Ashelyonna Lost Her Parents and Was Devastated
She stayed home alone, not by force, but by choice. Many nights, she lay in her parents' bed, crying herself to sleep. She dodged calls from Jessica, Stefan, and even her own family. Some offered to take her in, but she refused.
The funeral for her parents was planned within two weeks, and she didn't want to participate. She knew what her family was truly after, and she wasn't going to let them have it. Stefan tried communicating with Ashelyonna telepathically, but she blocked him out as she shut down, wanting to avoid the tug on her heart, the burden, the pain.
The house was empty, and she sulked in it alone.
Funeral for Ashelyonna's Parents
Ashelyonna's POV
I pulled up my stockings and strapped on my black heels. I smoothed the creases on the dress I decided to wear and let my hair down. Jessica was outside waiting for me along with her mom, and I closed the door behind me.
"Hey, Ash," Jessica smiled weakly and held my hand.
"How are you?" her mom asked, and I swallowed the lump in my throat.
"It's okay, you don't have to speak. I understand," her mom told me.
We arrived at the church my grandparents had decided to bury my parents in. It wasn't a full house, but everyone from my community was there. Families on both sides, too. My uncles welcomed me with open arms, as did the rest of my family. I never fancied my mom's sisters; they were always uptight, especially since they were married to big shots who owned companies and had shares and investments in high-class restaurants and stores.
The ceremony was about to begin when my heart skipped a beat upon seeing Stefan enter the church and sit in the back. My fragile state hardened, knowing my strength was there to support me.
Funeral Ended
Everyone left except for Jessica and her mom. I asked them to give me a moment alone with my deceased parents, and they did.
"Hey, Mom. Dad," I whispered, sitting between them on the ground. I felt a tear slip and immediately curled into a small space. My tears flowed harder as the dam inside me broke.
"You can't leave me here, all alone," I cried, slamming my hand on the ground. "You can't. I haven't graduated from school, nor driven my first car. Not even my first child. You can't. It's not fair!" I yelled, my sobs growing louder.
Jessica came by my side and hugged me tightly. I wanted to fight back, but I didn't have the energy. I relaxed into her arms as my sobs turned into sniffles. We sat there by the graves for a while, the quiet and peaceful surroundings providing a small comfort.
Jessica's mom approached us, carrying a big bag filled with items, and handed Jessica the car keys.
"You need comfort, so you can stay with Ash until whenever," she said. Jessica thanked her mom and watched as she left with their neighbors.
About five minutes later, I decided it was time to go home. Jess and I walked to her car, placing the bag in the trunk and slamming it shut.
"I'll see you when you get home, okay?" Jessica said, raising an eyebrow.
"What do you mean?" I asked, feeling a familiar touch on my shoulders.
Turning to face the culprit, it was Stefan, and I felt my heart warm. I immediately hugged him, and he hugged me back.
"You better take care of her," Jessica said seriously to Stefan before getting into the car.
"How are you?" Stefan asked, kissing my hairline.
"Stefan, this is inappropriate. You're still my teacher, and that's what people know you as," I told him, stepping back.
"We need to talk," he said, his tone serious. I didn't argue, wanting him to do me a favor.
I followed him to his car, and like a gentleman, he opened the door for me, allowing me to get in. We left the church in complete silence. I decided to try communicating with him telepathically.
Stefan?
I opened my mind to his, and he answered the same way.
Yes, little one.
"It actually worked? I thought this only worked when you did it," I replied.
He chuckled, parking the car.
Stefan's House
Stefan opened the door, and I walked in, getting used to the place and clumsily dropping my shoes at the door. My thoughts were running wild, and the only thing I could think about was his lips. I wanted him. I wanted the attention. I wanted the distraction.
I walked into the living room and turned to face him. "What did you want to talk about?" I asked.
"It's about your parents," he said, and my mood immediately darkened.
I rolled my eyes, folding my arms above my chest. "They were killed, Ash," he said cautiously.
"Yeah, I know. In a car accident," I replied, starting to pace.
"No, they were murdered," he stated firmly.
I stopped, looking at him. "What do you mean, murdered?" I asked.
"Their brakes didn't fail. It involved magic. Maybe someone was trying to send a message?" he whispered.
I looked at him, biting my lower lip. I wasn't going to let this traumatize me. I felt the anger building up inside me, mixed with grief, pain, and loss. I knew what I wanted Stefan to do.
"Make me forget," I turned to him, pleading.
"What?" he replied, taken aback.
"You're a heretic. So chant a spell or compel me, please. Just make me forget," I begged, tears welling in my eyes.
Stefan stared at me, holding my cheek as he tried to talk me out of it, but I was determined. Nothing would change my mind.
"Do it, Stefan. Please," I implored.
With that, my memories were gone, leaving a void. It was low, dark, but worth it.
