celena caught herself and steadied her legs. she began sputtering out nonsense, which sounded like a newborn trying to speak. it was incredibly embarrassing to say the least.

"cat got your tongue?" he laughed, tilting his head cutely

"n-no," she stammered looking down at the floor

she was internally screaming. her cheeks were hot and red, and she needed to get out of the room but she forced herself to stay. it didn't help that he was staring at her intently with that stupid grin.

he knew exactly what his actions were doing to her. celena inhaled and exhaled deeply to calm herself and was hit by the awful smell instantly.

"ugh when was the last time you had a shower?!" she exclaimed without a thought

his expression dropped. celena began scolding herself. if anything, she wasn't supposed to aggravate the only thing that could kill her.

"im sorry that i didn't take a shower while being imprisoned. how unhygienic of me!" he sarcastically spoke

she let out a sigh of relief. her trained eyes snapped to his moving shadow. her figure straighten quickly. she chastised herself in her head. how could she foolishly let her guard down because of his looks and stench?

sneaking another glance at him, she noticed something weird. he didn't give off the cold feeling other hunters did, and he seems more carefree than other hunters.

"right..." she trailed off

the being in front of her was a hunter. she needed to get that straight. even if she didn't know what she was going to ask him, she had somewhere to start. why are those humans risking lives to make hunters?

"what's wrong, sweetheart?" he asked

"d-ont call me that!" she snapped

his smiled drooped and he sat back in his chair lazily. he hummed gently and placed his feet on the table between them. she glared at him with her eyes.

"i don't understand. why would you volunteer to become a hunter? you barely look 18!"

he stopped humming to answer her, "easy, some of us had no choice babe."

celena choose to ignored the last word. he is obviously a flirt. she focused on the other thing he said instead.

"but you told clary that people volunteered," she spoke, confused

"i didn't lie. i mean, lots volunteered. many hate your kind you know," she grit her teeth hearing him say so, "but others really didnt have a choice. we're going to die hungry anyway so why not become this?"

"of course you have a choice. everyone has a choice," she muttered, not wanting to feel bad for him

he most likely heard her but stayed quiet. what he said did make sense to her though. it was smart of the scientist to target those who were homeless and in need of help.

"is that why you don't- how do i say this- give off the vibe other hunters do? because you were once human?" she prodded him with questions

he shook his head, "no, im special." he said with a smirk

she scoffed, "what does that mean?"

he didn't waste time to answer her, "im still half human. i wasn't completely turned." he whispered as if it was a secret.

her eyebrows furrowed, "what?"

she leaned forward unconsciously, intrigued. he noticed. the boy dropped his legs off the table and stood up.

"my name is harvey, and i'm what the scientists would call a failure, but i like the term hybrid more. you see, the reason why the other won't say anything is because they don't remember. they can't remember." he began

after a pause he continued, "im the only one speaking because i do. once taking that stupid injection, you're supposed to forget your past memories. your brain is basically controlled by those humans, but it didn't work on me. so here i am." he shrugged

"what?" was all celena could say

he groaned, "oh god. you're one of those people aren't you?

slowly, he moved around the table and walked towards here. celena stood frozen. he stepped in from of her and stared into her eyes. unknowingly her heart began to beat quickly. thoughts she didn't want to acknowledge were swirling in her head.

then he brought his hand up and flicked her head. the butterflies in her stomach suddenly disappeared.

"ow! get away from me" she shrieked and pushed his shoulders back

next to her, the door burst open. kamry sprinted in with her hand frozen with ice, and georgia had her hands out to fight. not long after, the other girls dashed their way in.

"what's happened?!" catherine asked in a loud volume

everliegh looked at the two, "are you trying to take advantage of her?!"

harvey jumped back with his hands up defensively.
he had an innocent look on his face, but it wasn't fooling anyone.

"what? no!" he screamed but instantly composed himself, "hey you're cute."

everliegh's face went white, "did you just flirt with me?"

celena's jaw dropped open. she looked at him absurdly and crossed her arms with a pout.

she muttered, "wow such a player."

"i mean why not cutie," he said, sending the wink to everliegh

everliegh's face wrinkled and she turned away from the boy. she began walking out of the room while massaging her head.

"i can read minds, so please try to not think of such thoughts," she called out before leaving the chamber

the other girls turned to harvey with a suspicious look.

"are you thinking of everliegh inappropriately?!" they screeched

in a split second georgia and juniper hurled themselves at the boy. it was safe to say that he lost all interest of everliegh that day.
