The two terriers instantly broke away from the romantic kiss when they realized that their cover had just been blown. Gidget just stood there, staring at them in utter silence. On the inside, she could feel her heart breaking, a web of cracks forming along the surface. A second ago, she had felt like the happiest canine in the world. Now the good feeling had left her. His tail tucked in between his legs, Max stuttered, "Gidget... this... this isn't what it looks like... I swear... it's not..." However, the fluffy white Pomeranian wasn't listening as she backed away slowly.

"Gidget, please... I'm sorry..." Max apologized, taking a step towards Gidget. She took one back. Just then, the female terrier got up on her paws and trotted over to Max's side. Sitting down beside him, she nuzzled his cheek lovingly. Seeing how delighted Max looked and hearing his tail thump against the floor was enough to drive Gidget over the edge. Her sky blue eyes brimming with tears, she spun around and raced out of the apartment, leaving behind the scene that had broken her fragile heart.
