"everliegh! you have to make the car invisible!" georgia cried out

the van swerved to the right and sent the girls twisting in their seats. at this particular moment, the 7 of them were very grateful for their seatbelts, but it seemed like it wouldn't hold them for much longer.

"i'm trying but it's going to take some time," everliegh groaned

her hands were placed firmly on the inner doors of the van. they could tell she was concentrating hard by the look on her face. she was panting heavily and sweat beads were piling on her forehead.

the van was huge and it was taking up all her energy to turn invisible. turning things transparent, that weren't herself, was hard for everliegh. it didn't help that she had a time limit or that it felt like they were on a rollercoaster ride either.

"i don't know how much longer i can dodge the bullets!" georgia complained

she made a sharp left turn and almost crashed into an innocent bystander. before georgia could apologize, the women ran. soon the police cars tailed them again.

juniper interjected, "i'll phase the car to make time for everliegh."

the girls in the back acted fast. from the back seat, juniper positioned one hand on the car and intertwined her other with kamry's hand. kamry held tate's hand, who held celena's. once they were all holding hands, juniper was focused hard on phasing.

just on time, a bullet headed straight for the car but passed right through them. juniper wailed. the job was also draining her energy. the police sirens were getting louder as they closed in on the girls.

catherine's head spun as she racked her brain for ideas. the only thing she could think of was to teleport all of them out of here but she could only take two people at most, and she wouldn't be able to return to the car if it was still moving.

"everliegh!" georgia screamed

everliegh snapped her eyes shut and began pouring what's left of her energy into the car. slowly, the car began to disappear. first the wheels, then then the whole van was swallowed by her powers.

everliegh let out a breathy chuckle. tate nervously laughed. but just as they thought the situation was over, a police car turned in their direction. kamry looked out the window and gasped.

"guys! the car is leaving behind mud prints!" she panicked

celena frustratedly sighed, "we have to catch them off guard. the mud will be off the tires soon. without harming them, freeze the road kamry."

kamry held up a thumbs up at celena's order. she rolled down the window, stuck her hand out, and squinted her eyes. rapidly, frost and ice began piling on the road, creating a roadblock.

the police car stopped and a loud honk came from it.

"yes!" tate exclaimed

"let's not get too happy with ourselves. we should keep our guard up. but for now, we need to stop somewhere," georgia declared

the girls had traveled from georgia to new york through catherine's teleportation, tate's flight, and kamry's speed in 3 days total. and in those three days, a reported amount of 3,000 humans were turned into hunters.

the world was becoming more dangerous for them by the second. time was of the essence. they needed to make a move quickly, but all the girls were worn out. their supply of food and water was running low, because they had to leave things behind for the girls to travel quicker.

they were down to their last pair of clean clothes now, and the last time they showered was yesterday. georgia forced them to bathe in the lake though they complained. though the didn't have soap, the 7 of them felt much cleaner.

the abandoned hospital was an estimated 5 miles from their current location. while some were determined to leave, others were wasting time.

"guys, we can't stay here forever. we have to leave now if we want to make it by downfall," tate reasoned

catherine threw her hands up, "i'm sorry but i can't. i'm out!"

"what do you mean you're out? we made it all the way here!" kamry rebuked

"i just can't! don't y'all see that there is no succeeding? we're going to die!" catherine argued

"so? we have to save the humans!" kamry growled

"that's not our job! we aren't some superheroes humans count on! they hate us!" she bellowed

catherine and kamry silenced.

suddenly kamry thought back to the day they left. garret had come to her and told her about his troubles and had thought the same thing as catherine. why was she so determined now?

catherine bit her lip to keep her tears from spilling. she hated that fact that she was thinking about chris at this moment.

"why?! tell me! why do we have to help them when they hurt us," she sobbed

catherine dropped to her knees. she was embarrassed. here she was, crying in front of her friends. what had become of her? after everything georgia had told her, she was still stuck in the past.

"no matter what we do, good or bad, they will hate us. why? why help them?" she cried

at first, catherine agreed because she thought that maybe chris would see her. he would see her good deeds and ask her to come back to him. he would loved her again, but that was all a fantasy.

"catherine, we're not doing this to get praise from humans. whether they hate us or not, we can't let this happen. maybe it's because we were made to protect them, that i have the need to save them, but don't think so lowly of them. they might be absurd but not stupid. they will see our actions. and if that still doesn't help you, think of it this way. instead of saving the humans, we are saving ourselves. we're stopping the hunter kind from growing it's population," celena finished

catherine stared in awe at celena. never in a million years would she expect celena giving her a pep talk. but what stuck out to catherine were her words. they were true.

catherine wiped her tears, "for specialists,"

"for specialists," the girls echoed
