Water You Think You're Doing (Merman Zane x Surfer Cole)

After returning to the beach, Cole waved as Zane went back below the water and back to his village. Cole on the other hand, had to hurry before Jay saw that he had gone out. Going as fast as his legs could carry him, he climbed up the tree branches and opened the window to his room. Sliding inside, he sighed in relief as he shut the window and watched the sunrise.

"You're back. Now explain to me why you went midnight swimming and how much trouble we'll be in if you get caught." A voice said. Cole turns around to find Jay leaning in the shadows and coming into view. "How long have you been there!?" Cole asked surprised. "Hm, since I came to check on you around two-three o'clock in the morning. I'm not surprised that you left like that after the hot chocolate conversation we had." Jay mused.

"Besides, you're lucky not getting caught. But the day you do, they'll have a guard come to the house and find me minding my own business even though I was seen with you unconscious on that cursed beach. And once I'm taken into custody as well, they'll call my parents. My parents will ground me indefinitely and you'll get sent back to your hometown far from any beach with your dad." Jay says.

"You're over reacting, Jay. More or less, I need to head out. I'm a little sore and wanted to get some tea from Wu's Tea shop. Don't try and follow me or I'll go try and run away to the ocean." Cole says. Jay sighs but nods. "Fine. But keep your head low if you see guards. I don't want you to be taken away. You're my best friend and we stick together like glue." Jay says.

Cole groans. "Ew. We may be friends but please; don't ever say that again." Cole says with a slight gag. "And why not? You're not with anyone yet so you are up for grabs." Jay says raising his eyebrows. Cole pretends to puke at Jay's comment. "I'd rather you be with Prince Lloyd than me. Besides, I'm already interested in someone." He says.

"Me and Prince Lloyd? Seems odd but I can see that being possible. Hold up! Why did you suddenly ship me with royalty?" Jay asked. Cole's face becomes flustered and he starts to stutter. "N-no r-reason. J-just thought y-you two would be c-cute together. And so I could see Z-Zane." He says. "Who's Zane?" Jay asked.

"Forget I said anything! I need to go!" Cole says running out of the house. Once he was far enough, he sighed in relief. "That was close. Better head over to Wu's Tea Shop to talk to Morro." He says to himself. Keeping his head down, he made his way through the town square and walked inside the shop.

Looking up, he sees Morro and Mistaké putting boxes of tea on the shelves. Cole walks to the counter and Morro turns around looking at him. "Can I help you?" He asked. "Actually, I wanted to talk to you." Cole began. "I'm sorry but I'm too busy right now. Maybe after we clos-" Morro is cut off by Mistaké.

"Go on and chat. I can handle the rest of these. I believe its something special." She says chuckling. Morro sighs but reluctantly climbed down from the ladder and lead Cole to the back. "Okay, spit it out. What's so important that you had to drag me away from my work?" He asked. "Zane told me about you and Harumi back before you disappeared." Cole started.

Morro immediately grabs the nearest thing, which just so happened to be a teapot, and held it up threateningly. "How much do you know? Did he send you after us? Who else knows?" Morro asked. "I only know what Zane told me. Who is 'he'? And no one else knows what I know." Cole answered. Morro cursed under his breath but lowered the teapot.

"So Zane told you? How did you meet him when merfolk are forbidden from human interaction?" He asked. "Long story short, Zane saved me from drowning and he told me that Harumi isolated herself and practices dark stuff now." Cole says. "She would never do that. Wu would've told her that he took me to the surface. Take me to see her tonight." Morro says.

Cole held his hands up. "Woah, slow down. Its not that easy. The beach is guarded and if anyone is seen trespassing, you're more than likely to be taken into custody and found guilty. The penalty is death from what I've heard." Cole says. "Then how do you see Zane? Haven't you been caught already?" Morro asks.

Cole shakes his head. "I've been careful. I'll go see him tonight and we can plan how you two can see each other." He says. Morro smiles and nods. "Let me know as soon as possible. I hope she can wait a little longer for me." Morro says.

"Are you sure about this dude? I haven't seen you like this since you first got your powers." Kai says swimming next to Zane. "I am positive. But I am glad that you and Nya could accompany me to Miss Harumi's." Zane says. "Its the least we could do. You do so much for us so it only feels right." Nya says smiling. The three stop and see Pixal and Skylor chatting outside of Harumi's home.

"Why are they there? I thought you said that she isolated herself?" Kai asked. "It appears that I was miss informed. Perhaps they check on Harumi. She hardly is seen around the village." Zane says. "I don't know. But I hope Skylor will accept me soon! I haven't asked her yet because I always stutter and my words always comes out weird. I can't be around her without being a clumsy mess." Nya says.

"I'm sure she'll notice you soon. But I'm more concerned about protecting our village. No love interest for me." Kai says. "I believe we have been spotted." Zane points out as Pixal and Skylor are seen swimming towards them. Nya hides behind her brother while Zane looked at Pixal and Skylor as they stopped in front of them.

"She's been expecting you. You can follow me while the other two stay with Skylor." Pixal says. Zane nods and looking back at Kai and Nya, he saw Nya was blushing hard. Following Pixal inside, he noticed that it seemed creepier than it should've. Pixal stops at a door and gestures for Zane to go in.

Going through, he sees Harumi at a table. The door slams shut behind him and Zane suddenly felt like he shouldn't have come. "Miss Harumi, if you would like to know-" He's cut off by her voice. "You came for advice on your human love interest. I can help." She says. "Actually, I have good news. Sir Morro is alive and on the surface." Zane says.

Harumi looks up at him but she scowls. "Have you seen him in person or did you hear this from your human?" She asked. "Cole is not my human. And he speaks the truth. If you would like, we can arrange a night for him to come see you." Zane says. "Fine. But if you lie, I will hurt both you and all of your loved ones." Harumi says.

After that, Zane swam out quickly and towards the cave. Breaking the surface, he sees Cole already there waiting. "Cole! How long have you been waiting?" Zane asked. "5-10 minutes. Morro wants to see Harumi." Cole says. "I have promised the same to her but if he does not show, she will hurt you." Zane says.

"Pfft. I'm not scared of her. The worse she could do is make it so I can't surf. Then I'd be mad." Cole says. "Do not jinx yourself. She is capable of more than you think. She acts like she's royalty because of the power she wields. She's one not to be trifled with." Zane says. "I'll take my chances. But when do you want to get them together?" Cole asked.

They sat in silence until Zane broke it. "How about two nights from now? It'll be easy for me but you will need to plan how you are going to get Morro hear without your guards catching you." Zane says. Cole nods in agreement. "I can see if a friend of mine can distract the guards in case Morro and I get caught." Cole says.

"Then it is settled. We meet back tomorrow to make sure that everything is good to go." Zane says. Cole inches closer to Zane but fell into the water instead. Breaking the surface, Cole could see Zane chuckling. "You best be heading home. I'm sure your friend will be worried about you." Zane says.

Both leave the cave but before separating, Cole was surprised when Zane kissed him on his lips. "Farewell for now." he says swimming away. Cole would've floated in pure shock but the lack of oxygen in his lungs reminded him that he was only human.
