Jessica's pov

"Someone's moody," I remarked as I reversed out of the driveway. Glancing behind me, I noticed my mother's grimoire in the back seat next to Ash's bag.

Shit!

I thought as I quickly stretched over and shoved the book under the car seat Ash was sitting in.

Sighing in relief, I glanced at Ash, who was staring out the window, lost in thought.

"Wanna talk about it?" I asked gently.

"Nah, I just..." Ash paused, biting her lip lightly.

"It's just..." she tried again, struggling with her words.

"I'm just tired," she finally admitted, resting her head back on the seat.

"Ooh, seems like Stefan worked you out, didn't he?" I teased, giving her a playful look.

"Ha, you wish," she shot back, and we both burst into laughter.

The radio was on, and a rap song took over the station.

Cardi B.

"Oh my God, this is my song!" I laughed, turning up the volume as "Money" by Cardi B played. We both started rapping the first verse, letting the music lighten the mood.

Ashelyonna's Pov

Jessica dropped me off at home around 7 PM.

As expected, both my parents were home. I waltzed right in.

"Mom, Dad. I'm home. Feeling exhausted, going to bed," I yelled as I jogged upstairs.

Once in my room, I locked the door and began stripping out of my clothes. I untangled my braided hair, caught the curly mess into a high bun, and laid on my bed in my underwear.

My mind felt empty, and I couldn't pinpoint why.

Everything Stefan had told me today seemed like a blur, as if from a surreal dream.

Deciding to wash away the confusion and get an early start on the night, I headed for the shower.

Jessica's POV

"Mom, are you sure I can't tell Ash? She's like family to us," I pleaded with my mom for the last time.

"No, Jessica. It's bad enough that your powers are getting out of control. Now you want to put Ashelyonna in danger? Oh, I don't think so, missy." My mom replied as she took the grimoire from me and placed it on the coffee table.

"It's best t-"

"To keep my powers hidden. Yes, I know, Mother," I finished her statement and rolled my eyes.

Leaving my mom in the living room as she went over some complicated spells, I headed up to my room and closed the door behind me.

"Ughhhhhhhh!" I screamed into a pillow and tossed it aside when I was done.

"I can control my powers," I mocked my mom for something she had said earlier.

Lifting my head from my bed, I looked over at the pillow on the floor and smirked.

"És tu cuz vu telí-bán," I whispered a simple levitation spell. Within seconds, the pillow floated in mid-air as I concentrated, guiding the steady rhythm of the pillow back onto my bed.

"See," I whispered, grabbing the pillow and lying down on it.
