As a usual teenager I was a bit rebellious as far as religion was concerned. About this time my grandmother had joined a small Pentecostal congregation. My grandmother had always had a deep belief in the power of the Holy Ghost and had been known to be overcome by the spirit and speak in tongues etc. When I was about 15 or so I was baptized into this church without my parents' consent or knowledge.
But as teenagers go, I soon fell away to peer pressure and the foibles of youth. About a year or so later I began searching again for God and became involved in mystic eastern religion and studied with a small group of adults for several months. Looking back at these experiences I learned much about the deceptions of the adversary.
During this time, I was living with my brother as my parents had moved because of my Dad's job, but I remained behind to finish High School. I graduated half way through my senior year. I decided to join the Air Force. During my physical and initial processing for my enlistment, I was sexually assaulted by one of the leaders in the mystic cult in which I was involved. This was very traumatic to me as a teenager still trying to figure out who I was and what I was to become. I grappled with this issue asking myself if I were gay or straight, or how I should proceed in my life. A month after I graduated High School I was at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas for basic training in the United Stated Air Force.
