I wake up to the sensation of the truck stopping. Lacey nudges me "Hey girl! We're filling up and grabbing a bite to eat. Come inside with me." I pull myself up into Josh's arms. He whispers "Morning baby." To my surprise we've driven a little more than 4 hours. I climb out and my feet hit the black top. I run my fingers through my hair and smudge away any lingering makeup. We enter a gas station and grab more energy drinks, Gatorade, and pre-made sandwiches. We pay at the register and walk back outside. Lacey explains that we should pee here if needed so I reluctantly go the bathroom and try not to touch anything.
I come out with Lacey and Josh is now in the front seat. Matt has already passed out in the back. Lacey starts laughing "Maybe we shouldn't have stayed up so late last night." I nudge her and laugh. We climb into the truck and I am astonished by how much space there is. Though I love Josh's mustang, I like the room to stretch.
We look at the GPS and start driving. Within 15 minutes, Lacey is also passed out sprawled over Matt. I hear light snoring from Matt "I hope I have never snored in front of you" I ask. "We'll I at least I haven't" he responds. I slug his arm and he pulls my hand back into is. We drive on and make light conversation discussing if James's family loves or hates Jess yet. A few hours pass us by as we continue talking and listening to the radio. Josh makes a few serious jokes about us moving in together next semester to which I avoid.
He looks down and sees we need gas soon so at the next exit we pull off and start pumping. Matt and Lacey wake up as we finish. Lacey and I run to the bathroom and come right back. Matt runs into the gas station and buys a few more drinks. "We're about 3 hours away" Lacey says. She stretches touching her feet "You guys are going to love it!" "Yeah, it's great... Lacey's family lives on a lake and we can go boating. They also have jet skis." Josh's ears perk up and I know my man is excited now. "Can't wait" I chirp.
Lacey and Matt jump in the front seat now. Since we're all wide awake now Lacey tells us how she's the only child and how her parents love when she brings friends home. I stare out the window and marvel at how beautiful the area is. Green trees, grass everywhere, and you can literally taste the humidity on your tongue....it reminded so much of Pennsylvania.
The GPS indicates that were here and we pull up to a large metal gate. Matt pushes a button the panel and the gate opens. Lacey did not do her house justice. Josh and I are in awe of how huge this place is. It's an enormous two story colonial style mansion with a wraparound porch. The grass is perfectly cut, flowers and trees are placed everywhere, and a long gravel driveway up to the house. There's also a huge white workshop with a boat and jet skis sticking out.
I casually get out of the truck and stand next to Lacey. Her parents must have seen us because they're racing down the steps to their beloved daughter. She must be the apple of their eye considering their excitement. What's that like...to be so loved so much that no matter what you did they would always love you. I'm interrupted in my thoughts as Josh laces his fingers in mine and I remember I already was.
