Archie Andrews, the boy next door, the nice guy, there were so many names you could think of for him. One being red hot. He was your brother's friend so you couldn't even think of him like that. Reggie would kill him and then what would your eyes long to see? But, sometimes you couldn't help but think of the what if's. What if he never ran off to Canada? What if he never went out with Veronica? What if he didn't go through all of the things he went through? What if he was with you? But they were only 'what ifs' and you knew they probably could never be more. But, you wanted them to be.
"Y/N?" Archie waved a hand in front of your face. "Are you alright?" You jump in your chair and nod. "Sorry."
"No it's fine... I just was thinking about something," you shrug gathering your things. "Sorry."
"You seem different," he noticed. "You cut your hair after I left?" You nod. "Why?" You knew he was trying to make things less awkward.
"I just wanted a change," you shrug. "I got tired of the same old thing. I mean I'm not the same person I was two years ago, let alone two months ago."
"I understand that," he nods. "I feel like I have never felt more unlike myself." You give him a sad nod. "I was attacked by a bear and while I was asleep I had a strange dream. And when I woke up, it was like I couldn't be myself anymore... You probably don't wanna hear this." He rubbed the back of his neck.
"No," you say quickly. "I mean, don't stop talking. I don't mind." For being Reggie's younger sister, you definitely did not inherit the cool gene.
"I'm kinda on a quest to find myself," he shrugs. "I know school isn't really an option for me after graduation, but I don't know if I wanna spend my life doing construction."
"My dad wants me to go to business school," you say. "He wants me to follow in his footsteps, but I don't want to. He is always so tense and angry. I don't want that."
"Exactly," Archie nods. "Our parents don't really see the future we want." You nod. "You know, why don't you meet me at Pop's later? We can talk more."
   "Um, sure," you nod. "When?"
"Let's say around five," he suggests and you nod again. "Cool, I will see you then." You watch him walk away to his next class and you lean against the lockers in awe. He just asked you to dinner. Archie Andrews. The kid you've been in love with since you could remember.
"What were you doing talking to Archie?" Your brother comes up behind you making you jump.
"We were just talking," you shrug. "Why do you care?"
"Because, he is pretty messed up," Reggie argues. "Ever since he came back. He's been messed up and weird. You're my little sister and I am looking out for you."
"I can handle myself, Reg," you shake your head. "Besides, if I went through all of the stuff that he went through. I'd be the same way."
"Don't do that," he snapped. "You always do that. Those heart eyes and longing gaze with him. He's not good for you."
"How would you know?" You snap back. "Like I said, I can take care of myself. Don't you have somewhere to be?" Maybe you weren't as cool as Reggie, but you were as stubborn; maybe even more so.
"Nope," he popped the 'p' and smirked cockily. "I'm gonna stay right here and make sure you don't do something stupid."
"Someone should do that for you," you say. "You are always doing something stupid. Like doing beer runs for Veronica Lodge. Or burning drugs for Veronica Lodge. Or stealing cash for Veronica Lodge. Or keeping the red circle alive for Hiram Lodge. I think there's an reoccurring factor here." He crosses his arms angrily. "Calm down dad."
"Don't you ever compare me to him," Reggie had a threatening tone in his voice. "You know as well as I do that I am not as bad as him."
You sigh, "Reggie, I know. I'm sorry. I didn't even think... But, look I am old enough to make my own decisions now. I can't always have you breathing down my neck when I want to even speak to a guy. Let me make mistakes because if you don't I am gonna go off to school and not know what the hell to do."
"Make a mistake some other way," Reggie said. "He's just gonna use you to get back at me. He's bad news now."
"I'm not even doing anything with him. I am just speaking to him, trying to make him feel better," you explain. "That's all. I promise I won't let it get any farther."
"Fine," he sighed. "What did you bring for lunch?" You roll your eyes and reach in your bag to give him your pack of Oreos. "Thanks sis. See ya at home." He walked away leaving you to ponder on whether or not what he said could be true, about Archie. You throw your things into your locker and go to the schools yard with your headphones in. You lay in the grass and stare at the gray sky. You had always liked Archie, but if Reggie was right. That would break you. He could be using you. But, maybe it could be worth it. The rest of your day was you just wondering what you would do. Or what if Reggie was right. But, you still found yourself getting ready to go to the diner.
