Namjoon's POV
I knew I shouldn't have agreed to do this. This is such a bad idea. I look so stupid in this apron, but at least I'm stood behind the counter so that covers the apron. I thought that I will get to spend more time with Jin if I cover Mark's shift, but no! Jin won't let me anywhere near the kitchen because he doesn't want a repeat of last time. He won't let me take people's orders to them because he doesn't want me to trip and spill them on someone. So, the only job left for me is to stand behind this stupid counter, greet the customers nicely and take their orders. Maybe Jin forgot a slight detail - I don't know how to speak to people nicely, like at all! I should have just spoken to Mrs Lee and asked her to give Mark the day off but then Jin would have out that I control his work environment and that would have got me busted so now I'm stuck with no way out. So I'm just gonna stand here and pray that no customers show up today.
About five minutes into my shift I started to get hopeful that maybe no one will show up after all. Yes, this was great. I could finally breathe. Just as I was about to pull out a stool and sit down I heard a bell chime. Fucking Amazing, its an old lady. Not trying to be ageist or anything but I'm really not popular amongst people from her age group.
"Uhh... Welcome! Uhh.. what do you want?" I tried to ask her but she threw me a glare. See what I mean? I even said Welcome but this woman is still ungrateful about it.
"Is that the way you speak to your elders?" She questioned me in a stern tone. Is this woman dumb or something? There are different ways to speak to people older than you? What a joke!
"Look, you're kinda wasting my time here. Can you just tell me what you want so I can get it for you and then you can leave, like now." I tried to ask her again but this time she looked furious.
"I want to speak to your manager! What kind of employs has she started to hire? You ill mannered boy! You have no decency. I feel sorry for your parents. I will complain about you." As she continued her rant, it took me all of my will power to not push her out, but her annoying voice just made me snap.
"Listen here woman, I feel sorry for your husband too since he has to live with you. Oh wait, You probably don't have one coz who would have wanted to marry you. Tell me this, are you cranky because you're alone or are you alone because you're cranky. And you can go complain to the president about me. I really don't care-"
"Namjoon!"
I turned my head to see Jin with his mouth wide open and eyes almost popping out of his head. He completely ignored my existence and rushed over to the lady bowing and apologizing.
"Ma'am, I'm so sorry. He's just covering a shift today, He'll never repeat this mistake. Please understand he's never worked before." Jin stopped midway to give my a slap on the head.
"Ouch! what was that for?" I began to complain but he physically pushed me down until I was bowing 90 degrees in front of this lady and I swear I heard my back crack. After getting back up I was immediately pushed back as Jin started to take this lady's order, and guess what he didn't even charge her! So this lady roasted the shit out of me and got her order for free. I might as well go kill myself now. I can't believe that Jin would pick an old lady over me. As soon as that lady left Jin came over to me and smacked my arm.
"That is not how you speak to customers!" He shouted. I opened my mouth to speak in my defence but he cut me off. "I don't want to hear it. You saw how I took her order, that's how you deal with customers. Now get to work and do it properly." I pouted as Jin finished his rant and went back to the kitchen. I don't believe this. I was the one being attacked when I was the victim.
After taking a few more orders I started to get the hang of this slightly. I was still awkward but I developed a technique. Minimum words and smile. It seemed to work pretty well and I found myself doing okay. I heard the bell chime again and I whipped my head over with a smile to see a little boy holding his mother's hand. No, please, I do not have enough energy for this.
The boy looked about the age I was when my mother left me. He looked around and his eyes stopped on a cheesecake slice.
"Mommy can I get this?" He questioned.
"Of course sweetie, my little prince can have everything he wants." Funny, that is exactly how my mother used to speak to me. The boy was now smiling and I saw dimples appear on his cheeks too.
Fuck!
"Excuse me, Can I have one slice of the blueberry cheesecake and one regular milk tea." The lady placed her order with a smile. Swallowing the lump in my throat I nodded as I wrote down her order with shaky hands. The entire time she was there my eyes were glued to her and her son, and they both reminded me so much of myself. I guess I made the lady uncomfortable because she was quick to leave. I was glad about that because had they stayed here a little longer I might have burst into tears.
"Joonie." Jin's voice brought out of my thoughts.
"Oh, hi Jin." I smiled at him, gotta always look nice in front of my wife.
"I just came to check up on you, you're doing great." He gave me thumbs up before walking back into the kitchen. I sighed as I watched my love leave my sight. I'm still stuck with this job for another 20 minutes. That's not that long though. I'll be fine. I got my fake smile on when I heard the door open again, ready to take the next order.
"Hi, what can I get you?" I asked the girl in front of me. She leaned her chest down on the counter pushing it out whilst smirking.
"You." She said with a wink and I honestly wanted to punch her so bad and I would have done just that but I couldn't let Jin get mad at me for the second time today.
"I'm sorry but I'm not on the menu." I told her, making it obvious in my voice that I was pissed, but she just laughed and the sound made me want to strangle her.
"I can fix that." She said as her hand found its way on top of mine. I slapped it off. This was it, I'm going to kill this bitch-
"You! Leave now."
I turned around to see Jin, much more angry than me, even the girl looked shocked.
"We do not tolerate any sort of sexual harassment towards our employees, so leave before I file a report to the police." Jin commanded. The girl looked scared and quickly left. Wow, I'm amazed at my Jinnie, who quickly threw his apron off, and told me, "Lets go. Our shift has ended."
Was Jin jealous?
