"Tell me again why you wanted to come out here? Its too cold for us to even be out here!" Jay practically shouted. "Shh. Keep your voice down or you'll alert the guards. I just want to catch some waves and then we head home." Cole says as he quietly tapped his board. "Then why did I have to come?" Jay asked.
Cole groans. "Because I need someone to keep an eye out in case a guard comes. If one comes, I'll hurry back to shore and we book it." He answers. "I don't know about this. I've heard stories about this frozen beach. It was warm and everything beaches are supposed to be like. But one day, while someone was in the water, they said that they saw a mermaid. Shortly after, they got out as fast as they could just as a cold front suddenly came in. And just as fast as the cold came, everyone who were on the beach supposedly grew tails and weren't seen again." Jay says.
"Pfft. I don't believe in those myths and legends. Its just a bunch of junk trying to keep people from finding secrets. I know that the guards are here to protect something that if the public find out about, then everyone will start a riot. Its not like Prince Lloyd could reveal any secrets." Cole says.
"He's still looking for his true love but, how can he find someone when he continues to say childish things such as 'I'm Ultimate Gay Lloyd!' or 'Fear? Fear isn't a word where I come from!' Like come on! He's got so many people asking for his hand but nothing!" Jay says. Cole elbows Jay and held up a finger to his lips.
Jay nods and Cole sneaks from the frozen beach hut and got to the water. It laps at his feet and he sighs in relief. He waded in and then paddled out on his board. Once he sees a wave, he starts paddling the direction the wave is. Standing up, he whoops as the cold water splattered onto his face.
After a few more waves, Cole was out waiting for his tenth one when he saw a tail. "Huh?" Cole says leaning forward. Just as he did, Jay started to shout his name and a wave crashes down on him as well. Cole tried to catch his breath but felt himself sinking. Looking around, he saw a silver flash. When he looked down, the silver flash cuts the plant that seemed to be dragging him deep into the depths. A face appears in Cole's view just as he lost consciousness.

'Is this a human?' Zane thought as he watched the human sink deeper. Then he realized why that was so; strangleweeds. 'I must save him, even if the rules say that we must not come close to humans.' He thought flapping his tail gaining speed. Taking his trusty shell knife, Zane cuts the strangleweeds around one of the human's weird tails.
After the carnivorous plants retreated to the depths, Zane took ahold of the human and swam up to the surface. Peeking above the water and seeing no one, he dragged the human to the shore. Performing the technique he was taught in health, he carefully pushed on the human's chest until he saw movement from it.
Zane stared at the human only to realize that it was male like him. "What a strange creature you humans are. Riding the water on flat shell-like objects for fun. But I thought humans were banned from this part of the land." Zane says to himself. But when he heard a voice, he froze. "COLE! COLE, CAN YOU HEAR ME?" It said.
Looking towards the human male he saved, he smiled. 'Cole must be this human's name. Cole the Human Water Rider. Fascinating.' Zane thought. The voice got even louder meaning it was close. "Goodbye, Cole. I hope your people can heal you from your water riding." Zane whispers into Cole's ear before going back into the water.