"Where are you going?" Reggie asked in your doorway.
   "Pops," you reply.
   "With?"
"Calm down 20 questions," you roll your eyes. "Will You give me a ride? I know you are going there anyways." He raises an eyebrow but nods.
"Hey, Archie," you greet the redhead with a warm smile as he approached the table.
"Hey, Y/N," he smiled back. "Sorry I'm late, I got caught up with my dad."
"It's fine," you wave it off. "So, what did you want to talk about?"
"Honestly? I don't know," he laughed. "I don't think I said this earlier, but I like your hair. It really brings out your face."
"Thanks," you run your fingers through it. "I'm sorry that things didn't work out with you and Veronica."
"It's fine," he sighed. "She's happy."
You nod awkwardly, "yeah she is."
"I guess I have time to actually think about other people," he looked like he was gonna say something else but stopped. "You look great tonight, I remember when you were six and dressed in your ninja costume all the time." You both laugh. "Reggie would get so embarrassed."
"Well he's making up for it," you chuckle. "Also, kudos on the backhanded compliment."
"No," he shook his head. "It's not that. I thought that was cute. You had the biggest crush on me when you were younger."
"Did I?" You act like you don't know what he's talking about. "I don't remember that, maybe it's your ego talking."
"I don't think so," he shook his head. "I definitely remember it. You'd blush every time I talked to you and you always made sure you were near me." You look away. "And you never made eye contact."
"Well," You laugh awkwardly. "I guess some things never change."
"I guess not," he smirked. You both sat in silence and you tried to figure out what he was trying to do. You couldn't read him in the slightest. "You're staring again."
"Well you are hard to miss," You tease. "You somehow managed to gain more muscle while you were gone. It's crazy. Your muscles have muscles." He laughed. "It's true. Like were you on steroids?"
"No," he shook his head laughing still. "I just ate proteins all the time. I lived in a forest so."
"Can I ask what it was like?" You say slowly. "The bear attack, I mean."
"Yeah," he nods. "But, I would rather tell it outside. Let's go for a walk?" You nod following him out. "It came out of nowhere. I was dodging some hikers because I was wanted. And, Vegas was walking with me. All of a sudden there was a bear and I saw it and heard the growl. But, it took me a minute to process that I was just attacked." He was looking at his feet as the two of you walked down the sidewalk. "I think I blacked out. But, when I came through I ran to the small cabin I was staying in and took my shirt off to clean it with some whiskey I had. It was awful. The sting was like a firework that had multiple bursts. I wrapped what I could and laid down and passed out. The pain was too much." You swallow unable to even think about that. "I thought I would be dead."
"Oh Arch," you sigh. "That sounds awful. I'm so sorry."
"It's fine," he shook his head. "I'm alive. That's all that matters." He stops abruptly and looks at you. "I've talked a lot. Why don't you talk. Tell me about you now, since you aren't the same." There was a teasing tone in his voice as he began walking again.
"Well, I still have no athletic ability," you say. "I do love to write and I love art. I have a weird thing for psych even though I took one class. And, I still can't talk to people."
"What happened with that guy?" He asked putting his hands in his pockets.
"We broke up a while ago," you bite your lip. "He was a dick, cheated on me."
"Well, he doesn't know what he is missing out on," Archie said softly. "You are great." You blush and look away. "Really, you are. You take care of everyone."
"Thanks," You laugh. "You are great too, no matter what is going through your head right now. I know you're going through a dark time right now, but you are still you. I know it." He grabs you looking in your eyes. "Arch?" His hands hold your face and his soft, chapped lips connect with yours. You were surprised at first, but fall into it. His lips moved slowly against yours and you let your hands go to his arms. The smell of fire wood and cinnamon fills your nose and heat builds up inside you.
"Sorry," He said after pulling away. "I just..."
"No, it's perfectly fine," you say still in a trance. "I liked it." He chuckled and his hands were still holding your face. "We just can't tell Reggie."
   "Alright," he nods. "Why?"
"Because any guy I even get close to, Reggie goes like full psycho. And, I think you might make him a little extra," you laugh.
"Okay," He nods. "We will keep it a secret then."
"Can we do that again?" You ask and he answers by connecting your lips again. "I can definitely get used to this."
