dear bear,
there are times where i remember how privileged i am for having the life i have now. i have the perfect life with you and your step mother jiwoo. what more could i ask for?
i think we necessarily realize how privileged we are as human beings. we have a roof over our head, a family, food, and clothes.
we only focus on the smaller aspects in life. things that others have and we don't.
so what if you can't afford family vacations or expensive clothing trends that others follow?
you have all the basic necessities that a human needs in order to thrive.
you don't really realize that privilege till you escape from this world to another.
when i went on a volunteer trip to a small town in another country, i realized that i had SO much. more than i really needed if i had to be frankly honest.
there's people all over the world who don't even have the basic human right of clean filtered water.
there's people drinking from water with lead because they have no filters.
we have so much and once you realize that privilege, you open your eyes to so many opportunities. there's so many ways in which you can help.
sure, you can't become an overnight millionaire but you can easily help out by starting from your community and making your way up. you can easily save money from allowance to donate to a foundation like "charity: water".
the possibilities are endless.
don't be like that person that sees videos like that and say, "i like charity work, people should give more," and then do nothing. don't be that person.
see. read. understand. give.
love,
kim taehyung
