In a few short weeks I was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Easter Sunday of 1979. I was still young and naive and soon fell into weaknesses of youth and fell away from the Church for several months. I was transferred to my first duty station at Sembach Air Base in Germany. After a few months of inactivity, I decided to repent and I began reading the scriptures again and praying. I remember one day, praying to return to church and a brother from the Church showed up at my dorm room door and took me to church.
After several months, I met with the Bishop and eventually was advanced to the office of Elder and the Bishop challenged me never to go inactive again. I continued in activity and participated in several single adult conferences in Berchtesgaden Germany, they solidified my testimony of the church. My two-year tour to Germany was coming to a close, and I was excited to rotate back to the United States.