    "Me too," he says.
You sneak around for a few weeks, meeting each other on runs and at the park. You see each other in free periods and ones you share. At night he sneaks into your bedroom to lay with you. It was kinda rush. You didn't tell anyone because for one Reggie and two it was going great. You didn't want to ruin it.
"Hey, you wanna meet me in the old locker room?" You ask with a smirk and he gives you a look.
"I'll see you during fifth," he nods as he hides his own smile.
"Hey," Veronica approached you. "What are you doing fifth?"
"I am going to the library," you lie. "I have some major studying to do and I am helping out someone else."
"Right," She nods. "Well, I was going to invite you to join Betty and I for a little rendezvous with the vixens."
"Well, as much as hanging with a bunch of girls that I hate, sounds," you laugh. "But, I really have work to do." She nods and finds her seat. You sit quietly for the rest of the class and until fifth. You sneak off to the old locker room.
"Hey gorgeous," he wraps his arms around you from behind. "So, am I the one you are helping out?"
"Depends," you say. "Can I give you a helping hand?"
"I think I can have a few things you can give me hand with," he flirts. "Starting with a few of these." He turns you and connects his lips with yours. "Beautiful."
"You're not bad yourself," you laugh wrapping your arms around his neck as his hands go to your waist and he hoists you up.
Betty overhears the two of you outside the locker room. Her eyes widen and she slowly goes to the door. Her hand forms a fist and she leaves a loud knock. "Archie?"
"Shit," you whisper. "What are we going to do?"
"Sh," He says. "Betty? What are you doing?"
"I heard your voice," she says opening the door. "What are you doing in the old boys locker room?"
"I, Erm, am kinda in the middle of something," he said.
"Yeah," she says. "Who are you in there with?"
"Betty!" He groaned. "Please go!"
"Right, Sorry." She said. The door shuts and he gives a sorry look.
"I'm sorry," he sighed and you laugh. "What?"
"She is so pushy," You giggle. "And, she didn't know it was me! I thought she was smarter." He shook his head and kissed you again. "I'll see you later. We can't get caught." You fix your clothes and hair before you place a chaste kiss to his cheek and leave.
"Y/N?!" Veronica and Betty gasp as you round the corner. You stop confused. "You are Archie's fling?"
"What?"
"Oh, Reggie is going to kill him," V shook her head. "What is he thinking?"
"Wait," You shake your head. "You can't tell him, please."
"Things are going so great between us," you plead. "We don't want to ruin it."
"Wait, This has been going on for a while now?" Betty asked. "What?"
"Yeah," you sigh. "Please don't tell anyone." Archie rounds the corner and stops when he sees the three of you. "Archie."
"Y/N," he says. "Betty, Veronica... What are you guys doing?"
"Oh cut the crap, we know," Betty shakes her head. "How could you not tell me?"
"What?"
"You are still clueless as ever," Veronica shook her head. "We won't tell... But, at some point you are gonna have to. You're his little sister."
"Thank you," You sigh in relief. "Really, it means a lot. And I will. When he calms down. I promise."
"Good," Betty said. "Now, Archie come with me. We obviously have a lot to talk about."
"I won't make you go through the same awkward questions," Veronica laughed. "Are you being safe? I know he's not in the right place right now."
"Of course," you almost shout. "And, I'm helping him, through his rough patch."
"Good," She nods. "You know, Reggie really does not want you hanging around him."
"Well, he's not my dad," you remind her. "He's just weird."
"I think you mean protective," she laughed. "He loves you." You nod with a sigh before walking off to your next class. In the next week Jughead has found out about the two of you and loved the drama. He had promised to keep it a secret though, for Archie, and he was glad that Archie was getting himself together. You got invited to a party hosted by one the Bulldogs, and of course you were going and so was Archie. But, Reggie was as well. So, you had to fight to keep apart.
"Y/N," Cheryl smiled. "How is the youngest Mantle?"
"Not satisfied with my current drink," You laugh and look at your unalcoholic drink. "But, other than that great."
"D.D?" She asks and you nod. "Well, I wanted to know if you had any interest in joking the Pretty Poisons? It's a female club and we are always up for new members."
