Embers Don't Let The Fire Die (Kai x Cole)

Summer. Best time of the year because most people are out having fun. Beaches, amusement parks, ice cream, and videogames. Its the only thing that keeps people these days from going outside and enjoying life. Couch potatoes that sit and play all day probably in the dark as well.

But the responsible one literally has to drag everyone away from the cool, shady indoors to the outside world with harsh ultraviolet rays trying to burn someone even if for a few seconds. "I don't understand why you had to take us away from the game. I feel like I'm going to melt out here." Jay whined.

"Shut up Jay. You're the weakest of all of us and the slimmest. Doesn't my sister fatten you up with treats?" Kai asked annoyed. "She does. I just have a high metabolism being a ninja. There's nothing wrong with being small." Jay says.

"Hey Kai! Let's go catch some waves. High tide has the best!" Lloyd says. "Before traversing on your own, allow me to cover you all in sun protection to prevent burns or cancer. Everything is fun when you know that you are safe from the dangers of the sun's rays." Zane says.

"I won't burn in the sun though. I'm like the hottest person on the planet and its hard for me to get burned." Kai says. "We'll see about that, Hothead. Race you into the water!" Cole says running towards the ocean. Kai grabs his board as well as Lloyd trailing behind like the gay sucker he is.

Kai at first was enjoying himself but when Cole splashed him, he remembered that he was afraid of the water. Kai looked towards the beach and saw Zane waving his arms and his mouth was moving. What was Zane trying to say?

Cole paddled over to Kai and then smiled. "I'm surprised you came out here all by yourself. Not scared of the water now, are you?" He teased. "I'm still afraid. Its just not that bad when I'm being competitive. You know how I am." Kai says.

"You know it, Hotshot. Do you know why Zane is dancing on the beach?" Cole asked. "Maybe he's trying to warn us of something? Didn't the beach sigh say something about riptides?" Kai asked as the two feel a jerk as said riptide pulled them out to sea.

Opening his eyes, Kai held his hand up and sat up to see Cole sitting beside him. "What happened?" Kai asked. "Apparently the riptide you mentioned took us far out and when I thought it couldn't get worse, you pass out. I had to drag you on your board when I saw this island in the distance." Cole says.

"So we're stranded somewhere off the coast of Ninjago and we have nothing but our swim trunks and elemental powers." Kai says. "At least your fire can keep us warm if the others can't find us." Cole says.

"I guess we should explore the island to kill some time." Kai says walking inland. Cole follows him and soon, the two are going through the woods until they find a cave just as the sun started to set.

Cole gets a bunch of wood while Kai lit them on fire for light and warmth. "Still sucks that we're here. But because I'm here with you, I think there's a possibility that we'll be found tomorrow morning. I love you dork." Cole says.

Kai felt his blush increase but he snuggled close to Cole, sharing his immense body heat. "I love you too." Kai mumbled falling asleep. Cole strokes Kai's hair and smiled as the fire started to die down a bit.

"I'll always protect my fire. My embers live longer because of my fire." Cole says. By morning, Kai is poking Cole in the face. "Let's go find some coconuts. Then head back to the beach and hope the others find us." Kai says.

Cole nods and even though they couldn't find palm trees with coconuts, they got fish and Kai cooked them well. "Nothing like stranded paradise for lovebirds." Cole says. "Yeah. I would've thought Lloyd was somehow behind this. He's always bragging about how he's the Ultimate Gay Lloyd and gives advice on how to confess to your lover." Kai says.

"Sounds like him alright. Now, want to surf while we wait? Still have our boards." Cole points out. Kai sighed but nodded. "Let's just stay close to the shore so we don't repeat this with some other island." He says. "Got it." Cole replies with a thumbs up.

It wasn't long when they heard voices and the sound of an engine. Looking up, Kai and Cole saw the Bounty above and their friends all looking down towards them. The rope ladder is let down and the couple climb up and sigh in relief.

"I'm so glad we found you guys. Hey, something's different about you two." Jay says. Kai and Cole look to each other and smiled. "We're together now. As in dating." Kai admits. "Congratulations." Zane says. "Now how about you two take a shower and then meet us in the game room." Nya says.

It took a few minutes but eventually, the two gave their brief story and then they got a good meal from Zane. Cole sat next to Kai and getting them apart is like trying to pull a rock in half with your bare hands (if you weren't Cole that is.) They sat on the deck of the ship watching the sun set just like the embers of their fire dying into the darkness of night.
