"clary, if he can tell us where the place is then we can go shut it down. we can stop them." juniper announced

clary took the seat opposite of juniper. she didn't say anything immediately. instead she pondered for a bit.

"you cannot. we don't know id he is speaking the truth, and it is simply to dangerous for the seven of you to go. you won't be able to defend yourself. none of you know the basics of self defense," she dictated

"what are you talking about? we've been defending ourselves for the moment we were born!" tate hissed

clary tiredly sunk into the soft sofa. she was tired of tate's random bursts of anger. today was easily the craziest day of the week for her. first, the girls inform her about hunter showing up at the school. then, they arrive here and cause a fight.

"just lay low for now. those hunters at your school will be looking for you," clary remarked, ignoring tate.

the younger girl didn't like this and continued to rant on and on. clary let out a breathy sigh and sunk deeper into the sofa if possible.

"why didn't you take me with you georgia?" clary whined to herself.

she wanted so badly to be with georgia and kamry, who were at the store getting groceries. unfortunately she declined the offered and was forced to challenged by tate and juniper.

"catherine!" chris beamed

he pulled her in for a hug that lasted for a long minute. when he pulled away, he admired her face. since they hadn't met up in a while, he was extremely excited to see her. she was also happy.

they entered the packed bakery shop together. after picking their snacks, they settled down on a table tucked in the corner for privacy. catherine pulled out her macrons and munched on them.

"where have you been? i tried to surprise you by visiting your private school the other day, but they said you left," he inquired

catherine quickly racked her brain for excuses. she had become particularly good at lying to chris, over the years.

"they meant that i left for vacation. im just taking two weeks off because of the stress," she lied flawlessly

"oh," he responded

they continued to converse while eating their desserts when chris randomly changed the subject.

"oh! my mom told me that a supernatural girl used to live in our neighborhood. isn't that freaky? good thing she left. ugh~ gives me the chills!" he said in disgust

catherine gulped. she had always known chris hated the mere existence of supernatural humans for no reason. when she asked, he would answer with "just because", but this really hit her hard. he was indirectly talking about her.

"r-really? yeah how..weird," she played along

"don't you just wish they didn't exist?" he added

catherine dropped her fork abruptly and apologized afterwards. with shaky hands, she gripped her glass of water.

no, she doesn't. she does want them alive, because she is one of them. however there was no easy way to say that without exposing herself.

"i wouldn't go that far," she said instead

chris shrugged and swallowed a large piece of pie. he stared at catherine worriedly.

"hey, are you ok?" he asked

"don't you feel bad for that little girl though?" she ignored his previous question

"what do you mean?" he asked back

"i mean, she didn't choose to be a supernatural," catherine insisted

chris shook his head and ate another piece of pie. he washed it down with a gulp of orange juice, and then wiped his mouth.

"no. doesn't matter if she chose it or not. she's still a monster either way." he said with no regret

her heart shattered.

normally this wouldn't affect her, since she saw this regularly on the news and from people, but hearing it from him made it 100x worse.

she thought of all the times she wanted to tell him the truth. all the times she came close to revealing everything. it was always a mystery to her on how he would react.

would he have called her a monster?

"be quiet," she sneered

"what?" he asked, taken aback

"how could you?" she whimpered

she was on the very edge, and he finally pushed her enough. she couldn't help it. everything she had wanted to say to him was spilling out of her mouth uncontrollably.

"don't you have a heart? how could you call them monsters? how could you call me a monster! it wasn't my fault! human were the ones that made the mistake of making us! i didn't choose to be like this!" she sobbed

salty tears gushed out of her. she cried heavily into her hands. her whole body trembled.

chris watched her without saying a word. he was speechless.

"you're a...s-supernatural?" he squeaked

"yes." she admitted

at that moment he moved back from her instinctively. her heart twisted. he's afraid of her.

she stood up from the table and glared at him, "this isn't my fault! it's yours, all yours! you were the one who asked me out! you were the one who kept begging even though i said no! didn't i warn you i was different? i hate you! what have we ever done to do? you're worse than everyone else! you discriminate without a reason! get away from me!" she hollered

though the whole bakery was now staring at her tear stained face, she didn't care. she continued to make a scene by splashing the remaining orange juice on his white shirt, followed by flipping the table.

bawling, she ran out of the store. she didn't know where she was going, but it didn't matter. she just let her legs lead the way.

from a distance she could hear name being called but she kept running and running. unexpectedly, she bumped into a person and stumbled.

"s-sorry," catherine apologized

"i'm fine, but are you?" he questioned

"im fine," she answered and began walking away from the stranger

swiftly, he grabbed her wrist and pulled her back.

"do i know you?"

catherine rubbed her puffy eyes, "no i don- johnny?"
