting it get back to you now. At nine at night. You wanted to call someone. To get it off your chest, but Toni was off with Cheryl and Fangs wouldn't really understand. He was more friends with Pea anyways. Jughead has Betty.
And, you realize that maybe you shouldn't be a Serpent. You weren't hard, you didn't go off on fights and stuff. Sure, you had a little crazy side. But, that's it. Maybe, you should pull a Cooper and switch sides. You sigh, standing up to leave again. You weren't going to sit in a trailer alone and weep. You were gonna go to the new Speakeasy everyone talked about. You change into clothes that didn't look like rags. You pull your hair out of it's messy ponytail and even add a little light colored makeup.
"You look different," Reggie says as you lean against the bar. "What's wrong with you?"
"I'm different?" You shrug. "I am tired of the same old crap."
"What's wrong?" He asked and you shake your head. "Come on, I'm a bartender at a fake bar. I need something."
"I just felt alone this summer," you shrug. "I'm sure you know, but I kinda lost all of my friends to their girlfriends. So, I've been by myself a lot and I am just really tired of feeling down."
"I feel that," he nods. "All of your friends have girlfriends?" You nod. "Even Sweet Pea?" You nod again. "I really thought it would be you."
You laugh, "Please, Sweet Pea and I would've never made it long. We started hooking up when Southside High got shut down. He found a northsider."
"Northsiders are not all that great," he said. "Really, they are stuck up. You'd be better off with an out of towner."
"You know what sucks the most?" You look at him. "I was best friends with Jughead Jones some time ago. We grew up together, and he threw me away like trash. He barely even gives me a second look now, because Betty."
"Well, they are having trouble in paradise," Reggie gossips. "They have been fighting a lot. They don't even really, go out together a lot anymore."
   "Really?" You ask. "Why?"
"I guess Betty is tired of him going off and doing stupid shit," he shrugs. "I hear from Veronica."
"Stupid shit," you laugh. "That used to be me, she called me that."
    "Why?"
"Because, I would bring Jughead out to the river and we would hang out. I don't do crazy things that involve fighting. I like adrenaline," you explain. "So, we would find something to give us that. Betty never liked me, so she made excuses by calling our hang out times just him doing stupid shit. Eventually, she made him cut me out. So, now we only talk at Serpent meetings."
"Harsh," He says. "Didn't know Cooper really had that side."
"How do you explain, Dark Betty?" You ask with a laugh. "That's her way of showing Jughead she is the one for him. By having a bdsm side."
"Weird," Reggie said. "I am sorry for calling you a whore." You look up at him. "I called you a whore during school, I don't want that to be our relationship. Not that there is one, I just don't want you hailing me for it."
"I forgot," you admit. "But, apology accepted. I've been called way worse anyways."
"Me too," he chuckled. "You should go see him. He's home because Betty is here." He motions his head towards the blonde. "Go see him, show him what he's missing. Don't say I don't help." You roll your eyes before standing and giving him money. "You deserve it, I see you are hurt."
"You aren't an ass," you shrug. "Thanks, Mantle, I owe you." You get on your bike and drive to the Jones' trailer, knocking hardly on the door.
"Y/N," F.P says as he opens the door. "What's wrong?"
"Nothing," You shake your head. "I need to see Jug."
"He's not really in a good mood," the older Jones says. "Is there something I can help with?"
"No, I'm not in trouble and I know that's why I need to see him," you explain. "Can I come in?" He nods moving out of the way. "I haven't been in here since, I can't even remember."
"It has been a while, you were like two feet tall," he laughed.
"Dad who is it?" Jughead asked as he came down the short hall in pajamas. "Y/N? What are you doing here?"
"I came to see you," you explain. "I know I am probably not the one you wanted, but at least let me talk to you."
"I'll let the two of you be alone," F.P says grabbing his jacket and leaving.
"What do you need to talk about?" Jughead asked rubbing his face. "Did something happen?"
"If you count seven years ago when we stopped being friends," you say looking at him. "When you moved to Riverdale Elementary."
"What?" He gives you a confused look. "We are friends."
"No, Jug, we aren't. You know that," you say. "Sure we were kinda friends till high school started. Sure you would let me stay over, but I've been thinking lately that we weren't really friends. That was just us trying to keep together. But, lately, we stopped. A few years ago, you just cut me out. And, I was fine with it. You know why? Because, I tried to understand your side. You got a new girlfriend and she didn't like me. I understood that you just wanted her. And you loved her." You pause and let out a breath. "I didn't deserve it, Jug, I didn't. I have always been here for you. Even still after you threw me away like lint. I thought we were friends. I did. I loved you. I thought you loved me back, but.."
"What are you talking about?" He asked. "I never threw you away, Y/N, I just got a life. I got a girlfriend and I pushed most of my time to her."
"No," you sigh. "I know that Betty does not like me, Jug, I do. She told me once. She told me to stay away from you and I did. She told me that you didn't want me in your life. That really broke me." He furrows his eyebrows. "I respected your decisions, I tried to at least. But, you never had the audacity to actually tell me that you couldn't hang out anymore. You blew me off until I stopped asking."
"Y/N," he sat down. "I didn't know she told you that."
"Well she did," you say and you have to wipe your face. "I literally wanted to change everything about myself because I have been so alone in these last few months. I thought that maybe if I were different people wouldn't throw me away like they do now."
"I never," he starts. "I never meant to let you out of my life. I didn't want to, Y/N/N, I really didn't. I didn't want you out. I didn't want Betty to push you away. It was an accident." You laugh crossing your arms. "It was. It was a horrible accident. I loved being your friend. I loved you." You lose your bitterness now. "I did. Betty told me that you didn't. She told me that you liked someone else and she consoled me. And, now I am learning all of this. And, you wanted to change yourself because of me. I feel like shit."
"I liked someone else?" You ask. "I mean, I liked Pea... But, not anymore."
"I know," he sighed. "Believe me."
"Jug," You sigh and sit next to him. "What did she do?" He furrows his eyebrows in confusion. "What did Betty do to you, to cause this fight?"
"I started it," he sighed. "A long time ago, actually. She is great at bringing up old stuff and making it new. She brought up how I took off with Sweet Pea a couple months ago after school. I yelled at him."
   "For what?"
"Sleeping with you," he sighed. "She really didn't like that. And a couple days ago, I said I had to take something to your place. And she blew up."
"You yelled at Sweet Pea for hooking up with me? When?" You are confused as hell now.
"I don't know," he shrugged. "Before the fight when you outed it." You nod. "I'm sorry."
"No," you shake your head. "It's fine, but why?"
"I don't know, I was jealous that you liked him and not me," he sighed. "It's stupid."
"Jug," You say now looking him in the eyes. "Can I ask you something?" He nods. "Do you still?"
   "Yeah," he said. "I do."
"One more question," you say and stand up now. "Can I kiss you?" He nods again and you enlace your fingers at the back of his head and bring your face to his. His hands hold your waist pulling you closer. You felt so relieved when his lips started moving with your own.
When school started again, you were still the same person. You didn't change yourself and Jughead made sure you were always happy. He always comes behind you and wraps his arms around you. You see Betty watching from a distance and you feel kinda bad. But, you remember how she made you feel and you don't anymore. You were finally, truly happy.
"Good job," Reggie smiled at you. "I was right."
"Don't get cocky," you laugh. "But, you were. Thanks."
"No problem," he said. "And, I like this better than the northsider you."
    "Me too," Jughead smiled.
