Ashelyonna's POV

Stefan had just left, and I felt a mix of emotions swirling inside me. Don't get me wrong—I enjoyed my own company. But a part of me yearned for him, for the chance to learn more about his world. He was a vampire, after all. Just imagine the vast knowledge he possessed and what he could teach me. The thought sent a thrill through me, igniting a longing that left me both excited and restless.

I decided I couldn't mope around all day, so I got creative and set out to entertain myself.

I spent the day exploring the house, nosing around in rooms that were off-limits. The adrenaline rush was enough to make me hyperventilate, but I was determined to uncover the secrets hidden within these walls.

As I wandered through the corridors, I stumbled upon the basement. When I opened the door, I was greeted by a spacious room filled with shelves lined with strange herbs, candles in various shapes and sizes, and odd books with dusty covers. Glass jars containing mysterious contents were scattered throughout, each one more intriguing than the last.

The basement was surprisingly clean, but an unsettling chill crept over me as I took in the surroundings. There were no windows down here, and the dim lighting added to the eerie atmosphere. I could feel my heart rate quickening, and I decided I had had enough of this creepy feeling. My aim was to get out, and I started making my way back toward the stairs.

I was just on the second step when I heard it—a voice, low and whispering. My heart skipped a beat as I froze, straining to hear. The words sounded familiar, and I realized they were my grandma's name: Celeste.

I glanced around, trying to locate the source of the voice. The room was still, but my eyes were drawn to a faint glow emanating from a closed book on one of the shelves. It pulsed gently, almost as if it were alive. My curiosity piqued, I took a cautious step closer, heart racing with a mix of fear and intrigue.

"Celeste..." The whisper repeated, echoing in the silence. I felt a strange pull toward the book, as if it were calling me. I reached out tentatively, my fingers hovering above the cover, torn between the urge to uncover whatever secrets it held and the instinct to run back upstairs.

Taking a deep breath, I finally let my curiosity win. I opened the book slowly, and as I did, the glow intensified, illuminating the room with a warm light. The pages were filled with ancient symbols and elegant script that I couldn't quite decipher, but I felt an undeniable connection to them, as if they were meant for me.

"Celeste," I whispered, echoing the name I had heard. The air around me seemed to hum with energy, and I could feel the weight of something significant resting within the pages. I was on the brink of discovering something extraordinary, and I couldn't help but feel that this was just the beginning of a much larger adventure.

Stefan's POV

I was in the fifth period of the day, and I couldn't shake the longing for Ashelyonna's scent. I had tried to check on her during lunch, but knowing her, she was probably buried in a book or exploring the house again.

I had always adored her curiosity and outspoken nature, but sometimes I wished she'd just obey a simple request.

My thoughts were interrupted when Kendrick walked into my French class late, a smirk plastered across his face. Annoyed, I decided to have a little fun at his expense. If he thought he was ready for the responsibilities of running a pack, I'd give him a taste of what that really meant.

Kendrick plopped down in his seat, propping his feet up on the desk and twirling a toothpick between his lips like he owned the place.

I chanted a simple spell, one that would tease his mind. Almost immediately, I watched as he sat up straight, tugging at his shirt collar, clearly uncomfortable. He wiped the sweat from his forehead with the back of his hand, looking increasingly tormented.

I whispered another spell, deliberately depriving him of his body fluids. It was a lighthearted spell, but I found it amusing to see him squirm in his seat. He glanced around, clearly wanting to escape the classroom.

Acting concerned, I leaned forward, faking sincerity. "Are you okay, Kendrick?" I asked, searching his face for a reaction.

His eyes narrowed as he caught onto my deceit. "Yeah, I'm fine," he replied, though his voice was strained, and I could see the sweat starting to bead on his brow again.

"Really?" I pressed, pretending to be worried. "You don't look so good."

He shifted uncomfortably, adjusting his collar again. "I just... I think I need some air," he said, trying to sound casual but failing miserably.

I stifled a grin as I watched him squirm. "You should go then. Don't want to pass out in class," I encouraged, gesturing toward the door.

He shot me a glare, but the desperation in his eyes was undeniable. "Yeah, right. I'll be fine," he muttered, but he couldn't hide the urgency in his tone.

As he stood up and quickly made his way to the door, I couldn't help but chuckle under my breath. Watching him flounder like that was more entertaining than I had anticipated.

The moment he left the room, I settled back into my seat, a satisfied smile creeping onto my face. But even as I reveled in my small victory, my thoughts drifted back to Ashelyonna. I hoped she was okay, exploring and uncovering whatever secrets lay in the house. The thought of her learning more about my world filled me with both excitement and concern.
