(I went to go see Mean Girls last Saturday. 10000000/10)
"Hey mom, hey dad." Davey greeted his parents. He waved at them, keeping his eyes focused on the floor.
"David." Esther walked over, giving her eldest son a hug. "Where have you been?"
"I was at Jack's." Davey admitted, giving a little wave to Sarah, who was sitting on the floor playing board games with Les.
"We got a call from your principal today, David." Meyer stood up, his arms crossed.
"I know." Davey took a deep breath. "And before you say anything, I want to talk."
"Of course." Esther nodded, smiling. "Sarah, Les, could you give us a moment?"
"No." Davey shook his head. "They can stay. They already know." He sat down on the couch. Sarah and Les joined him, sitting on either side of him. "Mom, dad." Davey looked at each of his parents. "I have something to tell you. And I'm not really sure how you'll react. I've been keeping this a secret for...a while now, and it's time you know." He took another deep breath, trying to calm his nerves. "I-"
"I'm bisexual." Sarah stood up, trying to take the attention away from her brother, who was obviously panicking. "I'm bisexual." She repeated, slower this time. "I figured it out a few months ago, and told David and Les shortly after that." She rubbed the back of her neck. "I asked Davey to tell you because we all know he's better with words than I am. But, yeah, I' bisexual. I'm sorry I waited so long to tell you, but I wasn't sure how you'd react."
"Aw, Sarah." Esther stood up, hugging her daughter tightly. "Of course we support you. Did you think who you love was going to change how much we love you?"
"It was just nerves, Mama." Sarah winked at her brother over her mom's shoulder. Davey smiled gratefully at Sarah, glad to know his parents wouldn't kick him out.
"If you had told me sooner, I would have been telling you about my buddies' daughters and their sons!" Meyer laughed, smiling proudly at his eldest child.
"Well, not all parents are as accepting as you guys are." Sarah told her parents. In the meantime, Les grabbed Davey's attention.
"She never told us she was bi." He whispered to his older brother.
"She lied about that part, Les." Davey explained.
"Why?" Les asked.
"To cover for me." Davey smiled gratefully, even though Sarah couldn't see.
"You're still going to have to tell them." Les pointed out.
"And I will." Davey admitted. "As soon as they're done squeezing the life out of Sarah." He pointed to where his mother was still giving his sister the biggest bear hug he had ever seen. After a minute, Sarah, Esther, and Meyer sat back down.
"This doesn't change the fact that we got a call from your principal today, David." Meyer reminded the family of the original topic.
"Right." Davey nodded, taking a deep breath. He sat up straight, and got right to the point. "I'm gay." He confessed. "Jack and I are dating. The principal caught us kissing in the hall today and we were suspended." He explained the whole story very bluntly. "But that's not why we we-"
"Pause, David." Esther interrupted. "You're gay?"
"Yeah." Davey nodded, starting to get worried. Would his parents be upset? After all, Sarah still was part straight. Maybe his parents only supported her because of that part. He looked down at his lap, feeling the panic in his chest growing by the second.
"Well then, why didn't you tell me to tell you about people's sons instead of their daughters?" Meyer asked, a grin breaking over his face.
"Wh-what?" Davey asked, looking up.
"Did you really think our support for you would change, David?" Esther smiled. "After all, we just accepted your sister right in front of you. Did you think that would be any different for you?"
"Well, um..." Davey shrugged, the panic gradually leaving his body. Esther walked over to her son, pulling him off the couch and into her arms.
"We love you just as much as we ever did, David." She said reassuringly.
"R-right." Davey nodded, melting into his mother's arms.
"So, you're dating Jack, huh?" Meyer asked.
"Yeah." Davey nodded, turning to face his dad. "I really do care about him, dad. I do. And he cares about me." He insisted.
"Oh, there's no doubt in my mind that he does. But now I'm going to have to give him the dad talk." Meyer pointed out, and Davey groaned in dismay.
"Dad, no. I've seen you give that to Sarah's boyfriends. I don't want you to scare Jack off." Davey ran his fingers through his hair, a trait he had picked up from Jack.
"If he really cares about you and you two are really meant to be, I won't be able to scare him off." Meyer insisted, using the same reason he used every time Sarah complained about the dad talk.
"You were never going to give anyone that talk when you thought I was into girls." Davey reasoned.
"Yes, but it's different now." Meyer countered.
"Don't worry," Sarah patted Davey's back reassuringly. "You'll get used to it."
"But dad, you've met Jack already." Davey tried again.
"That was when I thought you were just friends." Meyer pointed out. "Now that I know you're dating, I have to give him the talk. It's only fair." Davey groaned again, sitting back down on the couch next to Les. Esther walked over to her youngest son and picked him up, holding him on her hip.
"Mom!" Les groaned. "I'm ten. Put me down."
"Oh fine." Esther put her youngest child down, ruffling his hair a little. "Now that both of your older siblings have gone, do you have any news you'd like to share with the circle?" She laughed a little, not expecting anything.
"Yes I do." Les nodded. "I have a girlfriend now."
"You do?" Meyer raised an eyebrow.
"Yup. Her name is Sally. She's something special." Les announced.
"Well, that's great for you, dear. Have her over some time." Esther suggested.
"Wait," Sarah spoke up. "Does this mean I'm the only single Jacobs sibling?"
"Yep." Davey nodded.
"Aw man." Sarah complained. "The ten year old got a girl before I did."
"Hey, I have a name!" Les insisted, smacking his sister's leg lightly with his hand. The Jacobs family burst into laughter around Les, who was very confused as to what was funny. And as Davey looked around at his laughing family, he couldn't help but feel grateful that they were all so accepting. Even his annoying little brother.
