clary growled, and kamry felt it ripple through her because of their close proximity. suddenly and hand pulls clary back, and she stumbles. she looks over her shoulder with a death glare only to find celena.

"cut it out guys," she demands, "we have a bigger problem. we think we know the face of one of those hunters."

kamry and clary both face celena and ask in unison, "who?"

"johnny's new girlfriend,"

-

"you guys have to be mistaken. why would johnny date a hunter? that's crazy!" kamry denied

clary agreed, "maybe it was someone that looked like her. it's early in the morning, you could have just seen wrong."

it was truly an odd sight to see both clary and kamry agreeing over something again, but catherine shook her head. her hand was trembling from exhaustion, but she still continued to heal everliegh.

"i swear it was her. she was leading them in and it makes sense. johnny's brought her here before, only she could know." catherine argued

everliegh made a whimpering sound, "i saw it too. it can't be a coincidence."

clary bit her lip. she still wasn't totally convinced. one thing was for sure though, they can't stay here any longer. she came to a silent conclusion.

"change of plans. grab as much as you can. whether it was her or not, we have to leave. they might come back with a bigger fleet,"

it was the only thing they could all agree on.

catherine, all drained out, had no other choice but to go old school. she used the aid kit to bandage everliegh's side up. it was a temporary solution fro now. catherine would have to finish later.

they packed efficiently and got ready to leave. within an hour they were ready to get in the van. in the kitchen, catherine packed as much food as she could. her phone rang and she dared to glance at it.

chris: hey im outside the building! could you let me in?

catherine dropped the water bottle she held and raced to the front door. why now at of all times? swinging the door open, catherine gasped at the bouquet of flowers he held.

"i-uh- chris you cannot be here," she stammered, slightly out of breath

"what? why? i got these flowers for you," he pouted

catherine felt her chest tighten as she forced a smile. his eyes bore into her, asking the silent question; what's going on? she opened her mouth to quickly explain when she spotted a dagger flying straight at her head.

she made a move to teleport. a second later, the two stood feet away from the flying weapon. chris blinked in awe.

"chris, you need to run out the back door!" she bellowed

he could only nod before sprinting towards the back. catherine adverted her attention back to the hunter at the door. she smirked at her wickedly. catherine mocked her and threw her hidden weapon.

the hunter was fast and dodged. she simply side stepped it. catherine growled and lunged. without the dagger, the hunter was practically defenseless. the hunter wriggled and tried to get out of the grip.

abruptly, catherine heard a male scream, followed by an unfamiliar noise. it was from the back. catherine kneed the hunter and ran. she didn't care that the hunter was most likely on her tail.

her heart was beating so fast and she couldn't gear anything but this ringing.

she reached chris and saw that he was on the floor. catherine panicked. are you hurt? she wanted to say but closed her open mouth. a hunter lay dead in front of him.

"h-how?" she breathed

something moved behind her. chris yelled a warning. she twirled to find the previous hunter jumping at her, dagger in hand. catherine's hands went up to her face in defense.

she blinked and chris in front of her. this time she was the one to scream, but it was cut short. a translucent shield bursts from chris, and when the daggers tip touches it, it sends the hunter flying back to its death.

chris' knees buckle and his eyes roll to the back of his head. catherine catches him in time and lays him on the floor. a strangled sob escapes from her. she didn't know what just happened, couldn't comprehend it, but the sight of chris breaks her.

he's pale and too cold. there are blooding scratches all over him.

"chris! get up! i'm sorry!" she sobs

catherine didn't know what she was exactly apologizing for, but it felt appropriate. she pounded at his chest and shook his shoulders. a small groan comes from him.

she stills and wipes her tears away.

"c-chris?" she croaked

"t-that hur-ts,"

catherine exhaled in relief and even let out a breathy chuckle. she embraced him tightly, a few tears escaping. he held her back.

"you scared me,"

"i'm sorry," he apologized

one question lingered in her mind but she would at later. this wasn't the time. just then, kamry walked into the room. she took one glance at her surroundings.

she said, "what happened?"
