Battle Scars (Kai x Reader) [REWRITE]

I checked out my old story Battle Scars from 2017 and I feel ashamed that I called it a story with how short it was. So here's my rewrite of Battle Scars. I felt the adrenaline race through me as I fought beside my brother and our friends. Jay and I are both adopted and we act almost similar to each other. But people knew that I was the mature one out of us. I learned my elemental power after Jay left to be with Sensei Wu and the guys. I only saw him again when I was protecting myself against stone warriors that started coming from the ground like the undead.

At first, I screamed in fear. But my mind went defensive and I started to fight these things. Using f/e, I threw punches. When I heard Kai's voice as he flew in, picked me up, and started running towards the news building. I tried to get out of his grip but he tightened it and mumbled to me. "I'll get you to safety. Can't let a beautiful girl fight without proper training."

I calmed and stared at his amber eyes, the only thing visible while he wore his mask. "Thanks red ninja." I stuttered. It was inside the building my brother noticed me in Kai's arms. "Y/n? Oh my gosh, why are your fists bloody?" Jay exclaimed. I glanced down and sure enough, my knuckles were bloody. Makes sense when you punch stone with bare flesh. "Nothing too bad. I've had worse." I casually stated. My brother removed his mask to reveal how surprised he was.

"Not too bad? Y/n, I haven't seen you since I left to become a ninja and we finally see each other again when Kai has to save your sorry ass from these stone warriors? I'm more worried about my sister trying to fight an indestructible enemy." Jay stated. "I can take care of myself, Jay. Mom and Dad let me move into the city so I could pursue a future. Too bad my first apartment got destroyed because of that giant snake." I mumbled.

"Jay has a sister? Why didn't you tell us you had a sister?" A Raven head asked. "Allow me to wrap your injury." A platinum head stated. And glancing at my brother, he seemed to be trying to get Kai's attention. I let my gaze meet Kai's and I felt like his amber eyes transferred their warmth to me.

Fast forward a couple of months later, I had moved in with the ninja and started training to become the f/c ninja of f/e. It was nice to be near my brother but a certain fire master had me staring at him. And when I learned that my brother was dating Nya, I grinned. Jay was growing up and I couldn't be prouder of my little brother.

Even though Kai would try to flirt with other girls, I overall could hear how bad they were. But when we were alone, I was the one advancing on him. I liked Kai, but I wasn't sure if he liked me back. The moment I saw Skylor, I deflated as she captivated my Kai. I despised the tournament because I had to also go against Kai and let myself lose so he could advance.

But the present moment was us fighting in the forest, against a bunch of thugs. These thugs had stolen advanced technology from Borg Industries and modified it to target us. But my adrenaline made it easy to stay aware of my surroundings. I took the lead of my small group consisting of Kai, Jay, and myself. Lloyd, Cole, Zane, and Nya were on the other side of Ninjago dealing with the other half of the thugs' group.

Being spread thin wasn't good but it was necessary to protect the people of Ninjago. I chased after three that escaped the group of 20 thugs, Kai and Jay not noticing at all. Jumping through the trees, I easily caught up. Until the buff guy in the lead turned around and started shooting at me. I slipped off the tree branch I stood on and collapsed onto the ground. Pain shot through my body as they beat me.

"Mr F/c ninja can't live. Kill him before his buddies show up." Buff guy stated. I cried out in pain as the other two gave me a slow and painful death. But the sound of lightning buzzed through my ears. I watched helpless as the thugs had electricity course through their bodies. My brother and Kai kneeled down beside me and both had worry and fear in their eyes. Jay even had tears in his eyes, clutching my hand as blood poured from my wounds.

"Why did you go off on your own Y/n? I'm not ready to lose my sister yet. Mom and Dad don't even know that we found each other again. We'll get you to Zane and Sensei Wu so they can patch you up. There's probably a tea that can speed up the healing process.." My brother continued to ramble and I decided to painfully turn my head towards Kai.

He was scanning the area for anyone else. I knew that look on his face. Its the look of wanting to protect someone and staying determined at the same time. I loved how Kai was always determined to keep going. I'd know because that's how I am. His amber eyes soon trailed down to meet mine and I held his gaze until I lost consciousness.

I felt gentle shaking and groaned as I opened my eyes. Amber eyes met my e/c ones. "Kai?" I croaked, mouth dry and throat sore. The fire master gave a relieved sigh as he leaned down and touched our foreheads together. "I'm so glad you pulled through. Zane and Sensei were unsure you'd wake up. Hell, Jay has been crying onto my sister about how worried he was. You really scared us." Kai stated.

"S-sorry. I wanted to make sure no one escaped and paid the price." I mumbled. Kai strokes my face and I finally noticed all the bandages wrapped around my limbs. "You took quite a beating from those three. Sensei had tea that should finish healing the wounds into transparent scars." He noted. I gave a slight nod, attempting to sit up in the cot. "Now I've got battle scars. I probably look horrible under these bandages." I frowned.

"Battle scars, huh? I think they'll make you look cool. A kick ass girl who is also an elemental master. I can't imagine anyone cooler than you." Kai stated. "Zane's cooler than me." I said dryly. Kai scoffs. "Okay, then you're the hottest girl I know." He rephrased. I raised an eyebrow and he realized what he said.

"Actually, never min-" he started before I reached up and kissed him. He came closer and returned the gesture, a fire between us. Finally getting air, we both sighed, staring at each other dreamily. "Kai? Sensei needs you- Oh." Lloyd says, as Kai and I grinned at each other. "Did you need something Greenie?" Kai asked.

Lloyd turned around to avoid facing us. "I did not need to see that." He muttered. "Lloyd? Are you okay? Is my sister awake yet?" Jay's voice asked. Jay peeked his head inside and he started to snicker. "I was wondering when you two would finally get together. Cole owes me 10 bucks now." I groaned as my brother then whispered something into Lloyd's ear.

Lloyd cried out as he scrambled away from my brother. "Did you just ruin his innocence?" Kai asked. "Its the circle of life Kai. Besides, he'll learn more when he finally gets a girlfriend like us." Jay stated.

I groaned and let f/e grow in my hand. I motioned my arm to throw it when my brother wasn't looking and nailed him into the wall. Jay yelped as he felt the temporary pain fill his body. "He's still a child Jay! Don't ruin his childhood like the tea did back then." I shouted. Jay too scrambled out of my blast radius and Kai chuckled.

"You know how to handle your brother. I probably would've punched him for whatever he told Lloyd." Kai stated. "I gave Jay a little punishment. When Sensei and Misako hear Lloyd telling them what my brother said, Jay will be begging me to protect his ass." I laughed. "I'm glad that we met like we did. For the longest time, I didn't know if I liked you or if you were just like other girls." Kai whispered into my ear. "Then pay me back for all the girls I had to watch you flirt with since we met. My battle scars will heal faster if you truly love me." I whispered back.

"Is that a challenge?" He chuckled, amber eyes filled with fire. I laughed as he smirked towards me. The sunset outside filters through the window and gives the room a warm glow. "I love you Kai." I mumbled, leaning my head on his shoulder. Kai pulled me closer to him as we stared out the window. "I love you too Y/n." He replied.
