"Watch your step babe" he said. My eyes were covered with his hands and I couldn't tell where I was going. It smelled like banana bread but I knew he didn't bake. "Ready" he shouts and I open my eyes to us standing in a small apartment. It was simple and furnished with cozy items. A red head in her early 50s stood before us..."look around" she smirked. I walked through the apartment and thought how it was perfect. A one bedroom, one bathroom apartment perfect for us I hoped? Plenty of closet space, bathroom counter space for all my crap, and light pulled in from the few windows throughout. I entered the bedroom and it hit me...this was seriously perfect.
Josh came up behind me and wrapped his arms around my waist. "So what do you think?" I turn and with tears in my eyes I blurt "it's perfect...but I don't know if we can afford it...how long is the lease?" "Babe, I'm glad you like it because I already signed the lease for 5 months...August through December.... Rent is already paid for the first three months and all you have to do is sign the lease as well." I jump out of his hands in awe "What...How did you....What?!" I yell in excitement.
"I told you I saved a lot of money before school started. Either I paid the dorms for 3 months or I pay this apartment for 5." It was crazy to me how the dorms were more expensive...such a rip off. "You paid the first three months and have money for the last two?" I keep screaming. "Babe, yes" trying to calm me down. I walk past him out into the hallway and into the kitchen where the red head is still standing. With paperwork on the counter I politely ask "Where do I sign?" She's thrilled at my smile and Josh is beaming. I sign away and she hands me the keys. "I understand that the first three months has been paid. Just don't forget to pay the rest on the first of each month or you can pay the rest ahead. As you can tell it's completely furnished but I definitely recommend you guys to get new things for the kitchen...they're a little old. Otherwise, you can guys can move in as early as two weeks." She shuts the door behind her and I squeal with excitement.
I jump into his arms and I can't believe that were doing this. "I haven't even told you the other best part." "What" I squeal. "Matt and Lacey are moving in together as well. They're in the same building" he proclaims. "That's awesome!" "Yeah... Matt and I were talking about it. He and I shopped for places the last few days and thought it was perfect considering its 10 minutes from campus and furnished. But Lacey doesn't know yet. He's telling her tonight."
I stood back from him and just stared. I couldn't believe that we found each other and agreed to live together. I know his parents would be fine but mine would lose their shit. But then again, I was 18 and was paying my own way. However, I knew they would find out sooner or later.
