PRESENT DAY...
Sapphire St. Clair's POV
After my unexpected meeting with Granddad at my younger sister's wedding reception about his plan to open a new branch of his company in Greece. He gave me two weeks' notice to properly distribute my work here in the flagship store with the highly efficient employees in my team.
I still don't know what to expect from this. Truth to be told, I was beyond happy that Daniel put so much trust in me to oversee the new branch of St. Clair Diamonds abroad but at the same time, I couldn't shake off the uneasiness because there was a high chance that I might see him more often than I wanted since this was his home turf.
I shifted my position inside the plane. On the two occasions that I saw him again after our divorce, I have to admit that it left me shaken slightly. Our first meeting again happened at the charity ball hosted by my grandfather and the second one was on my grandfather's estate in Hamptons. On both occasions, I was left unprepared for our encounter.
When the plane safely landed on the tarmac I immediately stood from my seat and got my handbag. My heart was pounding in my chest as I slowly made my exit on the plane. This was the first time I would be back in Greece since my divorce. I vowed that I would never come back to this place it holds so many memories that I'd rather forget.
I slowly descended from the iron steps of the airplane with my high heels. The scorching sun and warm breeze greeted me. I think I was a little unprepared for the Greek weather since it was freezing back in New York when I left just like my heart.
When I was through with the immigration I saw a man with my name written on the placard he was holding. I approached him with a friendly smile on my face. "Hi, you're waiting for me?"
"Miss Sapphire St. Clair?" He inquired, when I nodded I smiled brightly in my direction. "I'm Damian and I work for the St. Clair Diamonds I was instructed that I will be your driver during your stay here. Welcome to Greece, ma'am."
I smiled kindly. "Thank you."
"This way, please." He led me to the black car waiting for us at the side of the airport terminal. I felt a sigh of relief when the cool interior car it seem that my outfit was not advisable for this kind of weather. Thankfully, I packed the right kind of clothes for this kind of weather.
"I'm sure you are tired from your long trip, ma'am. But once you arrive in your apartment you will instantly forget your jetlag because of the picturesque scenery from your bedroom window it has the best spot overlooking the ocean outside."
"Actually," I started, looking at the busy streets outside my car window. "I'd like to see the new branch of St. Clair Diamonds if that's okay? I need to examine the place if I will have a recommendation to my grandfather."
"Certainly, Miss," Damien replied, glancing at me in his rearview mirror with a smile on his face. "So the rumors are correct then."
I sat straight from my seat as I stared back at him. "What rumors?"
A kind smile showed in his eyes. "The new boss is hardworking."
"Oh..." I exhaled the breath I didn't know I was holding. For a moment I thought he meant...of course, people here had probably forgotten that one of the most eligible bachelors of Greece had once been married to an American heiress. It was only a whirlwind romance that ended in heartbreak.
"I hope you don't me asking, ma'am." Damien started, looking sheepishly in my direction for a moment. "Is this your first time in Greece? It seems that you aren't prepared for the warmer weather of this country."