"I heard about it," you nod. "I will think about it and look more into it." She gives you a satisfied smile and excuses herself.
"Yo Mantle, your sister got hot!" One of the football players shouts and you only roll your eyes. "What are you doing all by yourself?" He hands you a drink, which you take. You trusted Reggie's friends. More like, you knew his friends would be too scared to pull anything.
"Bro," Reggie shouts over the music. "Come on, that's my little sister."
"She don't look too little," he chuckled as he looks you up and down. "You wanna dance?"
"I'd rather not," you say backing up a few feet.
"Come on, it's harmless. Just a dance," he had a pleading tone. "Come on, baby." You roll your eyes growing annoyed and you take another drink.
"Did you call me baby?" You laugh and you feel two sets of eyes burning into you. "I don't even know your name."
"You can call me anything you want, Princess." You laugh. "You like it? If not I can come up with a few more," he says with a wink. "Come on, we can get down together. We'd be a power duo." He wraps an arm around you and pulls you closer. "Think about it." His other hand pulls the straps of your tank top.
"Let me go," you try to shove him away, but to no avail and before you could even try to say anything else his lips were on yours. His hands roamed your body pulling your top in odd directions. You felt disgusting. "I feel weird."
"Let me help you," He pulls you towards the stairs and you couldn't fight him any longer. You follow him up the stairs blindly and to a room. "Okay... Lay down and I'll get you some water." You sit on the bed, your vision was waving and spinning. You felt a little sick from it. Your body felt like it was on fire and you couldn't concentrate on anything. But, you were oddly aware of what was going on around you. You feel hands on you again, this time pulling your tank top off. You wanted to try to fight, but you couldn't feel anything. His lips connect with your lips and you let out a small scream which makes them suck harder. He pushes you down on the bed and holds your hands above you. You move away from him, but he uses his free hand to hold your face.
"Stop," You are finally able to make out through your lips. "Please." Tears form in your eyes. He doesn't listen. There was a knock on the door and you heard a familiar voice. "Help."
"Occupied," he calls with a little annoyance. The door opens to reveal Reggie. "Dude!" You knew he didn't process who he was.
"Can I borr- What the hell do you think you're fucking doing?" Reggie shouts and you literally see the rage fill his eyes. "I'm gonna fucking kill you." The guy is ripped off of you and you sit up bringing your knees to your chest. Tears falling down your face now. You hear people start shouting fight and something about Mantle. You see Reggie with the kid shoved against the wall, fist colliding with face.
"What the hell?" Veronica shouts before spotting you on the bed. "Y/N, are you alright?" She sits in front of you as you shake your head. "What can I do?"
"Get Archie," you say through sobs and she looks at Betty who nods. Veronica pulls you into her and holds you in a tight grasp.
"I'm so sorry," she whispers in your ear as she runs her hand down your back.
"What the hell happened?" Archie asked coming into the room. "Y/N?"
"He," You shake your head unable to talk. "He drugged me and... He tried to..." Another sob escapes your lips. Veronica moves so Archie can sit in front of you.
"He what?" Archie says slowly. "Babe, come here." He opens his arms and you practically fall into him. "Tell me."
"He came up to me and asked if I wanted to dance. He gave me a drink," you sob. "I took it. Because he was Reggie's friend. I thought he was smarter than trying to do something like that to me... I was stupid and wrong." You shake against him as he tried to calm you. "Then, I felt sick and he brought me up here... He took my shirt off... I can't, Archie."
"It's fine, babe," he whispers in your ear. "I have you. I won't let anyone touch you." He kissed your forehead and you hear Veronica pull Reggie away.
"What?" Reggie was breathless. "You two? What the hell? That's my little sister! If you are using her!"
"Reg," Veronica whispers and puts a hand on his chest.
"I'm not using her," Archie reassured him. "I am in love with her. Y/N, I love you."
"You're in love?" Veronica gasps. "I thought you guys were just like having fun!"
   "You knew?" Reggie yelled.
"Calm down," she shook her head. "We have to take her home."
"Come on," Archie says pulling you up and helping you get your top on. "I will bring her home, and I promise I will put her to bed. I wouldn't do anything like that to get back at you Reggie."
"We will follow you," Veronica suggests. "I think he's done anyways." Archie nods and pulls his jacket off to place on you.
